Dear Parishioners,

A few weeks ago we watched the video of Bishop Hartmayer speaking about his annual appeal for financial help in the

work of the Church in the Diocese of Savannah. He mentioned some of the different ministries and work that the

Diocese does throughout South Georgia.

Although there are many things that the Bishop’s Annual Appeal helps out with, one of those things is education for our

future priests. All of our seminarians from our Diocese rely upon the generosity of the Bishop’s Annual Appeal in order

to become priests. You may not know it, but if you contributed to the Bishop’s Annual Appeal ten years ago, you were

helping to pay for me to become a priest. If you contributed five years ago, you were helping to pay for Fr. Wright to be-

come a priest. Before I became a seminarian, I asked the Vocations Director, Fr. Brett Brannen, if I would have to pay for

all of my education to become a priest and he told me that the Bishop and the Diocese would pay the cost, provided I was

going to be a priest of the Diocese of Savannah. I was very surprised and very humbled. At the time I attended seminary

it cost approximately $30,000 dollars for me to study for one year, which was the same as many regular colleges. I could

never have afforded that cost on my own and I went to school for six years. In addition, I spent summers in parishes and

a summer in Mexico studying Spanish. We parishioners of our Diocese are the ones who give money to the Bishop every

year for these costs and other important works that our Diocese does. Since the time I went to seminary, the cost for a

year has climbed to around $50,000 dollars and this year we are on track to have 20 or more seminarians studying for

the priesthood. It is because of the Bishop’s Annual Appeal and your generosity that Fr. Wright and I are priests serving

St. Joseph Church and the city of Macon and we thank you for that. I hope in the future that our church can send more

young men to become priests for our Diocese and I pray that our generosity can continue to make that possible.

Thank you in advance for your support and generosity. God bless you.

Fr. Winchel

Saint Joseph’s Catholic School

3K Students at SJS are Excited to Learn, Pray, Grow and Play!

St. Joseph’s Catholic School proudly opened its 3K program in August 2016! This

unique program allows our youngest students to learn, pray, grow, and play in a

caring, Catholic environment while participating in group instruction, learning

centers, and enrichment classes such as art, library, music, physical education,

and Spanish. By offering both half and full-day options for students with the

additional benefit of afternoon extended care until 6:00 p.m. if needed, the

program aims to accommodate the varied and busy schedules of today’s families. During these early years, children shape their basic values while learning about

God’s world, themselves, and others. With this in mind, lots of prayer, love, and

time went into preparation for this program as we endeavored to make it some-

thing truly special for the children who attend. We enjoy seeing our preschoolers

as they grow spiritually, mentally, and physically while also preparing them for

4K/5K readiness and the continuation of their Catholic education.

"rosarium", meaning a bouquet or garland of roses. On Palm

will pray the Mysteria Dolorosa (Sorrowful Mysteries) of the

Latin Rosary for the protection of life. Illustrated booklets will
