Shepherds Field Olive Wood Handcrafts April 6 & 7
The weekend of April 6 and 7, a group from the Holy Land (Bethlehem &
Jerusalem) will be selling religious articles after all Masses to support the Catholic Christian minorities in Bethlehem. As a tradition, many of the Catholic families work in small workshops to produce religious articles from olive wood. In the past, they used to sell their artwork to pilgrims who visit the Holy Land; however, these days, they are facing an economic hardship as very few tourists visit the Holy Land due to security issues. Many Catholic families have immigrated and left the Holy Land. The percentage of Christians has dropped from 20 percent to less than 1 percent. Sales will be used to help and support the Catholics in the Holy Land and to encourage them not to immigrate.

Sunday, March 31, 2019 Gi s of Love
Today’s Readings: Joshua 5:9, 10–12; Psalm 34:2–3, 4, 5, 6–7; 2 Corinthians 5:17–21; Luke 15:1–3, 11–32. We hear in the Book of Joshua how the Lord takes care of all the needs of his people. They had relied upon manna sent as bread from heaven. Now they would eat from the produce of the land. Both the manna and the grain were gi s from God and provided nourishment for his children. In the story of the prodigal son, it is easy to focus on the younger son, who takes his father’s inheritance and squanders it on extravagant living. When he finds himself in a foreign land, alone and hungry, he finally realizes who he is and decides to return to his father to ask to be a hired hand. When the son is within eyesight, the father runs to him and embraces him with compassionate love. No ma er what the son has done, he is welcomed home. But what about the older son, who does not appreciate the love that the father showed to his younger son? The older son confronts his father since he is upset about the excessive love showered on the younger brother, who is given sandals, a robe, a ring, and a party for his friends. The father in this parable offers both of his sons his love. That is his gi to them. He invites them both to par cipate in the celebra on. During this Lent, remember that the Lord always looks forward to the return of his children.
Your Children’s Children God of all genera ons, from the beginning of me, you have given your children an abundance of gi s and provided for their needs. The Israelites were nourished with the Passover meal, and shared the produce of the land, as they told the story of the covenant in the land of Canaan. We ask that you con nue to bless your elect with the Bread of Life, and the story of your presence among your people. May our gathering around the ambo and altar sustain us, our children, and our children’s children. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Ojos de fe Lecturas del día: 1 Samuel 16:1b, 6 – 7, 10 – 13a; Salmo 23:1 – 2a, 3b – 4, 5, 6; Efesios 5:8 – 14; Juan 9:1 – 41. En la primera lectura, el Señor le dice a Samuel: “Dios no ve como los hom-bres, que ven la apariencia. El Señor ve el corazón”. De haberse guiado por lo que veía, Samuel seguramente habría escogido para ungirlo a alguno de los siete hijos de Jesé. Sin embargo, Dios eligió al más joven, el menos probable para ser rey. En el pasaje del evangelio, el ciego curado puede ver la iden dad de Jesús. Aquel de quien se pensaba que “había nacido en pecado”, es el que ahora ene ojos abiertos para ver a Jesús. Ese hombre era un mendigo y no tenía lugar propio en aquella sociedad. Pero Jesús desmonta aquel modo de pensar cuando decide abrir los ojos de aquel pordiosero. El ciego de nacimiento no solo recibió vista sino una nueva relación con Jesús. Con esta nueva relación, el hombre ates guó lo que Jesús había hecho en su vida, diciendo a los fariseos: “De una cosa estoy seguro, que yo era ciego y ahora veo”. En esta Cuaresma, ¿ha orado usted para ver como Jesús quiere que usted vea? ¿De qué manera sus ojos han sido abiertos para ver como Dios ve? ¿Nota algún cambio en su relación con Dios y con los demás? Estas úl mas semanas de Cuaresma, pida la gracia de ver como Dios ve.
Ojos para ver Señor Jesús, con ingredientes ordinarios de barro y agua, le diste la vista al que había nacido ciego, y pudiera creer en y adorarte, Hijo del Hombre. Acudimos hasta , para pedirte en oración, que nos liberes de todo aquello que nos impide ver tu pres-encia en nuestra vida diaria. Que reconozcamos tu presencia, especialmente en esos frutos simples de nuestra erra, pan y vino, traídos a la mesa de tu altar, para que se nos conviertan en tu Cuerpo y Sangre. Tú que vives y reinas, en la unidad del Padre y el Espíritu Santo, Dios por los siglos de los siglos, Amen
