SAGATIBA CACHAÇA HISTORY Sagatiba is a cachaça, a white spirit made from fermented sugarcane juice that originates from Brazil. Cachaça is the third most widely consumed spirit in the world and 1.3 billion litres of cachaça are produced each year, mainly for domestic consumption in Brazil. Outside Brazil, cachaça is used almost exclusively as an ingredient in tropical drinks, with the caipirinha being the most famous cocktail. Brazilian entrepreneur Marcos de Moraes founded Sagatiba in 2004. Marcos wanted to bring the flavour of his country to the world and push the boundaries of what was possible with Brazil’s national spirit. Sagatiba produces three labels; Pura, Velha and Preciosa. PRODUCTION Sagatiba is distilled from fresh pressed sugarcane juice and maintains the bright, fruity flavours and stimulating natural bouquet of its main ingredient. Cachaça is often compared to rum, which is also derived from sugarcane. Yet with its lively and fresh cane characteristics, cachaça stands apart from rum, which is made from molasses, a by-product of sugar refineries. Sagatiba is distilled up to four times to render a spirit of maximum purity. TASTING NOTES Sagatiba Pura Sagatiba Pura’s cutting edge multi-distillation process produces a very clean spirit with the delicate flavour and aroma of fresh cut sugarcane. COLOUR: Clear and bright NOSE: Sweet, sugary and intoxicating nose that mellows the senses TASTE: The mellow palate is full of caramel velvetiness that leaves you craving the sweetest candies of childhood FINISH: Lightly sweet and spicy, mineral oil accented fade Sagatiba Velha Sagatiba Velha (pronounced ‘vel-ya’) is for those who like a smooth spirit with character. It is handcrafted in small batches using the traditional copper pot distillation method, and then laid to rest for at least two years in American white oak casks. This allows the full flavour notes of butternut and plantain to develop and gives the spirit its golden colour. COLOUR: Pale gold NOSE: Complex banana and coconut custard, brown spice, oily praline, jasmine, cane stalk, and golden raisin aromas TASTE: Silky entry to a dry yet fruity medium-to-full body with a sensationally smooth, oily texture and delicate peppery spice accents FINISH: Finishes gracefully with a nice creamy caramel, nougat, custard and wet mineral fade Sagatiba Preciosa Sagatiba Preciosa is a special edition cachaça aged for over 23 years. It was distilled in the traditional copper pot method and was laid to rest in 19th century French oak casks. It is a rare treasure, as only 3,000 bottles exist. COLOUR: Light, warm, golden amber NOSE: Subtle fragrance of toasted coconut, prune and raisin complemented by notes of floral honey and vanilla TASTE: Subtle and rich flavours of honey and cream, raisins, creamy vanilla and honey FINISH: Elegant and balanced
