On Saturday, June 6th, the eighth grad-ers from our parish school, East Boston Central Catholic, will graduate. These 22 young men and women will prepare over the summer to enter into the High Schools of their choice. I ask that you
pray for them as they make this transition from our junior high school to high school. Please commend to your prayers the rest of the children who will offi-cially end school on Friday, June 19th. May the sum-mer that is quickly approaching be filled with rest and safety. Also, let us remember our staff and the administration as they prepare to close out another school year. They have done a phenomenal job this year in educating and caring for our children. May they enjoy a well deserved break.

The Deacon’s Desk . . . The Deacon’s Desk . . . The Deacon’s Desk . . . The Deacon’s Desk . . . Each Sunday morning, before our prayer, I speak to the inmates with a thought for the week. Last week, we celebrated Memorial Day, a time when we as a nation remember those who have served our country and protected our
liberties. I shared these words of General Douglas McArthur, from his farewell address at West Point: “The soldier, above all other men, is required to practice the greatest act of religious training - sacrifice. In battle and in the face of danger and death, he discloses those divine attributes which his Maker gave when he created man in his own image. No physical courage and no brute instinct can take the place of the Divine help which alone can sustain him. However horrible the incidents of war may be, the soldier who is called upon to offer and to give his life for his country, is the noblest development of mankind.”

Sacred Heart Parish Family 303 Paris Street, East Boston, MA 02128
Summer is just about here! It is important to examine our “dress code” for Holy Mass.
There is a time and place for just about everything. How we dress for Church fits into this category. How we dress should be guided by the spirit of respect and modesty we have for ourselves, Church, and the people around us. The Parish Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is a House of Worship and Prayer; it is the House of God where we gather as God's people. It is "The Temple of God" where we celebrate the Sacred Mysteries of our Faith.
Does it matter what we wear when we enter Church to participate in Religious services? The answer is yes! Absolutely!! Absolutely!! Absolutely!! Absolutely!! Despite changing cultures, some things do not and should not change. RESPECT is the key word. We can be casual and comfortable and still be respectful and modest in our attire.
In recent years, we have become lax and careless in this area. The Church of God is notis notis notis not a beach, a back-yard, a mall, a sporting event, or a park. Styles change, but RESPECT for God's House, for yourself, and for others, does not. We have forgotten that how we look and dress for different occasions makes a state-ment about who we are and what values guide our personal lives. Parents need to teach their sons and daughters what is modest, appropriate, and respectful for church, as well as, many social events. But parent must first look at the example they give by the way they dress. Church is no place for tee-shirts with inappropriate or vulgar words and expressions, cut offs, (male or fe-male); halter tops; tank tops, crop tops. At times it is embarrassing to see how some enter the House of God.
Does it matter? YES!!!! It is about RESPECT for God, for self and for others!! Just something to think about in the weeks ahead.
