OPŁATKI Polish, Slovak and Lithuanian background families have a Christmas tradition of breaking off a piece of opłatek (wafer) and sharing it with family and friends as an expression of blessing and forgiveness. Opłatki is available in the Narthex after Masses and at the Saint Kateri Parish Office. A donation to cover the cost of the opłatki would be greatly appreciated.

DECEMBER BLOOD DRIVE Our next blood drive is December 14th in the Church Meeting Room from 2-8pm. Sign-ups are after all Masses this weekend. Any questions, call Dusty Maiolo at 590-1601. Stu-dents in need of community service hours can email Mrs. Wendy Young at [email protected].

Both buses will leave St. Columba Church at 5 am after a 4:30 am Mass on January 27th. Reservations and payment are required by January 20th.

BONE MARROW REGISTRY DRIVE There will be a bone marrow drive on Dec 14 from 2-8pm in the meeting room. Those who are 18 - 45 years old may regis-ter. Monetary donations are also appreciated. It takes a swab of your cheek to get registered.

THE SILVER LININGS LEISURE CLUB The following activities should help to get us all in the mood for Christmas! Wednesday, December 14th, 21st, 28th: Senior Stretch, 9:45-10:30am in the St. Kateri Meeting Room. Thursday, December 15th: trip to Mariapolis Luminosa in Hyde Park to view 200 Nativity Sets from around the world, with lunch to follow. We'll carpool from the St. Kateri parking lot and leave around 9:45am to arrive at 10:30am. If interest-ed, mail check for $15 payable to St. Kateri and send to Mary Biasotti, 63 Brothers Road, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590 by Monday, December 12th. Thursday, December 22nd: Catholic Classics Book of the Month Club, 10-11am in the St. Kateri Meeting Room discuss-ing The Return of the Prodigal Son, by Henri Nouwen.

BRINGING THE CHRISTMAS SPIRIT Catholic Charities Community Services of Dutchess County work with struggling families to keep their lights on, remain in their homes and/or provide food for their children who don't have funds for their children this Christmas. CHRISTMAS FOOD BASKETS Christmas season is a time of festivity and joy. Consider donating a food basket to those in need to celebrate the birth of Jesus. Items needed are: turkey or ham, stuffing, gravy, cranberry sauce, white potatoes, sweet potatoes, fresh vegetables, salad mix & dressing, rolls, butter, milk, eggs, fresh fruit, dessert, coffee, tea, cold beverages and a foil pan. We also accept loose items. Drop off for baskets is December 18th 10 am-12 noon at St. Columba. Baskets are blessed at 1 pm, and disbursement will follow. SVDP CHILDREN'S CHRISTMAS GIFTS We are purchasing gift cards from Kohl's for children ages 0-17 of the families we serve. The gift cards permit the par-ents/guardians to purchase a needed or wanted item for the child. ADVENT DAILY MASS AT NOON St. Columba Church will have daily Mass Monday - Friday at 7 am and 12 pm during Advent. Exceptions are December 7th and 8th. Sign up for Flocknotes to receive notification.

MEN’S RETREAT St. Denis’ annual Men’s Retreat will be held at Mt. Alvernia Retreat Center in Wappingers Falls January 13-15. The pro-gram for the weekend will include Mass, time for self-reflection, several focused discussion topics and the sacra-ment of Reconciliation. Join with other men to strengthen your relationship with God. (A retreat makes a great gift for the “man who is hard to shop for!”) The retreat begins Friday evening with an informal pizza get-together and concludes with Mass and Lunch on Sunday. MARIAPOLIS LUMINOSA NATIVITY DISPLAY Each Christmas, throughout the month of December, Mariapolis Luminosa in Hyde Park displays over 200 Nativity scenes from every continent in the world. People come annually, from near and far, to see this beautiful event and have said their visits have made their Christmas season more meaningful. Come see for yourself. The display runs from December 1-30, Sat-Sun 1-5 pm; Mon-Fri 2-5pm. Suggested donation is $5.
