Fr. Ron’s Ramblings

faz parte do Men’s Club. Estamos planeando outro

excelente evento comunitário.

Last Saturday evening our Brazilian community members hosted an annual Brazilian Festival in the parking lot. I know those who came to the four o’clock Mass saw the festive booths. Those who ran the festival worked from early morning setting up, working from 510 p.m. at the booths, and long into the night afterwards to make sure that the parking lot was cleaned and ready for all of you coming to Mass the following morning.

I was more than pleased with how smoothly every-thing went and I am grateful to Fr. Adriano and all those involved for their hard work. When Fr. Adri-ano first asked about using the parking lot he men-tioned that any profit the festival made would go to our parish. On Sunday he came by the rectory and presented me with over $11,000 in profits! To say I was floored would be an understatement. As you know during the summer months our offertory in-come always ebbs as many people are vacationing. This profit will certainly enhance our summer collec-tions.

Thanks again to all our Brazilian parish members for your dedication and hard work.

On a similar note, plans for our parish picnic are well under way. Again it is scheduled for August 13 at 12

noon. Don’t forget we are counting on you to provide

the salads/side dishes and desserts for the meal. Any-

one who is interested in helping out set ups, cook-

ing, serving, clean ups please see me or Bill Smith of the Men’s Club. We are looking forward to anoth-

er great community event.

Summer Message from Your Parish Nurse

Please remember, on these hot and humid weekends, if you are elderly, sick, have breathing issues or the like! God will understand if you do not come to Mass. You can watch it on television rather than compromising yourself in a hot enclosed church. For those that can come to Mass, remember to keep yourselves hydrated with noncaffeinated fluids be-fore coming to church. Also wear loose fitting cloth-ing and light colors to prevent getting overheated in close quarters. Have a safe and blessed summer!

Today’s readings highlight the mystery of kindness. Most of us think we know what kindness is so why all it a mystery? We tend to think of a mystery as something hidden or unknowable. But, in the bibli-cal sense, a mystery is something that is hidden un-til God chooses to reveal it.

In the First Reading, the sage, or wise person, prais-es God for his response to the sinner. Although God could respond with wrath, the sage says, God judges with clemency and treats the sinner with mercy. Why? To teach God’s people that those who wish to be righteous must be kind. The Geek word is philanthropos, meaning “humane or tender-hearted.” When applied to God, it means “peopleloving.” If we want to be just, the sage says, we must act in kindness as God has done. This is no ordinary kindness. It is a kindness deeply rooted in the life of God, Paul echoes a similar theme in the Second Reading. God is a people lover who recog-nizes humanity’s struggle to pray and responds with compassion, sending the Spirit to intercede for us.

In today’s Gospel, Matthew provides several para-bles that talked about the mystery of divine kind-ness. As is typical of parables, there are fictional stories with a surprising twist. The hearers of the first parable probably thought. “That master is not very smart about farming,” because he told his serv-ants to wait until harvest to separate weeds from the good grain. But the interpretation of the parable (verses 3642) makes it clear that God does not behave as humans do. Rather, God is peopleloving and will act in patience and restraint even to the end of time.

In the Wisdom passage and Psalm, what does God want from humanity?

Following Pauls’ invitation, how would you like the Holy Spirit to pray on your behalf?

What do the three parables of today’s Gospel tell you about he mystery of God’s kindness toward humanity?

From At Home with the Word 2017 by LTP

When I look at a patch of dandelions, I see a bunch of weeds that are going to take over my yard. My kids see flowers for Mom and blowing white fluff you can wish on.

When I look at an old drunk and he smiles at me, I see a smelly, dirty person who probably wants mon-ey and I look away. My kids see someone smiling at them and they smile back.

When I hear music I love, I know I can’t carry a tune and don’t have much rhythm so I sit selfconsciously and listen. My kids feel the beat and move to it. They sing out the words. If they don’t know them, they make up their own.

When I feel wind on my face, I brace myself against it. I feel it messing up my hair and pulling me back when I walk. My kids close their eyes, spread their arms and fly with it, until they fall to the ground laughing.

When I pray, I say thee and thou and grant me this, give me that. My kids say, “Hi God! Thanks for my toys and my friends. Please keep the bad dreams away tonight.”

When I see a mud puddle I step around it. I see muddy shoes and dirty carpets. My kids sit in it. They see dams to build, rivers to cross, and worms to play with.

I wonder if we are given kids to teach or to learn from? No wonder God loves the little children! Enjoy the little things in life, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.

I wish you Big Mud Puddles and Sunny Yellow Dandelions!!! Author unknown.

Have a wonderful , safe and blessed summer.

Sunday Throughout The

Week

Mission for the Week

Help your parents in the garden. Watch how carefully weeds need to be pulled, so you don't pull up the good plants, too.

Something to Draw

Draw a picture of wheat and weeds.

Sharing the Gospel

As God's child, you are the wheat in God's field. As you love and trust God more, your faith will grow. You will see others around you who love God, too. God will be happy to see you growing up in God's love. As you grow taller and stronger, you will also notice others around you who ignore or hate God. God will get ridof those weeds. Then he will bring you into heaven.

Prayer

God, help my love and faith to grow strong.
