My Dear Parishioners,
Today we celebrate the Epiphany of Our Lord. What we commemorate on this solemnity, often nicknamed "Little Christmas" is the revelation, or “epiphany”, of the Savior of the world to the Gentiles. Mary and Joseph and the shepherds and eventually their neighbors were the first to look on the face of God in Jesus but they were all Jewish by religion and culture. When the three Magi, accom-
panied by their band of travelers, came to the place where the child was, they were the first Gentiles, or non-Jewish peoples, to behold Him. Thus, to Mary and Joseph and all the world came the revelation that God had sent his Son for all humanity.
The fascinating aspect of this account is the fact that the Magi were lead there by a star; but beyond that, they were also seeking for something or they would have never left their homes. The Catechism of the Catholic Church says: "the desire for God is written in the human heart because man is created by God and for God and God never ceases to draw man to himself."
Sometimes we search in other places for God, in earthly pursuits, but only in God do our hearts find ultimate joy. When we find God we are to share Him and be a star calling others to find what we have found. In these remaining hours of the Christmas Season (which ends next Sunday with the Baptism of our Lord), let us consider how we can allow our good example to shine so that, like a star , we can br ing others to Christ.
This can happen through our courageous testimony or by simply inviting someone to Mass or an event at our parish. Never underesti-mate your power to influence. Like the Magi, it is through your "starry light" that you will help others recognize what they have been looking for.
Today at 11:00am Mass we welcome Keith Crosier and Emma Van Zeumeren, who have been a par t of our RCIA journey of faith. Both baptized in the Christian denomination, they are seeking Christ now through full initiation into the Catholic Church. Please pray for them as we welcome them to the journey. Also today, Sunday January 5, our parish plays host to one of the 12 Holy Hours for Vocations taking place throughout the Archdio-cese. We hear there are 80 seminarians studying to become priests in the Archdiocese. That encouraging. Come to the Holy Hour at 1:30pm and pray for them and that many others may follow the star leading them to become priests of Jesus Christ.
May God Bless You,
A Message From Your Pastor

Scripture Readings for Next Sunday The Baptism of the Lord January 12, 2020 Isaiah 42: 1-4, 6-7 Psalm 29: 1-4, 3, 9-10 Acts 10: 34-38 Matthew 3: 13-17 On this last Sunday of Christmas Time, the Jesus we encounter in the Gospel is no longer an infant. Yet the heav-enly revelations continue. As Jesus is baptized, God’s voice is heard, proclaiming this Jesus to be God’s Son. And Isaiah tells us just who this Son of God is: neither breaking a bruised need nor quenching a smoldering wick, He is com-passion personified. How does Jesus come into your life, opening your eyes, bringing you out of confinement?

Dear Parishioners, Today, during the 11:00 a.m. Sunday Mass, we will celebrate The Rite of Welcoming of Candidates. This r ite makes the persons involved (Keith Crosier and Emma Van Zeumeren ) official members of the Church preparing to complete their initiation within the Catholic community. God works in many different ways. Most of the time, God works through ordinary people and events - a parent, a friend, a beautiful sunset, a song, an inspiring story. Other times, we hear God's call during crisis moments or major life changes - a birth, an engagement, a sickness, a death. Sometimes, we just have a feeling something is missing. No matter what a person's reasons are for becoming Catho-lic, the Church's hope and prayer is that when God calls them, they will respond. We have two adults who have responded to God's call. To enter into Christ and His Church means entering into His dying and rising, for He said, "Whoever wishes to come after me must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me" (Mark 8:34). Those who answer God's call will need to learn how to let go and die to their old ways of life, and this will often be painful and difficult. But the cross is also the sign of our salva-tion. So, in the Rite of Welcoming, the Church consecrates - sets apart and makes holy - those who are committing themselves to following Christ by signing their bodies with the cross. Where we encounter Christ and His love most clearly is in the assembly of the Church. When God's people gather on Sunday to proclaim the Scriptures, offer prayers for the world, and remember Christ in the sharing of a sacrificial meal - the Eucharist - Christ is substantially present. Therefore, you are very important in this rite, for it is the whole community that is welcoming them, sharing our Catholic faith with them, and walking in the faith journey together in the days and years ahead. Let us remember to pray for them on their journey.
God Bless, Carole Obrokta-Director of Religious Education 215-357-2130 / www.stbedeore.org
