She founded the Sisters of the Sacred Heart, and served for 28 years in the Americas. Mother Cabrini established some 67 schools, hospitals and orphanages. She died on December 22, 1917, in Chicago, and was canonized in 1946, the first US citizen to be canonized. She is the patroness of all immigrants and migrants. LOS POBRES Como cristianos, sabemos mucho sobre el testimonio y el servicio que estamos llamados a prestar a los pobres entre nosotros. Sin embargo, los pobres t a m b i é n t i e n e n u n testimonio y un servicio que prestarnos. Al igual que las acciones de la viuda en el Evangelio de hoy, la apertura y la generosidad de muchos de los que son pobres, aun en medio de su propia pobreza, dan testimonio del hecho de que, en definitiva, podemos depender solo de Dios. Si damos todo es un testimonio de que Dios dará todo a cualquier persona que confíe en la bondad divina. Los pobres o desfavorecidos también prestan servicios. Pasan juicio a nuestra manera individual y corporativa de actuar. Si personas que están durmiendo en la calle, eso es un juicio sobre las prioridades respecto a los demás. Al mismo tiempo, los pobres pueden actuar como mediadores de la salvación. Cuando cuidan a los demás pueden redimir nuestra indiferencia e insensibilidad, llevarnos a ser cuidadosos también, y a salvarnos de nosotros mismos.

DIOS CON NOSOTROS Antes de regresar a la derecha del Padre, Jesús prometió estar con sus discípulos siempre. Esta es una promesa que Él ha mantenido de diversas maneras, estando con nosotros por su Espíritu, por su palabra, en nuestro corazón. Pero Jesús también desea estar con sus siervos de una manera física y real, es por eso que en su Última Cena tomó pan y vino consagrándolos como su cuerpo y sangre. La Eucaristía que Jesús inauguró el Jueves Santo continúa consagrándose día tras día en las manos de sacerdotes santos y ni tan santos. No es la dignidad del cura que importa sino, la generosidad de Cristo que desea estar con sus fieles. Uno de estos fieles, el joven uruguayo Walter Elías Chango Rondeau, (1921-1939) en sus pocos años de vida encontró consuelo en el hecho de que Dios se entrega a sí mismo en la comunión. Según testigos, Walter animaba a sus compañeros a la reconciliación y la Eucaristía. Hablaba tan elocuentemente del Santísimo Sacramento, que parecía sacerdote. Siendo laico, él supo ejercer su sacerdocio bautismal.

El Día de Acción de Gracias suele celebrarse el cuarto jueves del mes de Noviembre y se relaciona con una reunión familiar y de amigos en torno a una mesa donde no puede faltar el pavo y el pastel de calabaza. Pero ¿Cuál es la historia del Primer Acción de Gracias?

Fue el 5 de Agosto de 1620 cuando un grupo de peregrinos salía desde Southampton en Inglaterra en el Mayfower en dirección hacia América. Ellos buscaban una nueva vida en un nuevo lugar que les permitiese poder practicar su religión, el puritanismo, en paz. Desembarcaron y se asentaron en la costa noreste de Norteamerica fundando su nuevo hogar, Plymouth. La vida era dura en la zona y pronto empezó a faltar la comida. Muchos enfermaron y murieron lo que llevó a los nativos americanos a ayudarlos. En Noviembre de 1621 los peregrinos tenían hogar y comida y todo gracias a los nativos americanos. Para agradecérselo los invitaron a cenar. Esta cena duró tres días convirtiéndose en el primer Acción de Gracias.
