Only certain control options for the S42 pump utilize the Electrical Displacement Control (EDC). Pleaserefer to the pump’s nomenclature to determine if the pump is equipped with the proper option. Thenomenclature can be found on the pump’s nametag. For nomenclature details, refer to S42 Axial PistonPumps Technical Information, 11022637.

Theory of operation
The Electrical Displacement Control (EDC) uses an electrohydraulic Pressure Control Pilot (PCP) stage toprovide a differential pilot pressure. The PCP stage converts an electrical input signal to a hydraulic inputsignal to operate a spring centered sensing piston. The sensing piston produces a mechanical input tothe servo control valve which ports hydraulic pressure to either side of the servo piston. The servo pistonoperates the swashplate varying the pump’s displacement and flow direction.
The position of the swashplate is proportional to the electrical input signal. The control has mechanicalfeedback that regulates the servo valve in relation to swashplate position to maintain displacement atthe commanded level regardless of changes in system pressure. Any swashplate position error is fed backto the servo valve for instant correction.
The servo control valve has variable geometry porting to regulate swashplate response relative to inputcommand. The control performs small displacement change commands with maximum controllabilitythroughout the entire stroking range of the pump. It completes large displacement change commandswith rapid swashplate response. Optional servo supply and drain orifices are available for specialresponse needs.

Unintended vehicle or machine movement hazard. The loss of hydrostatic drive line power, in any modeof operation (forward, neutral, or reverse) may cause the system to lose hydrostatic braking capacity. Youmust provide a braking system, redundant to the hydrostatic transmission, sufficient to stop and hold thevehicle or machine in the event of hydrostatic drive power loss.
