MEDITATION FOR JANUARY 24th 2021 Prepare each day for the end of our earthly lives.

There is an ancient practice of reflection on mortality that goes as far back as Socrates: Mementa Mori, or Remember, thou art mortal. Today’s Scriptures are perfect for the Christian spiritual practice of thinking about our life, and eventual death-a reminder that or ultimate goal in faith is to live with God after this life. Awareness of our own

mortality should spur us to act righteously each day. At God’s command, Jonah goes to Nineveh, prophesying destruction. The citizens of Nineveh repent and are spared. Saint Paul urges the Corinthians to act in a way that reflects the passing away of this world. In the Gospel, Jesus arrives in Galilee, proclaiming the time of fulfillment has arrived, and that all are to repent, and believe in the Gospel. The Apostles Simon, Andrew, James and John leave their lives as fishermen to follow his.

SPIRITUAL REMEMBRANCE Week of January 24th, 2021

TABERNACLE CANDLES In Memory of Walter J. Yuras, Sr.

Donated by Tammy Stempinski

“Follow me and I will make you fishers of men.” Mark 1:17 Jesus’ call to “follow me” is a call to all

Christians! The call is in the here and now, in our present circumstances, not when we think we are “ready” or have everything in order. Good stewardship of our God-given gifts means that things aren’t always going to go according to our schedule and that God has a much better plan in store for ach of us.

The 1st Quarter envelopes for 2021 were sent out on December 2nd. They are being held back at the Kearney Post Office facility Please use a plain envelope or the special envelopes in the Gathering Area with your name & envelope number until they are received. Some parishioners have received their envelopes.

INTENTIONS OF OUR HOLY FATHER We are invited to unite with our Holy Father, Pope Francis, for this universal intention during the month of January. Human fraternity. May the Lord give us the grace to

live in full fellowship with our brothers and sisters of other religions, praying for one another, open to all.

KEEP IN TOUCH WITH YOUR PARISH OFFICE

Are you new to the area? Are you a registered member of the parish?? Are you moving???

If you have recently moved into the area and have not yet registered in the parish, we encourage you to become a registered member. You may do so in a variety of ways: you can ask an usher for a registration packet after Mass; by stopping by or calling the Parish Office to obtain a registration packet. Once registered, you will receive quarterly mailing of parish offertory envelopes.

The use of an Offertory envelope helps us to track Mass attendance which affects your status as an active or inactive parishioner. Mass attendance, not the content of the offertory envelope, is reviewed twice a year and a letter is sent to those who have not used their envelopes in a specified time period.

It is necessary to be an ACTIVE, REGISTERED member of the parish in order to obtain Sponsor Letters which are needed to act as Godparents for Baptism or Sponsors for Confirmation. Sponsor letters cannot be given to those considered inactive (or not registered). We also ask that anyone seeking to be married in our church or to baptize a child be registered in the parish. If you are moving out of the parish, please contact the office around the time of your move so we may change our records accordingly and avoid sending you envelopes you don’t need.

Any questions, please call the Parish Office, 732-297-3000.

We need your help!

Pope Francis said that every Christian is an active agent of evangelization. Every Christian who has encountered the love of

God in Christ Jesus is a missionary. And if a person has welcomed this love that gives the meaning to his life, he cannot contain the desire to communicate it to others. We have a wonderful RCIA team, ready and willing to share the faith with those who seek a relationship with Jesus in the truth of the Catholic faith. But we need your help in identifying those who are possible candidates. It may be a neighbor, a friend, a family member or even a spouse whom you would recommend to us. RCIA is for those who have never been baptized, for those baptized in another Christian faith who would like to become Catholic or for baptized Catholics who need both First Communion and Confirmation to complete their Sacraments of Initiation. If you have discussed this possibility with anyone or know anyone who may be interested, please call the Parish Office (732-297-3000) and we will contact them immediately. Thank you for your help! Deacon Denis
