THE WORD OF GOD THIS SUNDAY: For this Sunday, the Twenty-ninth in Ordinary Time, the Scriptural read-ings begin with a passage from the Book of the Prophet Isaiah where God employs Cyrus as an instrument. In the second reading, from the Letter of Saint Paul to the Thessalonians, Saint Paul speaks of his gratitude to God. In the Gospel, Jesus speaks of the census tax owed to Caesar.

BAKE SALE TO AID A PARISH IN PUERTO RICO: Some Saint Kilian parishioners with the assistance of their daughter’s eighth grade classmates will sponsor a bake sale this Sunday after the 10:00 a.m. Mass. The parishioners have family ties to a parish in Puerto Rico and wanted to do something to assist the parishioners trying to rebuild (Parroquia Nuestra Señora de Belen in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico). If you would like to donate baked goods, please drop them off in the church the day of the sale.

FRANK MANDL IN THE CWNC HALL OF FAME: Last Sunday, parishioner Frank Mandl was inducted into Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic’s Hall of Fame. We congratulate “Uncle Frank” and are very proud of him and grateful for all that he does for Saint Kilian Parish.

TALK ON DIVINE MERCY: In Saint Kilian Church, following the 5:00 p.m. Sunday evening Mass on October 29th, a presentation will be given by the Sisters of the Merciful Jesus. This congregation was founded by Saint Faustina’s spiritual director, Blessed Michael Sopocko. Please join us for a witness of mercy, time for prayer in adoration, worship and an opportunity for confession.

The Saint Kilian Religious Education program needs 2 good volunteers! One volunteer is needed on Sundays from 10:00 am until noon, and a second is

needed on Monday evenings from 6:00-8:00 pm when-ever CCD is in session. Need service hours? This is a great way to get them! Considering teaching or substitut-ing in the future for our program? This is a good way to see what goes on each week. Duties will mostly consist of assisting at the front desk. Volunteers must be adults or high school juniors or seniors. Please con-tact Mary French if you are interested, by email at [email protected] or 724-625-1665 x2122.

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS SOUP-TO-GO THANK YOU: Thanks to all the parishioners that purchased soup last weekend even with the summer like temperatures!! Our next soup

weekend is scheduled for November 11-12. Proceeds benefit Knights of Columbus charities. FELLOWSHIP DINNER 2018 CALENDAR: We are starting to construct the Fellowship Dinner Calendar for 2018. Those who sponsored a dinner in 2017 will re-ceive an e-mail inviting your 2018 participation. Families, businesses, restaurants, and community and parish groups who did not sponsor a dinner in 2017 and would like to sponsor a dinner in 2018 can contact Rob for in-formation: [email protected]. ST. VINCENT DE PAUL SOCIETY: In the Gospel today, Jesus says: “Repay to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God what belongs to God.” When God is the center of our lives there is no problem with giving others their due. Through your gift to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul you are helping your neighbor who is hungry, hopeless and frightened to know that they belong to God. If you know of a family in need, please contact the parish office at 724-625-1665 x2108. CARING QUILT MINISTRY: The Caring Quilt Ministry will be meeting on Saturday, October 28! Please stop in to see our operation! We have fun, work hard and share a great lunch. If you like to do adult coloring, this is the ministry for you! No sewing or quilting required, just col-or inside the lines! Questions, please contact Betsy Pfendler at [email protected] or 724-766-7435. Quilts are always available and the Parish Center. SUBSTITUTE TEACHERS NEEDED: Saint Kilian Parish School is currently seeking daily substitute teachers for the 2017-2018 school year. Applicants must hold a valid PA teaching certificate and have frequent availability to sub from 8:00 am - 3:30 pm. All required clearances will need obtained prior to substitute teaching. SKPS welcomes interested applicants to send a cover letter, resume, and a copy of their PA certi-fication to: [email protected]. Interviews will be conducted over the next few weeks.

THURSDAY MORNING MEN’S GROUP: Beginning in November, join Fr. Bober the second Thursday of each month for fellowship and sharing from 6 am to 7 am. All men of the parish are welcome to join us as we explore the lives of Biblical men. We will dive deeper into their struggles and battles that tell their story of triumph with God and how they can help us become men after God’s Heart. Please join us on Thursday, November 9th from 6 – 7 am in the Church Lower Level. Contact Deacon Ralph at [email protected] / 724-625-1665 x2103 to let us know you are attending or for more information.

