LOTS: LIVES OF THE SAINTS Blessed Anthony Turner
There is no birth record reflecting the exact time in the 15th Century when Anthony Turner was born in Leicestershire, England to a Protestant minister. College records reflect, however, that he converted to Catholicism following his graduation from Cambridge University because he wanted to become a priest. He joined the Jesuits at age twenty-four and was ordained in 1661.
After working in the English mission for over eighteen years, Anthony was accused of being part of a plot to kill King Charles the II. People in all the region knew this was a cruel lie, conceived by none other than the notorious Titus Oates, also known as Titus the Liar, who invented the “Popish Plot,” a supposedly Catholic conspiracy to assassinate the King.
Nonetheless, Anthony was charged and convicted. At his trial, no Catholic witnesses could speak on his behalf. The rulers hung Blessed Anthony on June 20, 1679 and cut up his remains. His beatification occurred in 1929.
SUMMER EVENING

Sessions: Thursdays, 7pm - July 11 through August 22 Location: St. John the Evangelist Parish, Powers Hall
MEN’S GROUP The final meeting of the Collaborative Men's Group before the summer will take place on Wednesday, June 26 from 7:30 to 8:30pm in the St. Paul Parish Hall.
We continue with How the Irish Saved Civilization: the Untold Story of Ireland's
Heroic Role from the Fall of Rome to the Rise of Medieval Europe by Thomas Cahill. We continue with Chapter III ("A Shifting World of Darkness: Unholy Ireland"). All men of the Collaborative are cordially invited to attend.
