FOLDING

An architectural portfolio, a body of work to represent me, a student for 4 years. Throughout this portfolio, you will experience the projects that display my interests and toolset. As a student of Aalborg University which primarily focuses on project based learning and group assignment the five first works shown are made in groups and the rest is individual projects carried out on my own time. The projects are presented in the order of largest assignments first, smallest last.

All images and vizualizations are

made by me except for the plan

in the hatlehol project, the plan

and section in subcity and the

plans in the theater project.

Models are collaborating group

efforts.

HATLEHOL

COMMUNITY

AND CHURCH,

SPACE FOR

THE PEOPLE

Hatlehol in the perish of Ålsund in Norway wants a church to connect the community and people of Hatlehol. The concept of religeon is in a constant change and the expression of churches change equally so. The continuous decrease of church goers raises the question what is the purpose of a church today?.Respecting the suroundings is a big part of nordic architecture. A subtle presence in conjunction with nature becomes the theme when surounded by mountain and forest. The church is built below tree height and only in one point does it errect as a subtle crown among the other trees.Approaching the church

one is lead on a journey of contemplation by an elevated path through a dense forest, before arriving at the first notion of the social theme of the building. The patio presents two entrancesthat frame an exterior gathering place. A long and narrow building is placed on the highest point of the site. One to the west and one in east they both connect to the same space, due to the fact that the majority of the south facing rooms are openly connected so activities like workshops, class rooms and crafts create a connection between the church and the community.A variety of versatile spaces create a building that facilitates the needs of the people of Hatlehol.

AALBORG

THEATER

REVITALISED.

A THEATER

WITH MORE

THAN ONE

AGENDA

Aalborg Theater is placed in a part of Aalborg city that gains little attetion from the public. To reinvent themselves, the theater wish to rethink the building which facilitates the needs of a modern theater. The building reaches out and gets attention to the two roads it is facing. It covers the side-walk while backdropping the glass entrance to create a mediating space for inviting people in.

Once inside the glass covered hall, a cafe presents itself, additionally a big staircase is immediately discovered. It leads one into the different halls. Once inside the big hall a red velvet interior unveils it self as a clear contrast for the shift of spatial use. As for the visitors, the people working in the theater have a designated space, a canteen, where they can meet and interact. The two spaces create a connection on a holistic basis.

INTERACTIVE

LIGHT

INSTALLATION

FOR THE

UTZON CENTRE

Creating light for existing spaces is a balance between the luminaires expression and the expression of the light it emits. This project is a culmination of an abundance of light experiments, which ended in a single light emitting unit, which is multiplied and combined to create a greater light installation. The idealistic intentions with it is to create a lamp which changes according to change in sound levels, So that it has a direct influence on the space which it occupies and reflects the conditions it is exposed to. Currently it is executed in 1:1 with static light in and other courtyard than it initially was designed for.

A PLACE

TO SIT:

AN EXERCISE

IN PLYWOOD

Combining architecture and furniture is explored in this workshop. We investigated the potentials of a place to sit through the contrast of exposed and sheltered space. The trials resulted in a 1:1 model of the results. This model was executed by us in a hands-on experience with plywood. The detailing was potentially a product of the plywoods different abilities to create a riggid structure, utilizing three types of joints.

SACRAL SPACE:

CONTEMPLATION

AND

SPIRITUALITYThrough the process of designing, interesting ideas arise, but might not coincide with the rest of a project. This project is the result of such ideas. After designing the Hatlehol project (p. 4-7) in a group, I had accumulated so many ideas and wanted to see them combined and explore their potential. This piece of architecture is intended to indulge all people - religious or not. It is to be viewed upon as a neutral ground for the acts of spirituality.

The building is placed in the periphery of nature, as to initiallize the feeling of detatchment from the rest of the world. Spirituality is the understanding of one self, and so the building has an introvert character, so as to support the action of reaching within one self.

PHOTOGRAPHY:

CAPTURING

THE MOMENT.

FRAMING THE

MOTIONPhotography as a tool for perceiving a single atmosphere. Photography is both a tool of documentation and creation. The border between reality and fantasy is blured.

The detail is enhanced, and singled out. The idealistic view is captured. Photography as an exercise in perceiving space. The motion is captured to create atmospheres the eye cant.

ORIGAMI:

FOLDING

AS INSPIRATION

FOR SHAPING

ARCHITECTURE

AND

DESIGN

In the creation of architecture inspiration is often found in a wide variety of places, among them lie other media. Folding a piece of paper can create and abundance of different expressions. Additionally the folding keeps the inspiration unique for each time it is executed.Paper can inspire on all architectural scales. E x p l o i t i n g / T r y i n g /Using different means of manipulation and paper types increase the diversity of this technique.
