-Amattoaa schooner Competitor of Key West, loaded with arms aad ammunition for 'the insnrce-ts for which she .was seeking a landiag place. On board of th* schooner were the rebel leader, Alfredo Laborda, Dr. Bedia, correspondent of El Mosquito, a Key West newspaper, and three others, ail of Whom w e n arrested.

The schooner's cargo consisted of 39,000 cartridges of different makes aad designed for different styles of weapons, many pack­ages of dynamite aad a large number of case* containing Mauser and Bamingtoa TtflBs. Th* vessel, and her cargo, together With th* prisoners wer* taken to Havana.

Shortly after discovering the schooner tb* gunboat opened fire upon her, killing three of her company. Many others of those oa board thereupon sprang into tb* water and swam ashore. The fire of the gunboat was returned by the Competitor. ' The prisoners have been lodged in Morro Castle, They will be tried by a naval court martial. *»*w
