KIDS TALKABOUT LIFE

» “I would be lost without my mentor’s guidance. And I would have extreme anger.” - 14-Year-Old Boy in YFC Mentors

» “What is the meaning of life?” - 13-Year-Old Girl in Campus Life

» “I sleep on the floor most of the time.” - 13-Year-Old Boy in Walking Tall

» “Sharing his story has given me hope that I can succeed also.” - 15-Year-Old Boy in Point Break

Although we offer fun and helpful programs for kids, our real work is building the relationships necessary for kids to thrive. By providing places where youth feel secure, by delivering a message of real hope, and by being people kids can truly count on, we are seeing lives transformed. Thank you for helping make all of this possible... Reaching the least, lost and lonely.

It’s SummerEXECUTIVE FOCUSA friend mentioned ‘vulnerable kids’ the other day. Their comment made me stop and think for a bit. I came to realize two things:1) Kids today, in general, are more vulnerable than they were when I started with YFC. We see situations related to abuse, abandonment and addiction at least 10x

more often than what we saw in the early nineties. Kids in our little valley are dealing with trauma we could hardly imagine 20+ years ago. 2) Rogue Valley YFC has changed over the years to meet this need. We’ve shifted our focus from events with a broad outreach to offer the most vital thing a vulnerable young person needs, a trusting and permanent connection with a loving adult who offers hope. All of our ministry programs now lead young people toward these “authentic relationships”. Whether it’s our Campus Life or City Life youth centers, our Juvenile Justice Ministry, Parent Life, Walking Tall or of course

YFC Mentors; every initiative directs each kid toward a trusting and permanent connection with a loving adult. This adult who functions as a guide, advocate, interpreter, cheerleader and friend; reduces the risk a young person faces and brings Good News.Proverbs says good news is like cold water to a thirsty soul. We see that to be true all the time!! You bring good news to many thirsty souls.—BUD AMUNDSEN Executive Director

Sometimes it feels like a lot of work and little craziness with a generous portion of JOY being the Area Director of Parent Life. Here’s what I mean: As I helped buckle kids into their car seats the two 3-year-old girls in the back were chatting...

“We are going to group...” “I love group...” “Me too...” And then it became a chant: “Yay! We love group... We love group; We are going to group...” All with a side of cute giggles! At that moment I was reminded that even the young toddlers look forward to our weekly teen mom meetings. Sometimes it feels like a lot of work and little craziness but we are not only blessed with growing relationships with teen moms but we are also privileged to come along side these moms and guide

them as they raise their babies. So many teen moms in our community don’t have anyone in their life to help them get through each day. Would you come along side a teen mom through Parent Life as a friend and give some much needed support? You’ll get to see the lives of two generations changed! To find out more give us a call at 541.779.3275 or visit us online at www.roguevalleyyfc.org.

Wow, summer is really HERE! I cannot believe how fast this school year went by. With the end of school comes the busy summer season filled with many activities for the kids. We begin the summer with middle school camp at Fir Point followed a week later by another camp for the high school group partnering with a local church. Phoenix-Talent Campus Life has about 13 kids participating in these camps. I am excited about the busy schedule and also grateful for your partnership with us. Many things have happened during the school year, some good and some sad. Both have been met with love and an openness that only God can provide. The end of the school year was hard on many of the kids with the loss of a classmate and we opened the doors to the youth center to provide help dealing with the stress of the loss. God has and continues to provide the help those kids need and are searching for. You’re reaching these kids all year round and you provide many activities for the kids of the Phoenix/Talent area. Thank you very much! —BOB STAPP Campus Life Area Director

TMA friend of my daughter’s recently committed suicide. What’s so sad is I know his parents were reaching out to him along with other adults in his life. His take on the world blinded him from seeing help nearby. He had been making bad choices over the last school year and many of those choices brought shame he felt he couldn’t face any longer. In the space of a few hours he made a terminal decision because he couldn’t see how life would ever get better. It’s startling how many young people work themselves into this tough, isolated place emotionally. We do know… two things give kids the best chance, a network of loving relationships and a message with a future hope. Our desire is to be sure every kid in our community has these two things.Thankfully, this past ministry year you made it possible to reach more kids than ever in these very tough places. As we set our sites on the coming ministry year with plans to see even more young people with loving relationships and a hope for a future I want to say thank you for all you’ve accomplished and for your work on behalf of kids this coming year.Thank You! - BudP.S.
