Stewardship: A Way of Life

29th Sunday in Ordinary Time

“… proclaim the word, be persistent whether it is

convenient or inconvenient …” 2 Timothy 4:2

It is not always convenient to be a good steward, especially when all the temptations of our busy and materialistic world get in the way. Now add our own pride and ego into the equation and living a stewardship lifestyle may be downright uncomfortable! Remember, God didn’t call us to be comfortable. He called us to be faithful.

Please keep these parishioners and family members in your prayers:

WORD OF LIFE: “This year’s theme, Christ Our Hope: In Every Season of Life, is particularly suited for the times in which we live. The attacks against human life seem to grow more numerous and callous by the day. Despite these challenges, we know that Christ has conquered sin and death once and for all. Through our Christian hope in the Resurrection, we are given the grace to persevere in faith. Our sacrifices on behalf of the

Gospel of Life can contribute to the redemption of this current culture of death.”

Wrapped In Love Our story starts at St. Mary, Milton’s Rummage Sale! Lisa Shea picked up

jeans, shirts and a gorgeous wedding dress that had been donated by a

parishioner. When checking out, Peggy Mayfeld and others had asked

how the items were going to be used. Lisa shared that “out of the piec-

es” of denim/shirts, a quilt can be made, and from the beautiful bridal

gown, “Angel Gowns” can be made. (Angel Gowns are used to wrap

infants in that are heartbreakingly still-born.) From a small conversation

and a HUGE God wink, our Wrapped In Love sew group was formed. We

have since partnered with a local family fundraiser “Jack’s Pack” and will

donate Angel Gowns with each Cuddle Cot. In addition, we are making

a Christening Gown or two to donate to St. Mary Church for those who

may borrow. Below is the denim quilt and pillow that was made by Lisa

Shea, Peggy Mayfield and Lynn Montanye, that were donated to St.

Mary’s Harvest Festival.

If you are interested, please join us! Our next meeting is Monday, Octo-

ber 28 from 9:00 a.m. to approximately noon. Questions? Call Lisa Shea

at 608-289-7489.

RCIA FOR ST. JOSEPH AND ST. MARY: Thinking of joining the Roman Catholic Church? Wondering where to begin? The Catholic RCIA stages are a great place to start! The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is a restoration of the ancient practice of initiation in the Church. Focused on conversion, candidates and catechumens enter an extended period of formation. Christian initiation is concerned with the fundamental values of the Christian way of life. It is not a program but a sacramental process. RCIA is for anyone who: • Is not baptized • Is baptized in another Christian

faith • Is baptized Catholic, but has

received no further catechesis. Wherever you are in your faith journey, we would love for you to join us in learning more about Catholicism. For more information, please email the RCIA Director, Amy Volciak at [email protected]. QUO VADIS Men’s Discernment Group: Interested in discovering God’s call for your life? Join Fr. Greg for prayer, talks, discussion, food and fun! We meet the second Friday of each

month from 6:30-9:00 p.m. at Holy Name Heights, 702 S. High Point Rd, Madison. The next meeting dates for 2019 are November 8 and December 13. For more information: Rev. Gregory Ihm 608-821-3095 or Lori Ballweg 608-821-3089. WORLDWIDE MARRIAGE ENCOUNTER: Let us build faith through love in our marriages. Volunteer/Outreach Opportunities

We were saddened to learn this week of the death of one of our most valued members, Someone Else. Someone’s passing creates a vacancy that will be difficult to fill. Else has been with us for many years and for every one of those years, Someone did far more than a normal person’s share of the work. Whenever there was a job to do, a class to teach, or a meeting to attend, one name was on everyone’s list, “Let Someone Else do it.” Whenever leadership was mentioned, this wonderful person was looked to for inspiration as well as results; “Someone Else can work with that group.” It was common knowledge that Someone Else was among the most liberal givers in our church. Whenever there was a financial need, everyone just assumed Someone Else would make up the difference. Someone Else was a wonderful person; sometimes appearing superhuman. Were the truth know, everybody expected too much of Someone Else. Now Someone Else is gone! We wonder what we are going to do. Someone Else left a wonderful example to follow, but who is going to follow it? Who is going to do the things Someone Else did?

When you are asked to help at church this year, remember -- we can’t depend on Someone Else anymore. Many hands make little work!

Elementary Kiddos. Jesus is True God and True Man!

Explore Being Catholic: Children buddied up and looked up miracles and parables in the bible. They shared their stories with the other children in large groups. Faith-Filled People: St. Anthony of Padua loved the child Jesus and gave up his possessions to teach others about Jesus. St. Martin de Pores helped children without parents by providing them with food, clothing and shelter. Time With God. The Liturgical calendar teaches us the life of Jesus in church. During Advent, we prepare for the birth of Jesus on Christmas. During Lent, we prepare for the death and resurrection of Jesus. During Ordinary Time, we learn about Jesus, the people he meets, his lessons (parables), and miracles. Sharing God’s Story: 6th graders taught us the various ways to pray and the gospel lesson for Sunday! Shane especially reminded us of PERSISTENCE : )

Family Faith. People often remark that they wish their child came with a manual...so here you go! Alright, so it’s not EVERYTHING...but a good place to start.

Children learned about loaves and fishes, bible studied, played games, enjoyed good food and more! Youth Ministry.

Confirmation candidates led the opening prayer for youth during the evening session. Parishioners are

asked to keep our parish youth in persistent prayer as they prepare for the Sacrament of Confirmation. Thank you for the birthday bag donations! They were delivered to the pantry this week!

"There was a judge in a certain town who neither feared God nor respected any human being. And a widow in that town used to come to him and say, 'Render a just decision for me against my adversary.' For a long time the judge was unwilling, but eventually he thought, 'While it is true that I neither fear God nor respect any human being, because this widow keeps bothering me I shall deliver a just decision for her lest she finally come and strike me.'"