MUSIC MINISTRY

Every liturgy ends with some sort of mission – we are sent to love and serve the Lord in each other. These are not just ritual words at the end of Mass to which we more or less consciously respond, “thanks be to God.” Our “thanks be to God” is more than words – it requires us to give thanks to God for all God has giv-en us by taking care of others and creation as God’s gifts to us. And so, our hymn at the time of Sending Forth is one that is meant to reflect this mission. We are to go and live the transformation of liturgy and the deepening of God’s presence within. When we sing hymns like Go To The World, Holy God, We Praise Thy Name, Praise God From Whom All Blessings Flow, The Spirit Sends Us Forth, God Whose Pur-pose Is To Kindle, and so many more – reflect on the texts of those hymns. Ask yourself, have I felt the transformational grace received at the Eucharist? Do I thank God for these gifts? Do I go out to the world to proclaim the Good News? CVOL PARENT MEETING: The Catholic Vision of Love (CVOL) is the Diocesan mandated program that is taught to all 5th-8th graders. The classes cover the basis of human dignity, our call to purity and chastity, and how we apply this to our relationships. ALL parents are invited to preview the material and the program on WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 25th from 7:00-8:00 pm in the cafeteria of the parish/education center. It is in-tended for those beginning the program (5th grade par-ents) but all parents of 5th-8th graders are welcome. Please, no children for this meeting. NOTE: students who attended the summer session of CCD have already had this course. If your child attends Catholic school, CVOL is taught in the classroom. The year has been moving along very quickly and the gym has been alive with positive energy! In physi-cal education, Kindergarten, first and second grade are working on their movement and locomotor skills. Third, fourth, and fifth grade

are working on physical fitness and foundational rules of sports. Middle school students have been learning about components of fitness by developing an effective workout plan. As part of the plan, students have been asked to set attainable goals to promote whole body fitness and healthy living habits. In addition, all students have been taking time during Physical Education to reflect on the gifts and talents that God has blessed them with and how to best use those gifts to serve God. All of the P.E. teachers and students are looking forward to an exciting year!

Called by Name – At Baptism we are given a name by which we are known not only to our family and friends, but also to God. Like Cyrus in today’s first reading, throughout our lives God calls us by name

as he asks us to follow him and to be his instrument in the world. As God calls us by our name and we call out to him as Abba (Father) we recognize how intimately God loves us. It also reveals that we are all sisters and broth-ers in the family of faith and heirs to the kingdom of God. On Mission for The Church Alive! is our opportunity to build up and strengthen the family of faith in the Diocese of Pittsburgh as we look for ways to extend our hearts to each other as God extends his heart to us. Of course, family relationships aren’t always perfect and can take hard work to grow stronger. We will have to work hard to strengthen the family of faith in our parishes, but it will be worth it as we journey together towards God’s kingdom. Get to know those who sit near you at Mass, who gather in fellowship after Mass or even people from churches near you and allow your heart to expand in love. Visit onmissionchurchalive.org to learn more and to stay informed.

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 29TH 1:00-5:00 PM - CHURCH HALL Help us serve our parish families with this FUN event. The event will be held in the parish hall this year. In-stead of decorating the trunk of your car, we encourage you to decorate an old trunk, chest or suitcase that can be displayed at your reserved tables. Come meet Belle from Beauty and the Beast! For more information please visit, saintkilian.org/treats.

SKY NITE SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 5TH 7:00-9:00 PM - CHURCH HALL Welcome guest speaker BJ Hyatt, youth leader and musician from My Choice. Come explore “How to Guard your Heart”.

FALL RETREAT FRIDAY, 11/17 - SUNDAY, 11/19 Think of this as a great opportunity to get away from all of the craziness that regular school work,

sports and other activities bring to your life. Let the adults this weekend provide you with this grace filled opportunity to grow closer to our Lord. Featuring: great music, inspiring speakers, uplifting prayer, cool camp, adoration, reconciliation and Mass. Visit saintkilian.org/fallretreat for more information and to register.

The Church Alive!, endow us with your gifts of collaboration, courage and compassion. Help us to fulfill the mission of Jesus and

His Church through vibrant parishes and effective ministries. Raise up selfless, energetic

LOOKING FOR A JOB? Priority2Work can help.

If you are unemployed or looking to make a job change, we can help! Priority2Work http://priority2work.org is an all-volunteer, faith centered, 501.c.3 nonprofit that has supported thousands in job transition.

Please join us at our quarterly Networking Event on, Tuesday, November 14 from 7:00 to 9:00 pm at Saint Kilian Parish/Education Center Cafeteria. Sign-in begins at 6:30 pm.

Representatives from local and national businesses will be present to network with job seekers in a supportive, positive atmosphere. While not a job fair, the event allows partici-pants to build their networks with employers, with volunteers from multiple job search support groups, and with other job seekers. Dress is “business.” Light refreshments will be served. There is no cost to participate.

You can register for this event by sending an email to [email protected]; Questions? E-mail Dean Mundy at [email protected].
