FOURTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME (Year C Readings #692) As we gather today at the invitation of our Lord God, we will hear about the prophet Jeremiah and Jesus the prophet without honor in his native land. A prophet in the Bible is not a fortune-teller who can see into the future. A biblical prophet is a truth-teller, a messenger of God. It might be good for us today to think of and pray for the prophets whom we know, those in our own lives and those about whom we have heard. Let us thank God for these prophets today.

ADULT FAITH FORMATION — LENT 2016

THE CHURCH’S TEACHING ON THE MERCY OF GOD

Come and rediscover the mystery of divine mercy that guides the Church’s teaching on the mystery of God, who is love. St. Bernadette Parish will offer an adult faith formation series this lent that will focus on the divine mercy,

during this special year devoted to a deeper experience of the mercy of God by Pope Francis. Father John Crowley will lead three nights of catechesis and faith sharing on March 2, 9 and 16, the first three Wednesdays of March 2016, at 7:00pm in the Wright Center. The mercy of God forms the foundation of the Gospel of Christ and is something experienced by all of humanity from the very beginning of Creation, especially in salvation history by Israel and the Church. God continually forgives us of our sins and enables us to forgive one another through the grace we experience from the merciful God, who is love. Look for more information on this adult faith formation series in the parish bulletin and on the parish website during the months of February and March.

(a) Weekly target necessary to fund Parish operating expenses and avoid operating deficit. As followers of Christ Jesus, we are reminded that all things including life itself are a gift from God. What matters to God is not the gift, but the giver. Giving is God’s invitation to a way of life. It helps us to overcome our selfishness and love of things. What we do with what we have been given is a sign to God and to the world of the depth and meaning of our commitment. By recalling that all is gift, we therefore must strive to be generous with the financial gifts, both great and small, that God has be-stowed upon us. Thank you for your support and your generosity to God and to St. Bernadette Parish. St. Bernadette Parish has enlisted Parish Giving to provide its parishioners and supporters with the opportunity to use Electronic Funds Transfer as an alternative method for giving. The Program is free of charge for parishioners. More information about Parish Giving is available on our Parish web site: www.stbl.org on the “Parish Giving” page.

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS The Knights of Columbus is the largest Catholic

Lay organization in the world. The Knights are

committed to exemplifying the virtues of charity,

unity, fraternity and patriotism. Ave Ma-

ria Council #4063 is re-forming under new leadership and with

new members at St. Bernadette's and is committed to directly

supporting this parish and its pastor. If you are a Catholic man

at least 18 years old and are interested in joining the Knights of

Columbus, please plan on attending an information meeting on

Monday, March 14 at 7:00pm in the Wright Center (1st floor)

or contact Chris Onesti at [email protected] or call him

at (856) 562- 2779.

YOUTH MASSES In the Spirit of Pope Francis’ message to

encourage our youth, St. Bernadette Par-

ish will have Youth Masses throughout

the year. Our goal is to have students and

families from our entire parish worship

and share time together. All grades will be assigned a date and

students in those grades will be lectors and gift bearers. After

each Mass, there will be a small social in the hall for all fami-

lies. Check the schedule and mark your calendars! Details will

be sent to each grade as needed through school and CCD. Each

Youth Mass will be part of the Parish 11:00am Mass. Please

contact Marykate Murphy ([email protected]) or Ciaran Bell-

woar ([email protected]) with any questions.

FAMILY LITURGY OF THE WORD

St. Bernadette offers a simple way for families to

discuss the weekly Gospel together. The Rite of

Baptism tells us “Parents are the first teachers in

the ways of faith. May they be the best of teach-

ers bearing witness to the faith in all they say and do.” We are

happy to answer the call of Pope Francis “to support our fami-

lies as the first teachers of the faith” and introduce the “Family

Liturgy of the Word.” Each week, at the entrances of Church,

there will be handouts with the next week’s Gospel and a sim-

ple activity. You are encouraged to take as many handouts as

needed for your family. Families can read, discuss, and pray

over the coming week’s Gospel. Our hope is that when the

Gospel is proclaimed at Mass, our younger members will be

more familiar with the stories because it has been discussed in

the family during the week. Thank you, in advance, for your

help in this new family ministry.

THE BEAUTY OF HIS MERCY: REFLECTIONS ON THE PASSION

OF GOD FOR MAN Please join us on Tuesday, February 9 at 7:00pm in church for an evening of re-flection on the beauty of creation, and of God's plan of redemption through the great works of artists throughout the centuries. Discover how God in Christ

can turn the broken path of sin and failure into the Way of Beauty.

"The beautiful wounds... this is exactly how it summons man to his final destiny."

Pope Benedict XVI Learn more about international speaker and teacher Bill Donaghy of the Theology of the Body Institute at

"We, the women and men of the Church, we are in the middle of a love story: each of us is a link in this chain

of love. And if we do not understand this, we have understood nothing of what the Church is…."
