ST. JOSEPH REOPENING

We are celebrating, with limited attendees, a daily mass on Monday to Friday mornings at 8:30 AM at St. Joseph Church. We will be offering two Sunday masses with limited attendees at 8:00 AM and 11:00 AM at St. Joseph Church. “Reservations” will be required for the Sunday masses. A reservation may only be obtained by calling the parish office (302-378-5800) the Monday through Thursday prior to the next Sunday mass between 2:00 PM and 3:00 PM only. You may request a reservation for a single person or for a “family unit” of multiple persons living together in a common residence. Reservations are not required for week day masses. We have posted on line a short you tube video which explains the new procedures and restrictions for attending reopening masses at St. Joseph Church. We ask that you go to our website and hit the “click on” button for our live streamed masses which will bring you to our YouTube site; click on “videos”. There you will find the video titled: “Msgr. David Kelley: Reopening Procedures for Mass.” Please watch the video from beginning to end. Bishop Malooly’s suspension of the obligation to attend Sunday mass is still in effect for all persons no matter their age. We will be continuing to live stream both our daily masses and Saturday evening mass as we have been since Holy Week. The Bishop particularly would ask those over 6o years old to carefully consider whether they should be coming back to church, especially those with underlying conditions. Several regulations that anyone planning to come to St. Joseph’s for mass at this time needs to consider are:

All persons over two years must wear a mask from when they enter the church until they exit the church. All persons regardless of age must remain in their assigned seat during the mass; if a person leaves their seat during mass they will be directed to leave the building. The restrooms will be unavailable before, during, and after every mass due to difficulties meeting the sanitizing and social distancing requirements. The gathering space will be unavailable to all persons during the mass. You should arrive for mass 30 to 45 minutes before the scheduled starting time of mass.

All are expected to abide by the above regulations for the health and safety of others in attendance. As we become more accustomed to our new procedures, we hope to be able to increase the number of persons we will be able to accommodate in the church for each of the Sunday masses. We here at St. Joseph’s are looking forward to having you with us in person as you are wanting to “come home” to your church!

Take care and stay healthy, Msgr. David Kelley

The Word in Our Lives Readings for June 28, 2020

13th Sunday of Ordinary Time

First Reading: 2 Kings 4:8-11, 14-16a One day Elisha came to Shunem, where there was a woman of influence, who urged him to dine with her. Afterward, whenever he passed by, he used to stop there to dine. So she said to her husband, “I know that Elisha is a holy man of God. Since he visits us often, let us arrange a little room on the roof and furnish it for him with a bed, table, chair, and lamp, so that when he comes to us he can stay there.” Sometime later Elisha arrived and stayed in the room overnight. Later Elisha asked, “Can something be done for her?” His servant Gehazi answered, “Yes! She has no son, and her husband is getting on in years.” Elisha said, “Call her.” When the woman had been called and stood at the door, Elisha promised, “This time next year you will be fondling a baby son.” Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 89:2-3, 16-17, 18-19 Second Reading: Romans 6:3-4, 8-11 Brothers and sisters: Are you unaware that we who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were indeed buried with him through baptism into death, so that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might live in newness of life. If, then, we have died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him. We know that Christ, raised from the dead, dies no more; death no longer has power over him. As to his death, he died to sin once and for all; as to his life, he lives for God. Consequently, you too must think of yourselves as dead to sin and living for God in Christ Jesus. Gospel: Matthew 10:37-42 Jesus said to his apostles: “Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me, and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me; and whoever does not take up his cross and follow after me is not worthy of me. Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. "Whoever receives you receives me, and whoever receives me receives the one who sent me. Whoever receives a prophet because he is a prophet will receive a prophet’s reward, and whoever receives a righteous man because he is a righteous man will receive a righteous man’s reward. And whoever gives only a cup of cold water to one of these little ones to drink because the little one is a disciple— amen, I say to you, he will surely not lose his reward.”

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION AND SACRAMENT PREPARATION NEWS!

Registration forms for Religious Education and the sacraments of Reconciliation, First Eucharist and Confirmation will be available on the parish website, www.stjosephmiddletown.com on Monday, March 2nd. Religious Education registrations are accepted from registered parishioners on a first-come, first-served basis until August 31, 2020. No registrations will be accepted after August 31, 2020, except from families that are relocating to our parish, moving from their existing religious education program to our program. In order to ensure both the accuracy of our records and the safety of our students, we will be unable to process any registration that does not include all required information, payment, and/or documentation. Incomplete registrations will be returned. If your child has completed grade one, either in our Religious Education program or in Catholic school, and is enrolling in grade two, you must complete a separate form to register for the sacramental preparation program for Reconciliation and Eucharist. This is a separate process from Religious Education class registration and has a separate schedule and fee. The Confirmation preparation program also has a separate registration form, schedule and fee. In conjunction with the Diocese, we also offer a Special Needs Religious Education program. Contact the Religious Education Office at 302.378.5800, ext. 107 for further information. St. Joseph Parish has one of the largest Religious Education programs in our diocese. We are always in need of volunteers and gratefully welcome those that are willing to share their time, talent and faith. We look forward to working with you and your family.

MARRIAGE MOMENTS Married love is both physical and emotional. Attraction often starts with the physical and then grows as we develop emotional bonds.

PARENTING POINTERS What is a hidden, quiet talent of your own Father? Mothers, ask your child what ability their father has that is not commonly known. Suggest your child share it.

Reopening St. Joseph church is being done cautiously. Please check guidance on St. Joseph home web page for current guidance.

Be ready to say, “Yes” if asked to help and you are able.

Continue Rosaries and appropriate Novenas to bring about a return to normal and peace in our land.

Thanks to all who have attended our virtual business meetings! Look for announcements.

Want to join our Council? Contact any Brother Knight or Marty Brett at [email protected].

TRUE PRESENCE PRESENTATION Adult Faith Formation will give a 3 part series on THE TRUE PRESENCE in the Eucharist. Postponed for now, and will resume when activities resume to normal.

WEDNESDAY MORNING BIBLE STUDY—POSTPONED

The Wednesday Morning Bible Study meets weekly at 9:30 am in the Parish Center. Come join us as we discuss the readings for the upcoming Sundays. Any questions, please call 302-378-5800.

DID YOU KNOW... Scripture says, “The heavens declare the glory of God?” [Psalm 19: 2a] The Psalmist goes on to say day after day speech pours forth and night whispers knowledge. Yet, there is no speech, no voice is heard. How can this be? Is this some kind of spiritual symbolism? Or does the magnificence of the visual universe speak silently of the wonder of God’s creativity? Most people do not get to view the splendor of distant and vast galaxies, colorful nebulae, and exploding or collapsing stars. But there is a way to gaze upon these visual masterpieces. NASA provides the possibility at apod.nasa.gov. It is the Astronomy Picture of the Day. The profound beauty of The Creator is viewable in the colorful display of astronomical wonders, a new one each day. What are they saying? Without words they declare the extravagance of Divine Creativity. Check it out for yourself. When you do, offer a prayer of thanksgiving with this visual feast and allow yourself to enter into the “deep space” of the mystery of God.
