Reflection Nineteenth Sunday of Ordinary Time

The realities of doubt and fear make commitment and fidelity a simple gift to God. He drags me often into His boat of affirmation

which lasts a while until the next big set of waves gives us that same sinking thinking. “You of little faith” is not a condemnation,

but the context for Jesus becoming Lord and the Sender.

“Lord, be true to your covenant, forget not the life of your poor ones for ever.” Ps. 74, 20

The resurrection choir is a great way to help families and friends celebrate the life of deceased loved one. The funeral mass or memorial can be a spe-cial time of Thanksgiv-ing, hope, and appreciation. Please consider making participation in the resurrection choir part of your stewardship. You would receive a call letting you know of a funeral. It would be a big help, whenever your schedule permits, to join this small choir. If you will share in this ministry, please contact the parish office or call

Traveling Mother of Divine Mercy Prayer Group Home Visitation

During the month of July, 2017 the statue of Mary, the Mother of God traveled from the Santana family to the Abad family. The families prayed the rosary at their homes.

Our parish is doing the Pilgrim Virgin home visit-ation under the supervision of Fr. Aldrin Nunes, C.Ss.R. If you would like to host a visit, please call Esper Radosta at 386-848-1787.

This year marks the 100th year anniversary of the apparitions of Our Lady of the Rosary to the three children in Fatima, Portugal. She appeared every 13th of the month from May to October, 1917. She asked the children to spread her mes-sage to pray the rosary for world peace.

I listened with great interest as Fr. Tom presented a gentle reminder for living life mindfully on Saturday 7/15/17 at 4:00pm mass. He received an article from a friend who was fortunate to have 2 careers, therefore, 2 pensions and was able to spend years volunteering.

Today there is “change attributed to emphasis on education and less confidence in the economy”. I

paraphrase from AARP Bulletin July—Aug 2017. The U S census Bureau compares how people born between ‘41 and ‘57 were living as young adults in the 70’s with how the people the same age lived in 2016. The changes are STARTLING! Todays young adults look different from prior generations in al-most every regard.

There are 4 milestones of adulthood: moving out of parents’ house, getting married, having a child, and getting a job. 1975 2016

Reached 4 plateaus: 45% 24%

Delay in marriage: 8-10 by age 30 8-10 by age 45

Live at home: 18-34 1 in 5 1 in 3

Women at home: 43% 14%

Those of us born between 1925—1941 would compare as SIGNIFICANTLY different.

From Smithsonian, July 2017, “The world is changing faster than ever.” Secular scientist insist that the human nature includes a “faith instinct”. Biologist E.O. Wilson wrote, “Religion origins run deeper than habits and are heredity”. 84% of 7.3 billion people on earth are affiliated with a religion, per pew Research. Nearly a third are Christian. Isn't it remarkable to ponder, no matter how late we marry, live with parents etc. We keep the faith?

Let us look at our similarities vs differences to be close, loving and helpful to each other and our church as we worship god.

Heavenly Father, We could never thank our military men and women enough for their cou-rageous service and sacrifice to our country and its people. Show us ways in our communities, churches, and families to thank and love them better. Keep and protect these heroes and their

families, in the powerful name of Jesus we pray. Amen.

“There are different gifts but the same Spirit, there are different ministries but the

same Lord . . . To each person the manifestation of the spirit is given for the

common good.” Every person is called to contribute to the liturgy in a manner suited to his or her unique talents. It takes the help of many people serving in a variety of differ-ent liturgical ministries to help the liturgy flow smoothly and enable the participation of the assem-bly. At the present time there is a serious need for volunteers in all ministries at St. Gerard’s. We invite you to prayerfully reflect on the gifts God has given you and consider volunteering your talents for one of our ministries.

Training: Training is provided to help you get started in all the listed ministries.

Scheduling: Liturgical ministers are scheduled at the Mass time of their preference as often as fits their schedule and are asked to arrive 30 minutes before their scheduled Mass begins.

Contact: Please see list of ministries, below. Call the leader of the ministry you are interested in to volunteer or for further information.
