My Dear Parishioners,
In my 14 years here, I have noticed that once the 4th of July passes, many more of our parishioners begin to take their much needed and much deserved summer vacations. My hope and prayers are that your vacations will be accompanied by good health, excellent weather, and most
importantly, enjoyable reunions with family and friends. One of the effects of the summer is that with so many parishioners away, our Sunday collections are reduced. In fact, over the last few months, our Parish Finance Council has noticed a slight decrease trending so that weekly collections have dropped a little under the usual $23,000 level, which the council feels enables us to maintain a healthy financial picture. That is the reason why they have advised me to encourage more of our parishioners to consider E-GIVING as the normal way to contribute to the support of the mission of our parish. The increasing number of parishioners who transferred to E-GIVING has helped the parish maintain budgeted income, despite snowstorms, holiday weekends, etc. It is especially helpful when many people vacate for summer excursions. It’s easy to begin E-Giving. All you have to do is go online to st-bede.org/e-giving. As always, I thank you for your continued generosity not only in our Sunday collections, but also with the many other special collections that happen throughout the year. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the members of our Parish Finance Council, who guide me in the stewardship of the parish’s temporal affairs. I value and trust their advice regarding capital projects, investments, budget, etc. The following are the members of our Parish Finance Council: Cas Ilenda, Jim Pirolli, Harry Niemann, Amy Drobile, Vince Market, Richard Niwinski, Ed Zapiesek, Ed Silverthorn, Mark Lynch, Chuck Webster, Tony Pontarelli, Sal Forgione, and Barbara Rogowski. I also thank Joe Kempter, who recently retired from the council. If you have a financial background and would like to serve on the Parish Finance Council, please contact me at 215-357-5720. May God Bless you, and have a happy summer!

Scripture Readings Fieenth Sunday in Ordinary Time July 14, 2019 Deuteronomy 30: 10-14 Psalm 69 or Psalm 19 Colossians 1: 15-20 Luke 10: 25-37 We will hear the familiar story of the Good Samaritan. In the first reading, we learn that God’s command is already in our hearts—we have only to carry it out. At the end of the story of the Good Samaritan, Jesus says that we are to “Go and do likewise.” As you listen to God’s word today, try to hear what God has writ-ten in your heart, and allow God to help you know how to carry it out.
Church Safety Committee As mentioned in Monsignor’s past column, with the advice of the Parish Pastoral Council, a special committee is being formed of active and currently inactive police, fire, safety and military personnel, to recommend a plan for the well being of our congregation in the event of danger from an intruder. If you would like to be a part of this committee, or to find out what it entails, kindly contact Father O’Donald at 215-357-5720 or [email protected].

2019 Padre Pio Festival / Picnic Sponsors We have begun to put together the plans for the 2019 Padre Pio Festival / Parish Picnic. Corporate sponsorship in 2018 was an integral part in helping to defray expenses and contributed to the overall success of the weekend. We also realized that corpo-rate donations don’t just happen, they must be planned and budgeted by the donors. To that end we are now approaching corporations in our area with our sponsorship information to allow them the necessary time to consider our request.
Committed Sponsors Include:
(Gold Sponsors) Kampus Klothes
(Silver Sponsors) Kennedy Automotive Group
Joe Saracino State Farm Insurance Colonial Nissan
Trinity IT (Tom & Chris Buck) Dr. Carl Kaschak, DMD
Gold Sponsors have donated $1,000 or more. Silver Sponsors have donated
$500-$999. Sponsors will have the opportunity to donate toward specific
events.
Sponsors are still welcome! If you work for or know of a company in our area or if you
yourself are interested in becoming a sponsor, please contact us so we can present a Sponsorship Packet that explains the sponsorship programs for 2019. Please feel free to contact Jim Fitzgerald at (215) 355-6096 ( [email protected]) or Barb Rogowski at (215) 357-5720 ( [email protected]).

Cornerstone for Life US Bishops Respond to Equality Act
WASHINGTON— Five chairmen of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) have responded to the U.S. House of Representatives’ passage of the Equality Act (H.R. 5). The Act would add the new terms “sexual orientation” and “gender identity,” as well as “pregnancy […] or a related medical con-dition,” to the definition of “sex” in federal civil rights laws; expand the types of entities covered under those laws; and ex-empt itself from the Religious Freedom Restoration Act of 1993. Upon the bill’s passage by 236 to 173 in the House, the bishops said: “Our faith calls us to uphold every individual’s dignity and rights against unjust discrimination – including in employment, housing, and services – regardless of characteristics or back-ground. Rather than offering meaningful protections for indi-viduals, the Equality Act would impose sweeping new norms that negatively impact the unborn, health care, charitable ser-vices, schools, personal privacy, athletics, free speech, religious liberties, and parental rights. The Act’s unsound definitions of ‘sex’ and ’gender identity’ would erase women’s distinct, hard-won recognition in federal laws. Its sex-based nondiscrimina-tion terms would end women’s shelters and many single-sex schools. It would close faith-based foster care and adoption agencies that honor children’s rights to a mother and father. The bill would even act as an abortion mandate. We must pur-sue justice and equality for anyone denied it; but this is a re-grettable approach. We are gravely disappointed with the Act’s passage in the U.S. House.” The statement was jointly issued by Archbishop Joseph F. Naumann of Kansas City, chairman of the Committee on Pro-Life Activities; Bishop Frank J. Dewane of Venice, chairman of the Committee on Domestic Justice and Human Develop-ment; Bishop Michael C. Barber of Oakland, chairman of the Committee on Catholic Education; Archbishop Joseph E. Kurtz of Louisville, chairman of the Committee for Religious Liberty; and Bishop James D. Conley of Lincoln, chairman of the Sub-committee for the Promotion and Defense of Marriage; some of whom had sent or cosigned letters to Members of Congress in opposition to the Equality Act in the months leading up to the vote.
