Queridos Amigos, Hay una pequeña iglesia especial en un punto alto en la ciudad de León, Nicaragua. Se llama "El Calvario" que significa "Calvary" en inglés. Fue construida para honrar la crucifixión de Jesús, un Misterio que está muy en el centro de nuestra fe católica. En la portada de este boletín, he incluido una foto de esa Iglesia. La foto no muestra las características llamati-vas y los detalles inspiradores que se encuentran aden-tro y afuera de la parroquia. Subir las escaleras a la iglesia da la sensación de lo que podría ser caminar hacia la Cruz de Jesús. Hay imágenes coloridas de los Misterios Dolorosos del Rosario. Adentro de la iglesia, un peregrino de visita puede encontrar más imágenes y recordatorios de los grandes sufrimientos de Jesús por nosotros. Una iglesia como "El Calvario" puede fortalecer nuestra fe. Los grandes maestros espirituales siempre enseñan la importancia de meditar en los sufrimientos de Jesús y de Su Pasión y Muerte. Si ustedes pudieran pasar unas horas en la iglesia de "El Calvario", podrían constatar esta realidad al vivirla. Mirarían personas agobiadas por todo tipo de cargas y aflicciones, vinien-do a encontrar al Salvador del Sufrimiento, Jesús. De hecho, eso mismo, es cierto aquí en nuestra iglesia parroquial. Los animo a todos y a cada uno a rezar de manera renovada y renovadora los Misterios del Rosario, y a orar las Estaciones de la Cruz en esta Cuaresma. Encuentren la conexión entre sus propias luchas y el Sacrificio de Jesús. Hay una paz y una libertad que se encuentran en Él. Él sabe a lo que nos enfrentamos. Tal vez pueden buscar las enriquecedoras lecturas de la Misa de este domingo. Pasen tiempo real con El que nos salva. "... díganle al Señor: 'Mi refugio y mi fortaleza, mi Dios en quien confío.'" Dear Friends, There is a special little church on a high point in the city of Leon, Nicaragua. The church goes by the name “El Calvario” or “Calvary” in English. It was built to honor the Crucifixion of Jesus, a very central Mystery of our Catholic Faith. I have included a pho-tograph of it on the cover of this bulletin. The photo doesn’t do justice to the striking features and the inspiring details to be found outside and inside the church. Walking up the stairs to the church has the feel of what it might be like to walk up toward the Cross of Jesus. There are colorful images of the Sor-rowful Mysteries of the Rosary. Inside the church a visiting pilgrim can find more images and reminders of the great sufferings of Jesus for us. A church like “El Calvario” is one that can strengthen our faith. Great spiritual masters always teach the importance of meditating on the Sufferings of Jesus and of His Passion and Death. If you could spend a few hours in “El Calvario” church you would be able to see this truth being lived out. You would see peo-ple who are burdened by all manner of burdens and afflictions. You would see them coming to find the Suffering Savior, Jesus. The same thing, in fact, is true here in our parish church. I encourage each of you to pray in a renewed and re-newing way the Sorrowful Mysteries of the Rosary and to pray the Stations of the Cross this Lent. Find the connection between your own struggles and the Sacrifice of Jesus. There is a peace and a freedom to be found in Him. He knows what you’re facing. Maybe try searching this Sunday’s rich readings at Mass. Spend real time with the One who saves us. “…say to the Lord, ‘My refuge and fortress, my God in whom I trust.’” With my prayers, Fr. An Important Change As we try to create and maintain a prayerful atmosphere here in the church, please make every effort to resist the habit of clapping after the closing hymn at Mass. While we truly appreciate the work of our choirs and musi-cians, there are more appropriate ways to express it. They do what they do as a way of praising God with the very gifts and talents He has shared with them.
Have you noticed?!! A few weeks ago we made an upgrade in the church which has had a very big effect on the atmosphere here for worshiping God. Have you noticed that the awful exploding sounds that were coming from the speakers at random times have stopped happening? Thanks to a generous donor (say a prayer for him) we were able to install some new equipment in the choir area which seems to have corrected the problem. May it enhance our prayer by preventing the interruption of loud and unwelcome noises!

Stations of the Cross
Please join us for the Stations of the Cross every Friday, following the 7:00 pm Mass during Lent. As a result, there will be no Eucharistic Adoration that day. Confessions will still be held at 7:30 pm.
Simple Suppers During Lent The Knights of Columbus cordially invite you to Friday Night Simple Suppers from 7:00-9:00 pm in the School Cafeteria, with “meatless” soups and breads. All are wel-comed, please bring your friends and families. Free for everyone! Meatless food contributions are accepted.

fruits”, the best that you have to offer, or do you give from what is leftover? Second, do you recognize that

Movie Showing: ‘Gardener of God’
Catholic Daughters Court Queen of Peace #1872 will be showing the movie, Gardener of God, at St. Ann Catholic Church in Arlington. The movie is about Fr. Gregor Mendel. There will be two showings on March 12 and March 16. A suggested donation is to bring to one household item to put into “Welcome Home” Baskets which will be given to A-SPAN (Arlington Street People Assistance Network) Cli-ents moving into new housing.

La Petición Cuaresmal del Obispo financia muchos programas, servicios y ministerios que están destinados a las personas necesitadas y llevan adelante la misión evangelizadora de Jesucristo en nuestra dióce-sis. Estaciones de la Cruz Por favor acompáñanos para las Estaciones de la Cruz cada viernes, después de la Misa en inglés a las 7:00 pm durante la Cuaresma. Por esta razón, no habrá Adoración Eucarísti-ca ese día. Habrá confesiones a las 7:30 pm.

¡¿Han Notado?!! Hace unas semanas hicimos una actualización en la iglesia, la que ha tenido un gran efecto en su ambiente para adorar a Dios. ¿Han notado que los sonidos tan molestos como de explosión que inesperadamente venían de los altavoces, ya no ocurren? Gracias a la donación generosa de una persona (oren por él) pudimos instalar un equipo nuevo en el área del coro que parece haber corregido el problema. ¡Que este reajuste mejore nuestra oración, al prevenir que sea inte-rrumpida debido a fuertes sonidos no deseados!
Clases de Crianza/ Formación con Sabiduría
El Programa SCAN está ofreciendo clases de crianza/formación con Sabiduría (en español) para padres de niños de 11 años y más, en la biblioteca Woodrow Wilson en Culmore, Va. Las clases se impartirán del 7 de marzo al 11 de abril, los jueves de 7:00-9:00 pm y cubrirán temas im-portantes para la familia, por ejemplo: Desarrollar relacio-nes positivas; ¿Cómo establecer límites y disciplina?; Encontrar soluciones efectivas en la solución de problemas comunes de los adolescentes, etc. Para registrarse y obtener más información, contactar a Marisol Morales: (703) 820-9001, ext. 106, o Carla Paredes: (703) 725-8929.

Necesitamos adultos voluntarios responsables, que sean hábiles para contar dinero, y que trabajen bien con otras personas, para ayudar una vez al mes, ya sea los domin-gos en la tarde o en la noche, o los lunes en la maña-na. Un Cambio Importante Mientras intentamos crear y mantener un ambiente de oración aquí en la iglesia, por favor hagan todo lo posi-ble por no aplaudir al final de los cantos en la Misa.
