SAINT JOSEPH PARISH WAKEFIELD MA
PASTOR’S LETTER Dear Parishioners, We all have different images of God. This reflection from the Word Among Us may be helpful.
God is on our side. He sent Jesus to become one of us so that we could spend eternity with Him. He has given us the grace of the Holy Spirit so that we can live a life pleasing to Him. These are such comforting truths, and yet we can sometimes lose sight of them. We can end up thinking, acting, and praying as if God has destined us for wrath and not for salvation.
How? By failing to remember God’s true character. Even when we aren’t fully aware of it, we might sometimes imagine God as a severe judge who is in the business of condemning people. We hear a harsh voice in our heads saying, “You keep messing up-what’s wrong with you?” Or “I know you’re not really a good person; it’s just a façade.” And if we’re not careful, we mistake this for the voice of God.
But that’s not how God speaks to us! He’s not waiting to catch us at every turn so that he can tally up our mistakes. He is a loving Father who wants to relate to us as any good parent would-out of love, not fear. He isn’t condemning us; He’s rooting for us. He’s in the business of encouraging and building up, not tearing down.
And when we do “mess up,” our heavenly Father is waiting for us to come to Him so that He can cover us with His mercy. He isn’t out to punish us, He knows that the consequences of our sin-our distance from Him, any suffering or ill effects of our sin-are punishment enough. He doesn’t want to make us feel even worse. He knows all the times we try hard to follow Him. Instead, He opens His arms to receive us. He heals the pain brought about from our sins and gives us grace for the future.
Are there times you have struggled with that harsh voice in your head and think that’s how God sees you? Imagine the Father as He really is: the God who wraps His arms around you and says, “You are my precious child. I love you and I forgive you.”
For those of you that may not have seen my letter last week, I brought up the topic of tithing. Our parish has been very fortunate that through the generosity of you, the parishioners, we are able to pay our bills without the need for a grand annual collection. However, the finance council alerted me to the fact that our current income will no longer meet our expenses due to the rising cause of health and property insurance. Our current weekly offertory is $15,500 and the council forecasts an increased need for $16,000. If you currently tithe to the parish, please accept my gratitude. Because of you, I sleep well at night. If you are not currently tithing to support the parish, please consider doing so. God promises to bring abundant blessings in return. Just as important as tithing is, is the method in which you tithe. We

ONLINE GIVING Online giving is easy! You can use credit cards, debit cards, or your bank account and start or stop at any time. You can also include charities like St. Vincent de Paul, special collections, or St. Joseph School. Please visit: www.stjosephwakefield.org and click on GIVING or, for help with set up and management of online giving, contact Maureen Miller the parish accountant.
receive donations in two ways: via the collection basket and electronically. The greatest amount of financial support arrives physically through cash and checks. However, this method does not provide stable support. Physical donations are easily affected by weather and vacations. Two weekends of storms can prove financially devastating to the parish. Electronic giving ensures that the parish is stable and allows us to budget our finances. I hope you will consider it. If you have any questions, just call the rectory. I am available for confession this week on, Tuesday, September 14, 2021, from 12:30 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. and on Saturday, September 18, 2021, from 3:00 p.m. - 3:45 p.m. in the church or at any other time by appointment. May Jesus continue to shepherd you in all of your needs. God love you,

HEEDING THE WARNINGS When a pickpocket tried to pilfer my property while I was on vaca on in another country, it wasn’t a surprise. I’d read warnings about the danger of subway thieves, so I knew what to do to protect my wallet. But I never expected it to happen.
Fortunately, the young man who grabbed my wallet had slippery fingers, so it fell to the floor where I could retrieve it. But the incident reminded me that I should have heeded the warnings.
We don’t like to dwell on warnings because we think they’ll get in the way of enjoying life, but it’s impera ve to pay a en on to them. For instance, Jesus gave us a clear warning while sending out His disciples to proclaim God’s coming kingdom (MATTHEW 10:7). He said, “whoever acknowledges me before others, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven. But whoever disowns me before others, I will disown before my Father in heaven.” (VV.32-33).
We have a choice. In love, God provided a Savior and a plan for us to be in His presence for eternity. But if we turn away from God and choose to reject His message of salva on and the real life He offers for both now and forever, we lose out on the opportunity to be with Him.
May we trust in Jesus, the One who chose to save us from being eternally separated from the One who loves and made us.. DAVE BRANON

A mother went to wake her son for church one Sunday morning. When she knocked on his door, he said, "I'm not going!" "Why not?" asked his mother. "I'll give you two good reasons," he said. "One, they don't like me. Two, I don't like them." His mother replied, "I'll give you two good reasons why YOU WILL go to church. One, you're 47 years old. Two, you're the pastor!"
