Dear Parishioners,
The following was the front page news in last week’s Boston Globe:
Dublin - Ireland has become the first nation to approve same-sex marriage by a popular vote, sweeping aside the opposition of the Roman Catholic Church in a resounding victory Saturday for the gay rights movement and placing the country at the vanguard of social change. With the final ballots counted, the vote was 62 percent in favor of legalizing same-sex marriage, and 38 percent opposed.
How discouraging, depressing, and alarming in a spiritual perspective. The blindness of people as to how they are being seduced by the evil one. This all began with Adam and Eve with God telling them that if they were to eat from the tree of knowledge, they would die. The devil told them the opposite, that they would become gods. Well, the devil lied, God spoke the truth and death came into the world. At the time of Noah, people were living sinful lives, they were having a grand old time living in opposition to the laws of God. Well, the flood came to cleanse the earth. THE SEDUCTION OF THE EVIL ONE CONTINUES.
Concerning the abortion issue, we were told the woman has a right to choose. It is her body. Yes, a woman can choose to get pregnant (except the issue of rape) but it is another body she carries and she cannot decide for the death of that person. We are told in some circles that a fetus becomes human at a certain state. Really? If the man (human) provides the seed and the woman (human) provides the egg, isn’t it logical that the product of that union is human from the first moment of conception? Watch what happens when you leave it alone and let it grow. With the same sex marriage, the political correct language is that it is a civil right. The author (God) of marriage states that it is the union of man and woman and the act of intimacy is the language of oneness and open to procreation (be fruitful and multiply.)
Today many people only focus on the pleasure of the marital act and not the deeper meaning and language that it symbolizes. A vote for same sex marriage is not a vote for civil rights but a vote for sodomy and blatant rebellion against the law of God. It is not a sin to be homosexual as it is not a sin to be heterosexual. It is a sin if one engages in sexual activity outside the marriage state for both. There are many reasons one could bring forth for the condition that we are in. The following could be one of them: The Pew Research Center reported that Americans who described themselves as Christians dropped from 78 percent to 71 percent between 2007 and 2014 while the number of atheists, agnostics or those with no faith grew from 16 percent to 23 percent of those who still call themselves Christians, how many practice and know their faith? Thus, when we have voting on moral issues, who do you think will be the winners? Even though a majority pass immoral laws, God is still God and history has recorded Genesis to Revelation, a people living in darkness will suffer a consequence for their evil and are in danger if they do not repent will lose eternal life. We pray for God to have mercy on us and for us to wake up from our slumber and blindness to see that we are in a spiritual warfare and not to surrender and give up the fight. Let us stand boldly as disciples of the Lord Jesus.
Since some were away last holiday weekend, I wish to again thank all who gave cards, gifts, spirituals, and your presence on the occasion of my priesthood anniversary.
As a reminder, the monthly Healing Mass this Wednesday, June 3, starting with the recitation of the rosary at 7:00 p.m.
May Jesus continue to shepherd you in all of your needs.
God love you,

An Inquisitive Walk through the Scripture, 78 We recommend keeping these reflections in a three-ring binder for the sake of pondering, challenging, questioning what is offered. Please consider that this is a series and some things may not be as clear if all individual reflections are not read.
With the death of Moses, Joshua takes the lead in bringing the people of Israel into the Promised Land. It is good to note that the name Joshua is the same as the name Jesus and its meaning is “the Lord saves.” When Moses led the people through the Red Sea, the Lord had parted the waters so that the people of Israel walked through on dry land. (Ex. 15:21) Now with Joshua, it is time for the people to get their feet wet. “And when the soles of the feet of the priests who bear the ark of the Lord, the Lord of all the earth, shall rest in the waters of the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan shall be stopped from flowing, and the waters coming down from above shall stand in one heap.” (Josh. 3:13) Jesus walked on water and then later invited Peter to get his feet wet in the midst of a storm. (Mt. 14:22-33)
When the people of Israel had crossed the Jordan River, the Lord commanded that they collect twelve stones out of the Jordan as a memorial for the Lord stopping the flow of the Jordan for the Ark and the people to cross over into the Promised Land. Jesus accepted Peter’s willingness to walk on the water and later on, after Peter’s confession of faith and his being called “rock,” Jesus told him He would build His Church upon it/him (Mt. 16:18). St. Peter was able to understand the profound meaning of this and so he wrote to his fellow believers: “Come to Him, to that living stone, rejected by men but in God’s sight chosen and precious; and like living stones be yourselves built into a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.” (1 Pet. 2:4, 5) The memorial stones commemorating the crossing of the Jordan are symbols of the “living stones,” the believers who have followed Jesus/Yeshua into the Promised Land of the risen life which we are to share even now.
Of course, the Book of Joshua speaks of a lot of battles. All these times of conflict and war were understood by the early Church as symbols of the spiritual warfare that the Church and individual Christian are to wage. As often quoted, God said to St. Catherine of Sienna, “I created you without your aid but I cannot save you without your cooperation.” Unfortunately, we humans are remarkably superficial and so we end up fighting other humans instead of our own faults and we contend against flesh and blood instead of “against the principalities, against the powers, against the world rulers of this present darkness, against the spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.” (Ephs. 6:12)

Trinity Sunday falls one week after Pentecost Sunday, and it is the day that the Catholic Church has set aside to honor the most fundamental of Christian beliefs—the Holy Trinity.
To stress the doctrine of the Trinity, other Fathers of the Church, such as St. Ephrem the Syrian, composed prayers and hymns that were recited in the Church's liturgies and on Sundays as part of the Divine Office, the official prayer of the Church. Eventually, a special version of this office began to be celebrated on the Sunday after Pentecost, and the Church in England, at the request of St. Thomas à Becket (1118-1170), was granted permission to celebrate Trinity Sunday. The celebration of Trinity Sunday was made universal by Pope John XXII (1316-34). As Fr. John Hardon points out in his Modern Catholic Dictionary, the origins of the celebration of Trinity Sunday go all the way back to the Arian heresy of the fourth century. Arius believed that Christ was a created being, and in denying the divinity of Christ, he denied that there are three P e r s o n s i n G o d . A r i u s ' c h i e f opponent, Athanasius, upheld the orthodox doctrine that there are three Persons in one God, and the orthodox view prevailed at the Council of Nicaea, from which we get the Nicene Creed, recited in most Christian churches every Sunday. (Reichert)
