CHRISTMAS OUTREACH 2020 ST. PAUL GIVING TREE - WRAP-UP

THANK YOU to our wonderful parishioners who gave so generously to the 2020 Giving Tree Program! Despite the pandemic, we collected hundreds of gift cards and gifts which will ensure many families will have food and gifts they otherwise might not have received. Truly this is the spirit of Christmas! Our agency contacts extend their prayerful gratitude for the thoughtfulness and generosity shown by the SJSP Collaborative. Thank you for making this beautiful tradition possible during such a difficult year.

ST. JOHN CHRISTMAS WISH LETTER Dear Christmas Wish sponsors and donors,

2020 has certainly been a year to remember. The families that we sup-port through our Christmas Wish outreach program needed our help more than ever this year. Many of the children in our program would not see a gift under the tree were it not for your wonderful generosity.

In the words of one of our parish coordinators, "the generous donation of food cards is the most essential gift we can share with our families! It is life sustaining!"

Thanks to the amazing response to our Christmas Wish 2020 appeal, we were able to support over 300 children and their families in Wellesley, Roxbury, Brockton and Lowell. We were also able to give Julie's Family Learning Centre a substantial number of food cards. Your generosity enabled us to significantly increase the number of food and clothing gift cards for each family during these challenging times.

This program is only possible because of the incredible generosity of our parishioners who donate gifts, money and time to us each year. It takes a village to make this pro-gram work. We are beyond grateful for your continued support during these truly challenging times that we live in.

We wish your families a happy and healthy Christmas Season.

With deepest gratitude, The Christmas Wish Team.

Saint John School faculty and staff wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

We are so grateful for your support, kindness, and commitment to SJS. Hoping your holidays are filled

    with love, family, and happiness!

The Work of Christmasby Howard Thurman

When the song of angels is stilled when the star in the sky is gone

when the kings and the princes are home, when the shepherds are back with their flocks,

the work of Christmas begins: to find the lost

to heal the broken to feed the hungry

to release the prisoner to rebuild the nations,

to bring peace among the people, to make music in the heart.

WAYS TO DONATE TO YOUR PARISH CASH or CHECK – You may donate cash or checks at Mass by placing your contribution in the labelled boxes. You may also mail your contribution, or drop it through the mail slot at either the St. John Parish Center or the St. Paul Office.ONLINE GIVING – To set up online giving, using either your personal credit card or as a debit to your bank account, please visit sjspwellesley.org, scroll down the page, and click either on the “Give to St. John” box or the “Give to St. Paul” box. Please note that the parish is charged a fee by our third-party vendor for this service. ONLINE BILL PAY – You may choose to have your account debited by your bank, and not utilize our third-party vendor. Please contact your bank directly to set up automatic bill pay to either St. Paul Parish or to St. John the Evangelist Parish. The parish is not charged a fee for this transaction. SECURITIES – Gifts of securities are processed by the Archdiocese of Boston (RCAB). Upon receiving donated securities, RCAB contacts its broker to sell the donated shares at current market value, and remits the proceeds to the appropriate parish. Directions for making either a physical or electronic gift of securities is found at bostoncatholic.org/stock-or-mutual-fund-donations. By making a gift of appreciated securities, you can avoid paying the capital gains tax that would otherwise be due if you sold the assets yourself. DONOR ADVISED FUNDS – Please direct your fund administrator to make the check out to either “St. John the Evangelist Parish” (tax id #04-2109875) or to “St. Paul Par-ish” (tax id #04-2106358). IRA CHARITABLE ROLLOVER – If you are 70 ½ years old or older, you can give any amount up to $100,000 per year from your IRA directly to a qualified institution (such as St. Paul or St. John) without having to pay income tax on the money. The transfer generates neither taxable income nor a tax deduction, so that you benefit even if you do not itemize your deductions. IF you turned 70 ½ on or after January 1, 2020, you can use your gift to satisfy all or part of your re-quired minimum distribution starting at the age of 72. (Note: The RMD requirement has been waived for 2020, per CARES Act signed into law on March 27, 2020). MATCHING GIFTS – Some employers provide matching gifts that can double or even triple the value of a gift. You should inquire of your Human Resources department as to whether they will match gifts to religious organizations. If your company will match gifts to a parish, email the matching gift form to [email protected] or mail it to Jackie Welham at 39 Washington St., Wellesley, MA 02481.

For questions, please contact Jackie Welham, Director of Finance and Operations at [email protected]. Please note that St. Paul Parish and St. John the Evangelist Parish do not provide tax advice. You should contact your personal tax advisor to deter-mine which form of gift is best for your particular circumstances.

    Thank you for your support!

CARING FOR OUR COMMON HOME, LAUDATO SI`

Human beings, while capable of the worst, are also capable of rising above themselves, choos-ing again what is good, and making a new start. (LS #205)

It’s that time of year again…time to make a new start, time for New Year’s resolutions. How will you change your behavior this year for the good of your-self, your family and the common good? Pope Francis, through his encyclical Laudato Si’, has been asking all of us throughout the world to make caring for each other and caring for our common home a priority. While this task may feel a bit over-whelming, you can make a difference by starting small. Whether its thinking globally and acting locally or assessing your carbon footprint, we all can work together for the good of each other and the planet. Use the link below to check out the Laudato Si’ page on the SJSP website for more ideas from Pope Francis on how we can all pitch in and do our part to care for our common home. Happy New Year! www.sjspwellesley.org/faith-enrichment/laudato-si/
