THE WEEK AHEAD
Help for New Parents Catholic Charities’ Pregnancy and Parenting Supportive Services program was awarded a grant through the Aurora Better Together Fund to offer in-home therapy for moms and dads who are expecting a child or have an infant in their home. The therapist assists clients who have a mental health diagno-sis or those who may be struggling with postpartum depression. The therapist works alongside the home visiting team that offers in-home education and support.

Second Sunday of Easter
Anthem, Allegiance, and Creed 1 John 5:1-6
When we sing the national anthem, recite the pledge of
allegiance, or fly the flag at home, we citizens perform an
action that expresses who we are and what we believe. We
don’t have to recite the entire constitution. It’s enough to
enact a smaller but central symbol of our country.
At church, we recite our creed every week. And on
Easter we renew our baptismal promises—which put the
creed in question and answer form. We don’t have to recite
the entire bible or the whole catechism. We say this smaller
text to express who we are and what we believe. It is a
symbol of our faith.
Easter is the season that renews our faith. Our central
belief is the resurrection of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.
When we hold fast to that faith, everything else falls in line.
John writes in his first letter, “Everyone who believes
that Jesus is the Christ is begotten by God.” Every Easter,
those who were catechumens preparing for this day profess
their belief in Jesus. In that faith they are baptized. They are
born again. They are begotten by God.
Our Easter faith will see us through bad times and add
meaning to our happy days. Jesus is the Christ, the anointed
one of God, the promised redeemer, and he is risen. He is
before noon on the Friday prior to the next weekend’s publication.

Spring Grounds Clean-Up
Please join your fellow parishioners for our Spring Campus Cleanup on Saturday, May 5th, from 8:00 until 10:00 AM. We will be cleaning up after our long winter. Please bring your own equipment like rakes and pruning shears. It is a great opportunity for

Healing Opportunities for Separated/Divorced New Horizons: Celebrating New Life after Divorce
The New Horizons weekend retreat is a one-
time opportunity for reflection, personal work,
and celebration to help people embark on a new
phase of life after divorce. The Weekend of
Healing is for men and women who are divorced
or separated with no chance of reconciliation. Those divorced
recently, or for years, will find the weekend rewarding. The
2018 dates for the New Horizon Retreats are: May 11-13 and
September 28-30.

Let's add some news about the roof: Reroofing of the church’s 26-year-old lower roof began on April 2nd. Part of the south parking lot is fenced off for construction activities, with a small number of parking places unavailable for a period of about two weeks.
Thank you to all who have contributed towards this important update of parish buildings through the Purple Envelope Campaign. Your continued support of this effort is important so that next year we can proceed with a replacement of the roof on the "old school" portion of our complex, which is also 26 years old.

Everyday Stewardship What do you own and what owns you? You can find this
question asked many times in several different contexts. Are
you looking to find some kind of financial freedom? How
about trying to live simply in a complex world? Has a
mountain of stuff invaded your home garage to the point
where parking a car inside is only a dream?
The early Church practiced a radical form of fellowship
called koinonia, which literally means "sharing in common."
Those who had homes and other major possessions would sell
them and then place the proceeds in the care of the Apostles to
be shared with the entire community. People focus mostly on
the fact that people sold all their possessions for the benefit of
the community. However the real point is the action that
occurred after every selling: the proceeds were given to the
Church authority, in essence, to God first. I wasn't just selling
my house and then giving the money to random people. My
offering was to God and it was for the Apostles (those who
personally encountered Jesus and now represented him on
earth) to decide how to divide up the wealth.
Why do such a thing? One could say it was so that no one
wanted for anything. If we push that thinking too far, as some
in history have done, we can create a system that takes from
some to give to others. Nothing was taken from anyone in that
first Christian community. It was freely given. And perhaps
the reason why people were moved to do so lies at the heart of
stewardship: because all we have already belongs to God
