By: Marlys Winkels, Program Director Spring is sprung and the Easter sunrise was as beautiful as any I’ve seen in many a year! We can put this long winter into the history books and move on to better things! I will be preaching to myself here but we all need to get out and start walking and getting more exercise. Did you know that just walking 15 minutes a day can improve your health? They say if you stick with something for 3 weeks it will soon become a habit so I send out a challenge to myself and other seniors in our community to get out in the fresh air and walk your way to better health! I am attending Tai-Chi training next week and am looking forward to offering a stretching exercise program in the near future. Look for updates and call PARTNERS for more information about this program. Upcoming Events: Mondays: Seniors meet at the Community Center. Lunch is $5. Contact Marge Thorpe for more info. Tuesdays: May 13th- Coffee-time at Westfall apts.-10 a.m. May 20th- Board Meeting- 7 p.m. Wednesdays: 14th & 21st- Foot clinic. $10 fee. Call 867-1234 for an appt. Fridays: 16th- Wi-fit Bowling at PARTNERS- 10 a.m. By: Chelsie Lankow and Skylar Buckingham On April 10 and 11, students performed their production of “Princess Whatsername.” In this musical, a girl wakes up and realizes she can’t remember who she is and where she comes from. She wanders the woods to search for clues, and runs into many fairytale characters, such as Cinderella, Rapunzel, and Snow White. Each character helps her figure out that she is Aislin, Princess of the South. Trevor Hone is coaching track for his third year with Matt Balken and Staci Wigdahl as his assistant coaches. “It was fun to finally get out there and have our first meet,” said Noah Brenden, co-captain of the track team. Please join us for treats, music and fun! If you have any questions about it please call Ms. Christensen 218 867- 2116. “It’s going to be a fantastic time, and we are really looking forward to it,” commented Ms. Christensen. Senior Appreciation Tea Set For May 14 Donkey Basketball Draws A Crowd For one wild night the Rothsay school gymnasium was filled with hooves, fur, and athletes that walked on four legs instead of two. The event was a Donkey Basketball fundraiser held the evening of Tuesday, April 22. Residents attempted to ride and guide the donkeys across the gym floor and to the basket in hopes of scoring points for their team. Of course, the animals often had other ideas, resulting in fun for the whole crowd. “It was a huge success,” said Brandie Hanson, one of the event organizers. “We plan to do it again in the future.” The Donkey Basketball event was put on to support the upcoming Prairie Showing his Minnesota State Patrol pride, Sergeant Jesse Grabow takes a gravity defying shot from the side of his donkey during the festivities on April 22. This shot was taken before Grabow was drop- kicked by the cantankerous beast. Days festival held each summer to celebrate the city of Rothsay. The annual weekend event features a variety of events for the whole family, including a parade, softball tournament, food vendors, kids inflatable games, antique car shows and more. “We want to thank everyone for coming out to support the event, and also for all the sponsors that helped out,” Hanson added. The unusual athletic event was put on by Dairyland Donkey Basketball, based out of Wisconsin. In addition to Donkey Basketball, the company offers Donkey Baseball and “Celebrity” Donkey Races across the Midwest from Minnesota down to Texas. Up, up and away! Donkey basketball participant Matt Larson took to the skies when he completed a “donkey dunk” from the back of his animal. His athletic feat was one of many shots that delighted the cheering Rothsay gymnasium spectators at the fundraising event for the annual Prairie Days festival.

On April 10 and 11, students performed their production of “Princess Whatsername.”

In this musical, a girl wakes up and realizes she can’t remember who she is and where she comes from. She wanders the woods to search for clues, and runs into many fairytale characters, such as Cinderella, Rapunzel, and Snow White. Each character helps her figure out that she is Aislin, Princess of the South.

Donkey Basketball Draws A CrowdFor one wild night the Rothsay school gymnasium was filled with

hooves, fur, and athletes that walked on four legs instead of two. The event was a Donkey Basketball fundraiser held the evening of Tuesday, April 22.

Residents attempted to ride and guide the donkeys across the gym floor and to the basket in hopes of scoring points for their team. Of course, the animals often had other ideas, resulting in fun for the whole crowd.

“It was a huge success,” said Brandie Hanson, one of the event organizers. “We plan to do it again in the future.”
