SERVING OUR LORD Father Eugene Azorji was born on April 24, 1950 in a small village in Imo State, Nigeria, Africa. He was educated by Irish Catholic Missionaries who influenced him to enter the priesthood and he was ordained on August 23, 1980 in Ahiara Diocese Mbaise in Nigeria.

Following his ordination, Father Eugene had assignments as Rector and Dean in Minor and Major Seminaries in Nigeria; student of Theology in Rome, New York City and Nigeria, earning MS and PHD degrees in Education; Parish Priest in New York City; and high school Teacher and Hospital Chaplain in Dallas.

LEAVING A LEGACY IN OUR PARISH Father Eugene was appointed in 2017 by Bishop Farrel as Pastor to St. Michael the Archangel. During his three year tenure at Saint Michael’s, Father Eugene increased the number of Spanish masses, hired bilingual Directors of Ministries and Communications to diversify the Parish Website, Flocknotes, Facebook, and weekly bulletin to accommodate the expanding Hispanic population of parishioners; established the Parish Mission Statement, Pastoral Council and Community Devel-opment and Stewardship Committees; activated the Ministry of Care and the Vocations Chalice; strengthened the Finance Council with a seasoned Business Manager; attracted higher attendance through an enhanced Welcome Ministry equipped with a comprehensive Bilingual Welcome Packet; raised funds to begin construction of the multimil-lion dollar Faith Formation Center, and maintained spiritual and temporal ministry to parishioners in the midst of the global Coronavirus Pandemic. His legacy is a cohesive vibrant growing multilin-gual community with 64 active diverse Ministries, both in English and Spanish. He particularly enjoyed the personal relationships that teaching the Bible Class Studies provided. NEW ASSIGNMENT Father Eugene is called once again to form semi-narians at a critical time in the history of the Cath-olic Church and will begin his new appointment as Spiritual Director of the Holy Trinity Seminary in Irving, Texas on September 7th. Join us in praying and wishing Father Eugene success in his new mission. He will be greatly missed.

Su legado es una comunidad unida y vibrante que crece en varios idiomas con 64 ministerios diversos activos, tanto en inglés como en español. Disfrutaba en especial las relaciones personales que proporcio-naba la enseñanza de los Estudios de Clase Bíblica. NUEVA ASIGNACIÓN El Padre Eugene es llamado de nuevo a formar semi-naristas en un momento crítico en la historia de la Iglesia Católica y comenzará su nuevo nombramiento como Director Espiritual del Holy Trinity Seminary en Irving, Texas el 7 de septiembre. TRUST Keys hold great significance for those who carry them. They

represent the trust and authority of the owner when given to

another person. We may give our house key to a trusted friend

to take care of our matters while we are away. We may give

keys to someone responsible for maintaining or working in a

particular building. Keys to vehicles are given to people who

have proven themselves responsible drivers. The readings

today focus on this kind of trust—the trust that conveys authority

and responsibility. In the first reading, the symbol is specifically

that of a key; but the second reading and the Gospel also speak

of trust and leadership as they refer to the earthly church that

Jesus established.

