I would like to thank Mr Jones for his excellent leadership of the school during my leave last term, particularly the dedication day for Ryan and his guidance and support for staff teams as they worked through school evaluations in preparation for our external validation submission. This is the final term for our Year Six students. The much anticipated Country Fair fete is around the corner. Kindy Transition, Swimming Scheme and Jamberoo are but a few of the calendar events that this term has in store. The Skoolbag App and website calendar are continually updated and I encourage you to ensure all the important end of year dates are locked into your calendars. End of year Presentation Day – DATE CHANGE Due to a double booking with the Jamberoo School s Day for Year 6, we have had to move the Presentation Day to Wednesday 13 th December at 9.15am. We apologise for the inconvenience. The amended date is now on the schools calendar. Working Bee on Sunday Thank you to all those parents and students who gave up their Sunday morning to work at our school in preparation for fete day. Trees were trimmed, paths were washed, mulch was raked, leaves and rubbish collected and my puppy dog Cliff was very spoilt with lots of kids to throw him the ball! It was a really productive day, and a nice way for me to continue getting to know our very generous school community. At the risk of missing anyone Id like to say a massive thanks to: Kerryn M, Nadine F, Brad F, Trish D, Courtney K, Daniel M, Kim M, Scott M, Emily M, Ben M, Elen S, Vi R, Kerry K, Melanie T, Ava T, Louise B, Lambrina B, Jill B, Graeme B, Kerry P, Belinda P, Thomas P, Makayla P, Eva B, Josh F and Daniel K. I am really looking forward to the fete, and want to acknowledge the amazing work so far of our volunteers in preparation for this fun day.

Principal’s Report

Dear Parents & Carers,

Welcome back to Term 4 Welcome back to what is always a very busy but fabulous term at Lindsay Park as we head towards the end of the school year. I would like to thank Mr Jones for his excellent leadership of the school during my leave last term, particularly the dedication day for Ryan and his guidance and support for staff teams as they worked through school evaluations in preparation for our external validation submission. December at 9.15am. We apologise for the inconvenience. The amended date is now on the school’s calendar. At the risk of missing anyone I’d like to say a massive thanks to: Kerryn M, Nadine F, Brad F, Trish D, Courtney K, Daniel M, Kim M, Scott M, Emily M, Ben M, Elen S, Vi R, Kerry K, Melanie T, Ava T, Louise B, Lambrina B, Jill B, Graeme B, Kerry P, Belinda P, Thomas P, Makayla P, Eva B, Josh F and Daniel K. Another type of BEE… Unfortunately there are quite a few bees buzzing around the ground on the back oval at the moment. I am in contact with Wollongong Council for a solution and we have suggested to students that if they aren’t involved in ball games during their break time, that they should stay in the top playground. Students who have an allergic reaction to bee stings have also been advised to stay in the top playground. We hope to have this situation resolved shortly. Application for Year 7 Selective High School Placement in 2018 Online applications are now open for current Year 5 students considering Selective High School placement in 2019. Parents can apply online at www.schools.nsw.edu.au/shsplacement Applications close on 13th November and no late application will be accepted. Information booklets are available from the school office. Kindergarten Orientation A reminder that our Kindergarten Transition Program starts next week with the Parent Meeting on Monday 23

th October at 9.30am in the hall. It will be

great to meet all our new (and existing) parents. The student sessions are on Wednesday 8th and Thursday 9

th November (Session 1) or Wednesday

15th and Thursday 16th (Session 2). We are looking forward to seeing our new kindergarten students as they get their first taste of a primary school classroom. Information about the orientation program has been provided to all parents of new kindergarten students. If you have not received this information, please contact the school office.

External Validation Last week, all members of the school executive spent Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday finalising our submission or External Validation, a self-evaluation of our school against the School Excellence Framework. In two weeks’ time, the executive team will meet with a panel to discuss this submission and we look forward to sharing it with our school community later in the term, along with the draft School Plan 2018-2020. Road safety I would like to remind parents again about the importance of adhering to the RTA street signs when dropping off and picking up students. The Bus Zone must be clear AT ALL TIMES. The Kiss and Ride Zone is for dropping off and picking up only. You are not to leave your car and you need to move all the way up in the zone. If there are no spaces left in the Kiss and Ride zone, you will need to do a lap of the block. Please also be aware of parking near the crossing and blocking the view for drivers to see students crossing the road. I have included a poster to remind you about these important procedures to keep our kids safe. Teachers are Learners Too! On Thursday 2 October, the Kindergarten teachers continued their training in L3. On Monday 16 October I attended a Principal’s Network Meeting where school planning and evaluation was the theme of the day. Today, the Kindergarten teachers will have in class mentoring and feedback with their L3 trainer and the Stage 1 teachers will attend training in L3 at Wollongong West PS. On Monday 23 October, all staff will meet in the library after school to work on our school plan 2018-2020. On Tuesday 24 October, the executive team will work with one of our local Principal, School Leaders on developing effective milestones in the school plan. On Wednesday 25 October, Mrs Bailey will attend Reading Recovery training.

Stage 3 Canberra Project

Congratulations to Lachlan Hope of 5/6J who won the Canberra Project People's Choice Award for his amazing diorama of the World War One trenches. Below is his description of his model.

Congratulations Lachlan!

WW1 Gallipoli Trenches

With this I’m showing the difference between The Turkish Trenches and the Australian Trenches. The Australian Trenches were wonky and unstable because they were building in between gun fire as the Turkish trenches were prepared as they were made of robust stone and wood. Turkish had hard hitting machine guns, the men had no chance against the Turkish.

School Swimming Scheme

The Department of Education School Swimming and Water

Safety Program is an intensive learn to swim program, which

develops water confidence and provides students with basic

skills in water safety and survival.

The Program is open to 60 students from Year 2 who have

not reached a satisfactory standard of water safety and

survival skills, and are unable to swim 25m confidently

unaided in deep water. The Program takes place over ten

days, which will be in Term 4, Weeks 6 & 7. Each daily

lesson is 45 minutes.

There are limited spots available.

Parking and Drop Off/ Pick Up Information for Parents

Our school is a very busy place in the morning and afternoon when students are arriving and departing. If we all work together, follow the signs and use common sense, we can ensure everyone is safe.

-

If you want to park your car and come into the school, there are parking options on Thames Street and Risley Road on the other side of the school (see map overleaf). There is a pedestrian gate entrance at the back of our school.

Or leave the car at home and walk or ride. There are bike racks available courtesy of our generous P&C. Students need to dismount before the gate and walk their bike into the school grounds. Bike racks are located near the Infants toilets and at the end of the computer lab for our primary students.

This parking sign indicates a BUS ZONE before the driveway – please do not park or queue in this zone, buses use this space.

It also indicates a NO PARKING ZONE.

The area marked by the flags is our KISS AND DROP ZONE. You can use this space to pull up, drop/ collect your child without leaving your car. There is a teacher on duty in this zone in the afternoon from bell time until 3.10pm. This zone works if:

- All cars move all the way to the end of the zone

- Drive around the block if the zone is full, it doesn’t take long to empty

- Tell your child to wait until your car has stopped in the zone before they approach.

Look out for CHILDREN

CROSSING FLAGS and stop

before the solid white line. The

witches hats are there to remind

you that there is a NO PARKING

ZONE leading up to this crossing.

This crossing is not supervised, so

please go slow and be cautious.
