Twenty-First Sunday in Ordinary Time

First Reading: Isaiah 66:18-21

Second Reading: Hebrews 12:5-7, 11-13

Gospel: Luke 13:22-30

Today we are given fair warning by Jesus that we should strive earnestly to enter the kingdom of

God, and not simply assume a place will be reserved for us. So let’s make an effort, as we

travel the path of discipleship, to travel lightly, unencumbered by unnecessary attachments

to the things of this world.

The Power of Prayer My wife Evie and I were recently told the following by a dearly beloved friend.

Decades ago, a mother of three small children, she was deserted by her husband. No financial assistance was provided by him. Shortly after she was abandoned by him, she discovered that she was again pregnant. Being destitute and desperate, she concluded that the only hope she had to provide for her three children was to abort the fourth. Her mother begged her not to. In fact, her mother accompanied her to the abortion clinic on the appointed day, remaining outside, praying the rosary to our Blessed Mother. Inside the abortion clinic our friend took her place on the table awaiting the procedure. Her thoughts were of her mother fervently praying the rosary outside and of her child about to be slain. She decided not to go through with the abortion, got off the table, dressed, left the abortion clinic and gave birth to her child. Not long ago this child, whose life she spared, presented her with a grandchild. True story. Real people. Who amongst us has not sometimes doubted, feared that our prayers were not heard? May our Lord grant us all Right Faith and Firm Hope. Please keep praying for the unborn. Latest statistics for the number of abortions completed at Kentucky’s only abortion facility, The EMW Woman’s Surgical Center, in Louisville as published by Kentucky Right to Life (www.krtl.org): Total abortions for last month: 317 Total abortions for 2019: 2414 Clarity Solutions and the growing number of organizations like it, offer Hope and a pathway to Life to sometimes desperate, fearful parents-to-be. Please give a bit of your time, talent and/or treasure to them. Good will come of it. -Thank you. Upcoming local events: The Clarity Solutions Walk For Life 2019 will take place on Saturday, September 14th, 9 am at John Hardin High School. The Walk will be the subject of next week’s column. The Kentucky Right to Life Association’s Annual Fall Conference will be held in Elizabethtown again this year, at The Red Lion Inn on September 28th. Details forthcoming.