CONFIANZA Las llaves son de gran importancia para quienes las llevan. Representan la confianza y la autoridad del dueño cuando son entregadas a otra persona. Quizás demos la llave de nuestra casa a un amigo de confianza para que la cuide en nuestra ausencia. Quizás damos las llaves a alguien responsable del mantenimiento u obras de un edificio en particular. Las llaves de vehículos se dan a personas que demuestran ser conducto-res responsables. Let us pause on this very point, on the fact that Jesus gives Simon this name, “Peter”, which in Jesus’ language is pronounced “Kefa”, a word which means “rock”. In the Bible this term, “rock”, refers to God. Jesus gives it to Simon not because of his character or for his merits as a human, but for his genuine and steadfast faith, which comes to him from above. Jesus feels great joy in his heart because, in Simon, he recognizes the hand of the Father, the work of the Holy Spirit. He recognizes that God the Father has given Simon “steadfast” faith on which He, Jesus, can build his Church, meaning his community, that is, all of us. Jesus intends to give life to “his” Church, a people founded no longer on heritage, but on faith, which means on the relationship with Him, a relationship of love and trust. The Church is built on our relationship with Jesus. And to begin his Church, Jesus needs to find solid faith, “steadfast” faith in his disciples. And it is this that He must verify at this point of the journey. The Lord has in mind a picture of the struc-ture, an image of the community like a building. This is why, when he hears Simon’s candid profession of faith, he calls him a “rock”, and declares his intention to build his Church upon this faith. Brothers and sisters, what happened in a unique way in St Peter, also happens in every Christian who develops a sincere faith in Jesus the Christ, the Son of the Living God. Today’s Gospel passage also asks each of us, is your faith good? Each one answer in his or her heart. Is my faith good? How does the Lord find our hearts? A heart that is firm as a rock, or a heart like sand, that is doubtful, diffident, disbeliev-ing? It will do us good to think about this throughout the day today. If the Lord finds in our heart, I don’t say a perfect, but sincere, genuine faith, then He also sees in us living stones with which to build his community. This community’s foundation stone is Christ, the unique cornerstone. On his side, Peter is the rock, the visible foundation of the Church’s unity; but every baptized person is called to offer Jesus his or her lowly but sincere faith, so that He may continue to build his Church, today, in every part of the world. Even today, so many people think Jesus may be a great prophet, knowledgeable teacher, a model of justice.... And even today Jesus asks his disciples, that is, all of us: “Who do you say that I am?”. What do we answer? Let us think about this. But above all, let us pray to God the Father, through the intercession of the Virgin Mary; let us pray that He grant us the grace to respond, with a sincere heart: “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God”. This is a confession of faith, this is really “the Creed”. Let us repeat it together three times: “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God”

Detengámonos un momento precisamente en este punto, en el hecho de que Jesús asigna a Simón este nuevo nombre: «Pedro», que en la lengua de Jesús suena «Kefa», una palabra que significa «roca». En la Biblia este término, «roca», se refiere a Dios. Jesús lo asigna a Simón no por sus cualidades o sus méritos humanos, sino por su fe genuina y firme, que le es dada de lo alto. Jesús siente en su corazón una gran alegría, porque reconoce en Simón la mano del Padre, la acción del Espíritu Santo. Reconoce que Dios Padre dio a Simón una fe «fiable», sobre la cual Él, Jesús, podrá construir su Iglesia, es decir, su comunidad, con todos nosotros. Jesús tiene el propósito de dar vida a «su» Iglesia, un pueblo fundado ya no en la descendencia, sino en la fe, lo que quiere decir en la relación con Él mismo, una relación de amor y de confianza. Nuestra relación con Jesús construye la Iglesia. Y, por lo tanto, para iniciar su Iglesia Jesús necesita encontrar en los discípulos una fe sólida, una fe «fiable». Es esto lo que Él debe verificar en este punto del camino. El Señor tiene en la mente la imagen de construir, la imagen de la comunidad como un edificio. He aquí por qué, cuando escucha la profesión de fe franca de Simón, lo llama «roca», y manifiesta la intención de construir su Iglesia sobre esta fe. Que cada uno responda en su corazón. ¿Cómo va tu fe? ¿Cómo encuentra el Señor nuestro corazón? ¿Un corazón firme como la piedra o un corazón arenoso, es decir, dudoso, desconfiado, incré-dulo? Nos hará bien hoy pensar en esto. Si el Señor encuentra en nuestro corazón una fe no digo perfecta, pero sincera, genuina, entonces Él ve también en nosotros las piedras vivas con la cuales construir su comunidad. De esta comunidad, la piedra fundamental es Cristo, piedra angular y única. Por su parte, Pedro es piedra, en cuanto fundamento visible de la unidad de la Iglesia; pero cada bautizado está llamado a ofrecer a Jesús la propia fe, pobre pero sincera, para que Él pueda seguir constru-yendo su Iglesia, hoy, en todas las partes del mundo. También hoy mucha gente piensa que Jesús es un gran profeta, un maestro de sabiduría, un modelo de justicia... Y también hoy Jesús pregunta a sus discípulos, es decir a todos nosotros: «Y vosotros, ¿quién decís que soy yo?». ¿Qué responderemos? Pensemos en ello. Pero sobre todo recemos a Dios Padre, por intercesión de la Virgen María; pidámosle que nos dé la gracia de responder, con corazón sincero: «Tú eres el Cristo, el Hijo del Dios vivo». Esta es una confesión de fe, este es precisamente «el credo». Repitámoslo juntos tres veces: «Tú eres el Cristo, el Hijo del Dios vivo».

