TODAY’S PROGRAM AT OUR LAST MEETING Anna McGuire-Johndrow, “Life in Cuba” Club Assembly – Committee Reports

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:

“If you do not think about your future, you cannot have one.”

John Galsworthy

NEWS & EVENTS Today, we will hear from Anna McGuire-Johndrow, a member of the Austin Centennial club. Anna's program is entitled, "Memories of the

Cuban Revolution or How I Met Fidel Castro and Got Into Advertising." Anna will update us on "life in Cuba" drawing upon her knowledge of

the Cuban Revolution and how it still impacts life there. Anna's career in advertising spanned three decades in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Her family moved to Cuba during the Cuban Revolution where she met

Castro. Her story of pre-Castro Cuba helps put the island nation's history into perspective.

Global Grants – Policy Changes Clubs and districts can now use global grants to build low-cost

shelters and simple schools, under a recent policy change that will be in effect through 2019. The construction must be part of a

comprehensive project related to an area of focus. (Projects that involve construction alone are still not eligible for global grants.)

Please note that these structures are limited. Low-cost shelters are intended to provide housing for the destitute or homeless. Simple

schools provide very modest schools in areas that previously had none; they aren’t intended to enhance existing schools. To get started, see the low-cost shelters and simple schools guidelines and

application appendix available on the District website..
