Reflection How can we overcome sin and gain freedom over our unruly desires and the lies of Satan and the world? The Lord Jesus gives us his Holy Spirit to help us in our weakness (Romans 8:26) and to be our guide and consoler in temptation and testing (1 Corinthians 10:13). The Lord gives grace to the humble who acknowledge their dependence on him (James 4:6) and he helps us to stand against the lies and attacks of our enemy, Satan, who seeks to destroy us (1 Peter 5:8-10; Ephesians 6:10-18). The Lord Jesus is ever ready to pour out his Spirit upon us that we may have the strength and courage we need to resist sin and to reject the lies and deceits of Satan. God wants us to "fight the good fight of the faith" (1 Timothy 6:12) with the power and strength which comes from the Holy Spirit. Do you rely on the Lord for your strength and help?
"Lord Jesus, your word is life and joy for me. Fill me with your Holy Spirit that I may have the strength and courage to embrace your will in all things and to renounce whatever is contrary to it.”

Homeless Lockout 2020. Our middle school students slept in boxes for a night to grow in awareness on the
plight of our homeless brothers living in boxes and tents. Our heartfelt thanks to the New Smyrna Beach Police Department - Sgt. Mongosa, Officer John & Officer Trzasak for checking on us the entire night. We also thank our parents - Mrs. Cintron, Mrs. Stout, Mrs.Corso, and Mrs. Breary; Fr. Jim McCabe, and Fr.Aldrin Nunes who chaperoned our children the whole night of February 14th and waited until all the children were picked up by their parents on Saturday morning. This was the third homeless lockout Sacred Heart School had organized. Guest speakers were Ms. Donna Hinkle from
“Under the Stars” hot meals program and Sgt. Jen Mongosa of NSB Police Department.
This was the JMJ group enjoying Mac and Cheese made by Ms. Suzanne Cooley and
decorated cupcakes made by Ms. Stephanie. The group began
with prayer and we discussed the upcoming Sunday Gospel, relating it to the Spiritual and Corporal Works of Mercy. We then engaged in a craft for Valentines' Day. Our group
consists of 3rd through 8th graders, we meet Wednesday 3-5pm in the Social Hall. Anyone wishing to join us is encouraged to
send a permission slip to the school office! May God continue to Bless our efforts.
S.T.R.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Religion, Engineering, Arts, and Math) Day – A Valentine’s Day to remember
challenged every student to engage in faith-infused academic learning. Students immersed themselves in hands-on, collaborative learning in the areas of STREAM. All the activities presented by the STREAM team led by Mrs. Barbara Panagis proved a
success. Students from all grade levels enjoyed their critical/creative experience and created projects such as candy delivery zip lines, cupid crosses, density labs, pulley systems, and jump ropes.
Sacred Heart Catholic School is preparing for its STREAM certification and has been designing project-based activities promoting independent and student-centered learning rooted in our Catholic faith and tradition.
Sacred Heart Catholic School is a nationally recognized Blue Ribbon school for PreK thru 8. For more information or to schedule a tour of our school, please contact Mrs. Lisa Buck, school manager or Mrs. Shelley Niswonger, principal at 386-428-4732

Change for a Change
Because it is the season of Lent and a time of reflection and sacrifice, it is a good time to think of our less fortunate brothers and sisters in our area. Again this year, Sacred Heart/St. Gerard Council of Catholic Women are asking each family of the parish to take a bottle home and collect their change throughout Lent to help with the Hot Meal program and other non-profits that provide for the homeless in our area.
Bottles will be available at all masses THIS WEEKEND Feb 29th & March 1st.
We will collect the bottles Easter weekend, April 11 & 12. Because of your support and generosity,
we have collected over$14,000 in the past 3 years. Let's see if we can raise another amazing amount this year!