INTO THE BREACH Into the Breach is a call to battle for Catholic men which urges them to embrace wholeheartedly masculine virtues in a world in crisis.

The Knights of Columbus produced a powerful video series which seeks to answer the question of what it means to be a man and how to live as a man in today’s world. 12 episodes lasting 10-12 minutes each cover topics like Family, Fa-therhood, and Prayer to name a few and they focus on different aspects of authentic Catholic masculinity. At the Council #9903 officers July Zoom meeting, Fred Fink, a passionate Knight and devoted church leader was sworn in as our new Grand Knight. A big thank you to our outgoing Grand Knight, Randy Bolz for his exceptional leadership and commitment to the council over the past 2 years and who will continue to serve as a Trustee. All the very best to these two individuals and to all current and newly appointed officers in the upcoming Fraternal Year.

El MFCC-USA es un Movimiento Católico laico del pueblo de Dios que agrupa familias católicas, apoyadas con la asistencia de Obispos, Sacerdotes, Diáconos y Religiosas. El Movimiento es una agrupación de familias Católicas que unen sus esfuerzos para promover los valores humanos y cristianos de la familia, para que esta sea en la comunidad: formadora de personas, educadora en la fe, consciente de su misión evangelizadora y comprometida en el desarrollo integral de la comunidad y de la iglesia doméstica. A escala internacional el Movimiento forma parte de la Confederación Internacional de Movimientos Familiares Cristianos (CIMFC).

These last few months have brought so much uncertain-ty to all of us in so many aspects of our lives, including the financial. For this reason, we are extremely grateful for those who have been able to continue their support throughout the suspension of Masses back on March 13th. For those who couldn’t, we are also grateful that you considered it, even if you were unable to. A HUGE THANK YOU! We want to share with you the contributions received (see below) these last few months, since Masses were suspended. The dollar amounts are less than one-half of our normal monthly collection amount and way below our break-even point. Under normal circumstances we constantly review and reduce expenses wherever it is possible, trying to always be good stewards of your offer-ings. At the present time even more. Unfortunately there are some expenses, such as electricity, that cannot be materially reduced. For example, our cost of electricity in summer is $3,500 to $4,500 per month. Our Lord leads our way, we are confident that together as a Parish, we will move forward and accomplish what-ever He has planned for us.

Con aquellos que no lo hicieron, también estamos agradecidos de que lo hayan considerado, aunque no pudieron hacerlo. ¡MUCHÍSIMAS GRACIAS! Queremos compartir con ustedes las contribu-ciones recibidas (ver abajo) de estos últimos meses, desde que las Misas fueron suspendidas. Los montos en dólares son menos de la mitad del montón mensual que se recibide normalmente y también muy por debajo de nuestro punto de equilibrio. En circunstancias normales, revisamos constantemente y reducimos los gastos en la me-dida de lo posible, tratando de ser siempre bue-nos administradores de sus ofrendas. En este mo-mento aún más. Desafortunadamente hay algunos gastos, como la electricidad, que no se pueden reducir materialmente. Por ejemplo, nuestro costo de electricidad en verano es de $3,500 a $4,500 por mes. Nuestro Señor nos guía, estamos seguros de que juntos, como Parroquia, avanzaremos y logra-remos lo que El tiene planeado para nosotros.
