Sadhna

Foreword, 2016 -17Sadhna has completed another successful year. It crossed the Rupees Four Crore sales bar-rier despite temporary odds, such as the demonetisation of the economy last November and the resultant drop in demand. Not only that, during this year, Sadhna also paid off the last instalment towards the loan taken to build the Common Facility Centre at Delwara. A great deal of effort has gone into this success. New designs were created and the produc-tion process made more efficient. Most important are Sadhna’s sustained efforts to enable artisans, also owners of Sadhna, to uphold its founding values of empowering women and contributing towards improved civic life in their communities.Sadhna is a well-known brand today. It is known within the country and abroad not only for the quality of its products but also for its fair trade practices. Sadhna has slowly yet surely become a site for young designers to intern and learn about the functioning of a social enterprise.

I want to use this occasion to express my gratitude of Ms Seema Shah, CEO of Sadhna and each and every member of the Sadhna Team for their outstanding leadership. They have together managed to, not only meet business targets but also honour Sadhna’s social ob-ligations. Sadhna has an elaborate architecture of welfare for its workers and their families. It also strives to make its 700 plus members feel that they are equal members of Sadhna, irrespective of their skills, social and religious backgrounds. No words are enough to salute this amazing team! I would also like to thank all the buyers and clients of Sadhna for their patronage and discerning tastes. It is they who spur Sadhna to excellence, and who are both our severest critics and staunchest supporters. This journey would not have taken place without their support and solidarity for this cause. I would also like to thank Sadhna’s donors, J.K tyres and Exim Bank, for their generous support. Last and not the least I would like to thank my fellow board members for their vision and guidance. They are an unfailing source of encouragement and inspiration, and have always nudged Sadhna to stay steady on the chosen path of blending profit and purpose! As I end this Foreword (last from my side), may I say what an absolute honour it has been for me to be associated with Sadhna – and I will continue to be one of its loudest cheerleaders in the years to come!

The feather in the cap of Sadhna this year is that after a long stagnancy period it has been able to break the glass ceiling and cross the Rs 4.00 crore mark closing this year with a turnover of Rs 4,04.98,913. The total production has crossed Rs. 4.79 crores( at MRP) but because of the vari-ous external issues namely demonetization etc it could not reach the Budgeted Sales of Rs 4.50 crores.

Internal systems and processes have seen a great improve-ment with the teams and the artisans equally motivated and geared up to take Sadhna into the next level of growth .

Timely delivery and zero defect has been the focus area of Production for big buyer orders . Efforts are on in the pro-duction side to lay equal emphasis on Sadhna order pro-duction and small orders .The entire emphasis has been put on production with an understanding that if we increase our Production capacity then the overheads will be spread over more output and Sadhna would be able to make its prod-ucts market competitive.

Success StoryPUSHPA YADAV

Mrs. Pushpa Yadav wife of Sitaram ji Yadav belongs to backward area. Her economic condition was deplorable. Sitaram ji who used to work as operator at marble mine was the only working member of the in the family and his income was not enough to even fulfill their basic needs. This led their children to have merger means to education. This constant struggle led her to discover Sadhna through women of her area who used to sit in temple or home and do their work. She was intrigued and asked them if she could help them with something. The initiation was not easy, her family was not at all supportive of her new endeavor. They thought it to be the waste of time and energy and there was nothing she could get out of this work. But once in the initial stage when they find out that there is sub-stantial income their mindset changed and started supporting her. Today she is an integral part of handicraft sector from past 11 years. Joining and work under has been phenomenal for the growth of her family it also brought a great change in her life. The living standards of her family has increased their after. Her children are pursuing their education with better means.

She is also the leader of her group. She is an inspiration and has been motivational to many other women and now 18 women are working under her. Her work takes priority for her. Furthermore she wants to grow constantly as an individual. That is when showed interest to go for exhibitions, but her husband refused. Owing to her keen determination to go, she overcame the ob-stacles in her way and convinced her hus-band. This change made her so capable that she has been able to make her own house.

Her vision is far sighted this has also led to a formation of a group of 20 members where they deposit 500rs. So that whenever any member of the group needs financial help so that they can help themselves by tak-ing loan on 1% interest. These kind of small efforts make the community a strong force to reckon and a monumental to individual upliftment.