And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, conversing with him. Then Peter said to Jesus in reply, “Lord, it is good that we are here. If you wish, I will make three tents here, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud cast a shadow over them, then from the cloud came a voice that said,
“This is my beloved Son, with who I am well pleased; listen to him. Matthew 17:3-5

Come contemplate, and enter into,
the mystery of Jesus' gift of himself to us.
Why should people give to OCA? Through OCA, our diocese is able to address the
spiritual, educational, and humanitarian needs of our nine counties in ways that no parish could accomplish alone.
In this way, OCA provides parish leaders with an opportunity to address the connectedness of our Church
and the impact OCA has in our community. Every time we say the Creed, we reaffirm the fact that we are members of
the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church. Each of us is responsible not only for his or her parish,
but also for the well-being of the Church throughout our diocese and the world.
ALUMINUM POP TAB COLLECTION
The POP TAB collection period for 2019 – 2020 will end
on Sunday March 1st. We had a banner year
thanks to all of you who participated. A picture
of our collection will be on the bulletin board
in the vestibule ofSt. Gerard in a few weeks,
look for it and be proud. Our collection of POP
TABS, will be combined with the POP TABS
collected by the families and friends of
Chisholm Elementary School in NSB and donated to the
Ronald McDonald houses in Orlando. They depend
greatly on these yearly collections donated by the schools
participating in their program to help offset the cost to
shelter, comfort, and care for the families as they wait for
their children to be healed. The next POP TAB collection
period, 2020 – 2021, will begin immediately on Monday
March 2nd so as in the past, since 2009, please start saving
those POP TABS again, every one counts.
Thank you again. God Bless. Extraordinary Ministers of Holy
Communion are lay ministers who
have been commissioned by the Bishop of
Orlando to assist the priest in distributing
Holy Communion at Mass. They serve at
all Masses at Saint Gerard's Church – Saturdays at 4:30 pm,
Sundays at 10:00 am, Wednesday Mass, Holy Days, Funeral
Masses and, with special training, visits to the homebound.
Catholics in good standing must be recommended by the Pastor
to the Diocese of Orlando. They are initially trained by the
Diocese in a three hour class. These classes are held in various
locations throughout the year. Once trained, the mandates are
good for 5 years. After the initial training, Extraordinary
Ministers receive instruction on the procedures at Saint Gerard's
Church. Schedules are posted monthly. Ministers can indicate at
what Mass they prefer to serve, and are asked to find a substitute
if they are unable to serve on their scheduled day. They may be
asked to arrive thirty minutes to an hour before Mass to help pre-
pare for the Eucharistic celebration.
Baptized and confirmed Catholics are qualified to be
Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion.
Anyone interested in serving in this ministry can speak to any
Eucharistic Minister, or contact Jan Ford at 386-690-7623
Here at St. Gerard’s
Especially during the summer, our
ministries need more helpers! If you
have served or never served at the
altar, training is available.
Ladies, this means you too!
Heavenly Father, we could never thank our Military Men & Women Policeman, Fireman and 1st Responders enough for their courageous service and sacrifice to our country and its people.
Show us ways in our communities, churches, and families to thank and love them better. Keep and protect these heroes and their families, in the powerful name of Jesus we pray. Amen.
St. Gerard's Memorial Brick Program This program is being run by the
St. Vincent de Paul Conference.
The engraved bricks cost $50;
bricks with a logo cost $10 more.
Forms with Instructions are available
on the bulletin board in the vestibule of
St. Gerard's.
St. Gerard’s is in need of Ushers. We are blessed with a very spiritual
atmosphere because of all parishioners.
Now we have a need for men and women to
volunteer to be Ushers or part time Ushers to
help keep our Mass running smoothly and
reverently. We will work with your schedule
that is convenient for you. If you would only like to do the collec-
tion basket that would be very helpful. Anytime that you can give
to helping our Mass run smoothly would be greatly appreciated.
Please help us to continue our spiritual atmosphere
for all parishioners. WE NEED YOU!
