It’s Brought Us to Our KneesThis week the head of the U.S. Centers for Disease Con-trol and Prevention testified before Congress that we have “used the capacity that we have” to confront the pandem-ic, but “the reality is that it’s brought this nation to its knees.” The image of being “on our knees” has both emo-tional and spiritual connotations, but both refer to a posi-tion of humility. In battle, kneeling shows surrender; in a royal court, it shows dedicated service; and in prayer, it shows reverence to God. While there are many references to fighting the pandemic as a war, Dr. Robert Redfield was not signifying surrender in the sense of giving up. The battle to find treatments and a vaccine continues, as do the efforts to keep us safe in the meantime. But I think Dr. Redfield was making an important acknowledgement that many of us have been discovering for ourselves over these recent months.
The pandemic, economic crisis, and emphatic cries for justice and equality have humbled us and invited us to reflect on how vulnerable we all are. If we have tak-en time to reflect on this reality, perhaps it has confronted a fairytale image that we like to have of ourselves. The formula many fairytales follow ultimately comes down to helping the main character discover they have the power within themselves to determine their own destiny. This is good for a fairytale: it inspires us to look at things from a fresh perspective and not give up. But the experience of the past few months has reminded us that many things are not under our control, and even when the human family all works together, there are some challenges we cannot overcome without God’s help, without a Savior who is greater than ourselves. Jesus is not like a fairytale prince who comes and makes everything “happily ever after.”Rather, he shows that the Creator of all things is willing to come and share our human experiences - both joys and sufferings - to show the depth of God’s love for us.
As people of faith, we know being “on our knees”primarily as a posture of prayer and service. We genuflect to Christ, present in the Eucharist. We kneel when we turn to God in solemn prayer. We bend down, like Jesus did, to wash one another’s feet. We have been humbled by the medical, economic, and social justice crisis of our time, but being “brought to our knees” puts us in the perfect position to move forward from here. From our knees, we recognize our need to be in a strong relationship with God to be able to pour out our hearts in prayer and be open to the Lord’s guidance in our lives. From our knees, we have to look up to those around us, instead of looking down on them in judgment. From our knees, we can appreciate so much more the blessings we have received, and the rela-tive unimportance of some of the things we wish we had. From here we are able to look forward with hope, trusting in the will of God that we humble ourselves enough to be open to the Lord’s desire to save us and even use us as part of the remedies our world so desperately needs.
We are happy to announce that we will have limited office hours

We will be keeping track of those who enter the office in case we need to contact you.
Thank you for understanding as we continue to navigate through these uncertain times.
More Hospitality Volunteers Needed We have been blessed with volunteers who have come forward to help open our churches in a safe manor but many more are needed as we continue to work together during the Covid-19 pandemic. They help as greeters, ushers and sanitizers and are needed at every Mass and event such as funerals and wed-dings at both parishes. Please consider becoming a Hospitality Volunteer and join this team. contact your parish office to learn more. Thank you
The Sacrament of Reconciliation (confession) is be-ing celebrated in the conference room in both Parishes (located in the parish offices). Wearing a face cover-ing, you can stand face to face or behind the priest if you prefer. In our collaborative, Reconciliation is of-fered Saturdays 3:00 - 3:45pm at St. Mary, Sundays 9:15 - 9:45am at St. Martha, and other times by ap-pointment.

Wrentham Knights of Columbus Grocery Pickup/Delivery Service The Wrentham Knights of Columbus is pleased to announce the Grocery pickup service for sen-iors and parishioners in the Wrentham and Plainville communities during the COVID-19 Pandemic.
The Knights of Columbus will pick up your groceries and deliver safely to your door step. Save 10% on your groceries using a Special discount code. There is no additional cost for the delivery service, as the Knights are providing this charitable service to the seniors and parishioners in need.
There are three Easy Steps to the Grocery Delivery Service: 1. Setup a PeaPod Account. 2. Order your Groceries. 3. Contact the Knights of Columbus to arrange delivery during the following times: Saturday, 9am - 12pm and Sunday,
4pm - 7pm. Overall Process: 1. Parishioners, seniors and their families are requested to set up an account through Peapod for Stop & Shop at Plainville. The
Knights would help set up the account for seniors who are unable to do so by themselves. 2. After placing the orders, the parishioners, seniors and their families send an email to the Knights at wrenthamkocgro-
[email protected] with the day and time of pickup, their phone number, and their address so that the groceries can be picked up and delivered.
3. Please contact Kelly Williams ([email protected], 508-361-0209) or Mark DeLorenzo ([email protected], 201-819-0931) if any parishioner or senior needs help in placing their orders.
To set up a PeaPod Account, please see our website for more information.
Our Pastoral Staff has been working very hard behind the scenes to make First Communion dates a reality! Did you know that 2020 - 2021 has been designated as "The Year of the Eucharist?" What a great year to receive Our Lord for the first time!! Based on the suggestions of Bishop Reed, we have come up with several options for families during this period of social distancing. The best part is that you'll have a chance to choose the date that best fits your schedule. Once families have signed up for their days, I'll send out specific information on the procedures, following all safety protocols as
deemed necessary by the CDC and the Archdiocese of Boston. As of now, even our First Communion children will need to wear masks! When we get closer to these First Communion dates, I'll send out videos showing how the host will be distribut-ed and received. (This will help the children and even adults, especially since many folks haven't returned to Mass yet.) Special things about this year's First Communions!! 1. Families have options for the dates. 2. Children will be sitting with their families and have the opportunity to receive the Eucharist with their fami-
lies.3. Mass will be videoed for the first time! -Maggie Hoagland
Sr. Carmel Ethier, RJM Memorial Masses We have been praying for Sister Carmel, longtime resident of the Jesus and Mary Convent in Plainville,
lector and former choir director at St. Martha Parish, after her sudden passing on June 6. She had left instruc-tions for a small Funeral in their convent chapel, but we also want to honor her and mourn the loss of this sister actively involved in our parishes. We will have a special Memorial Mass open to the public this Wednesday, July 1, at 9 am at St. Mary church (where she attended daily Mass), and a Memorial Mass at a regular weekend Mass at St. Martha. There is a Mass scheduled at St. Martha on July 4 at the 5:30pm Mass.
