Dear Parents, This will be the final edition of the Tallong for 2016. I would like to thank our school community in assisting us with the transition to go online with the newsletter this year, saving paper and money. With the end of year events coming up, I am sure to see most people before we finish up on Friday 16th December, but I would like to officially wish all of our families a wonderful Christmas and a relaxing break, spending time with friends and family. I am very much looking forward to the 2017 school year and working together to achieve excellence at LPPS. Staffing News We have been given permission by staffing to fill one of our permanent teacher vacancies by activating the eligibility list from the most recent merit selection process conducted at the beginning of Term 4. Miss Laura Gerada has accepted the position and will start at Lindsay Park PS on day one next year. Miss Gerada brings knowledge, kindness and excellent pedagogy and she is very much looking forward to working in our school community. As we fill the permanent staffing positions in our school, this unfortunately means we must say farewell to some temporary staff members who have served our school very well in various roles. Sadly, Miss Thompson and Miss Smith will finish up their respective roles at LPPS at the end of this school year. Miss Thompson has worked tirelessly in Stage 2, building relationships with students, working collaboratively with parents and staff and providing excellent teaching and learning in her classroom. Miss Smith has been a vital member of our Learning and Support Team, advocating for students who require learning adjustments and working hard to provide quality instruction to every student in her care. She has also worked with determination, alongside the Green Team and parents to kick start our vegetable garden. I would like to thank both teachers, on behalf of the LPPS community and wish them success and happiness in their teaching careers. End of the day procedures Students who are being picked up in the Kiss and Ride Zone, as well as students who catch a bus must wait on the Kindergarten verandah when the bell goes at the end of the day. The duty teacher will walk all students over to the gate, to ensure safety. All students are being reminded of this procedure. If you are collecting your child in the Kiss and Ride Zone, please consider delaying your pick-up for 5-10 minutes. Even though the bell goes at 2.50pm, by the time the teacher walks students over to the gate, it will be closer to 3pm. I would also like to remind you that the duty teacher remains on duty until 3.15pm. As the Kiss and Ride Bay only fits four cars at a time, it would ease congestion if some people held off their pick-up until after 3pm. We will not leave students unsupervised at the gate. If you cannot fit in the designated pick-up zone, you need to drive around the block, you must not queue up in the bus zone. I have had several reports from teachers about the unsafe practices occurring at the end of the school day. It is everyone’s responsibility to ensure we get students home safely every day. Thank you for your cooperation on this.

Industrial Action Next Thursday morning there is a stop work meeting planned by the Teachers Federation. The meeting will take place from 8.30am and regular school conditions will resume by 10am. We will have reduced staff numbers at school during this meeting time, so if you are in a position to keep your children at home until 9.30am on Thursday 8th December, that will assist us in providing adequate supervision to meet the safety needs of students. More information will be distributed early next week. We apologise for the inconvenience.

Student Leaders for 2017 This week we held speeches and elections for the positions of Captains and Vice Captains. We had a large number of Year 5 students nominate for these very important roles which was really pleasing to see. The Captains and Vice Captains will be announced at our Presentation Day Assembly on Monday 12th December. Thank you to all the students who nominated. Combined SRE Session The last day for SRE (scripture) this year will be Tuesday 6th December. On that day, most students will come together for a combined Christmas session t finish the year. Many thanks to our SRE volunteers who provide these lessons to our students. Presentation Day Assembly Our annual Presentation Day Assembly will be held in the school hall on Monday 12th December, starting promptly at 9am. This is a very special presentation assembly and all parents and friends are welcome to attend. Parents of those students receiving an award will be notified by post. Last Day of Term 4 A reminder to parents that the last day of Term 4 for students and staff is Friday 16th December. Please note that our staff will not be at school on Monday 19th and Tuesday 20th December for the gazetted School Development Days because they have completed equivalent professional development hours in evenings and weekends across this semester as previously advertised in newsletters. Teachers are Learners Too! On Tuesday 29th November, I attended a Principal Network meeting at University of Wollongong. Today I am at a Primary Principals meeting held at Novotel North Wollongong. Next Tuesday 6th December, all members of the executive team will gather to analyse the data collected through our annual school evaluation. We will use this data to inform school planning for 2017 and look forward to sharing our findings with you early next year. On Wednesday 7th December, Mrs Dunbar will attend Best Start training in preparation for her role next year. Card Making This week Mrs Davis organised for many of our children to participate in making beautiful Christmas

craft activities. We had many parent helpers to assist the children. Thank you to our parent helpers and

thank you to Mrs Davis for her time and continued creativity. The students loved this experience.

I would like to say a big thank you to staff, parents and particularly the P&C who work tirelessly for our school to make it a wonderful learning place. Enjoy the festivities over the coming two weeks. Kind regards,

Jacqui Catford
