LA EPIFANÍA DEL SEÑOR 6-7 DE ENERO DE 2018

El Santo Evangelio según San Mateo (Mt 2:1-12)) Jesús nació en Belén de Judá, en tiempos del rey Herodes. Unos magos de oriente llegaron entonces a Jerusalén y preguntaron: "¿Dónde está el rey de los judíos que acaba de nacer? Porque vimos surgir su estrella y hemos venido a adorarlo". Al enterarse de esto, el rey Herodes se sobresaltó y toda Jerusalén con él. Convocó entonces a los sumos sacerdotes y a los escribas del pueblo y les preguntó dónde tenía que nacer el Mesías. Ellos le contestaron: "En Belén de Judá, porque así lo ha escrito el profeta: Y tú, Belén, tierra de Judá, no eres en manera alguna la menor entre las ciudades ilustres de Judá, pues de ti saldrá un jefe, que será el pastor de mi pueblo, Israel". Entonces Herodes llamó en secreto a los ma-gos, para que le precisaran el tiempo en que se les había aparecido la estrella y los mandó a Belén, di-ciéndoles: "Vayan a averiguar cuidadosamente qué hay de ese niño y, cuando lo encuentren, avísenme para que yo también vaya a adorarlo". Después de oír al rey, los magos se pusieron en camino, y de pronto la estrella que habían visto surgir, comenzó a guiarlos, hasta que se detuvo encima de donde estaba el niño. Al ver de nuevo la estrella, se llenaron de inmensa alegría. Entraron en la casa y vieron al niño con María, su madre, y postrándose, lo adoraron. Después, abriendo sus cofres, le ofrecieron regalos: oro, incienso y mirra. Advertidos durante el sueño de que no volvieran a Herodes, regresaron a su tierra por otro camino. Palabra del Señor

Reflexión Queridos hermanos: Comenzamos nuestra celebración de la Fiesta de la Epifanía del Señor con esta exhor-tación de Isaías: “Levántate, brilla Jerusalén, que llega tu luz; la gloria del Señor amanece sobre ti”. La luz que había visto el profeta es la estrella que ven los Reyes Magos en Oriente y otros muchos hombres más. Los demás la contemplan solo como algo que les parece admirable, pero que no les afecta. Sin embargo, los Reyes Magos sí descubren su significado y se dan cuenta de que, con ella, Dios les envía un mensaje importante por el que vale la pena cargar con las molestias de dejar la comodidad de lo seguro, y arriesgar-se a un viaje incierto con la esperanza de encontrar al “Rey de reyes y Señor de señores” y deciden seguir a esa estrella, que antes habían anunciado los profetas y esperado el pueblo de Israel durante siglos. Al llegar los Magos a Jerusalén, la capital de los judíos, piensan que allí les indicarán el lugar preciso don-de ha nacido su Rey, y en efecto allí les dirán: “En Belén de Judea, porque así está escrito por medio del profeta”. La noticia de la llegada de los Reyes Magos con su séquito debió ser notada por todos sus habi-tantes, pues “el rey Herodes se sobresaltó y con él toda Jerusalén”, nos dice el Evangelio de hoy. Jesucristo es la Luz que deberá iluminar la vida de todo ser humano, pero aún existen a quienes no les interesa. Solo un pequeño esfuerzo y Él podrá cambiar sus vidas al haber encontrado al Rey del Gozo y de la Paz, pero esto requiere de la buena voluntad de buscarle, de movernos, de preguntar sin desanimarnos, como los Re-yes Magos, de salir de nuestra rutina y de apreciar el inmenso valor de encontrar a “Cristo, Luz del mun-do”. Epifanía significa, “manifestación”, “presentación” de Jesús como Rey Salvador del mundo. Los Reyes Magos llevaron regalos al Niño-Dios y nosotros, los que también hemos seguido su estrella du-rante todo este Adviento, ¿qué regalos le traemos? Creo que el mejor regalo es el del corazón limpio, amo-roso, pleno de serena paz, fidelidad y confianza en Jesús, el Dios que nos salva. Esforcémonos por trasmi-tir y cultivar en nuestros niños esta santa tradición. ¡FELIZ FIESTA DE REYES!!! Paz y bien., Padre Rodolfo

We saw his star at its rising and have come to do him homage. "When King Herod heard this, he was greatly troubled, and all Jerusalem with him. Assembling all the chief priests and the scribes of the people, He inquired of them where the Christ was to be born. They said to him, "In Bethlehem of Judea, for thus it has been written through the prophet: And you, Bethlehem, land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; since from you shall come a ruler, who is to shepherd my people Israel. "Then Herod called the magi secretly and ascertained from them the time of the star's appearance. He sent them to Bethlehem and said, "Go and search diligently for the child. When you have found him, bring me word, that I too may go and do him homage. "After their audience with the king they set out. And behold, the star that they had seen at its rising preceded them, until it came and stopped over the place where the child was. They were overjoyed at seeing the star, and on entering the house they saw the child with Mary his mother. They prostrated themselves and did him homage. Then they opened their treasures and offered him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. And having been warned in a dream not to return to Herod, they departed for their country by another way. The Gospel of the Lord.

Reflection Dear Brothers and Sisters: We begin our celebration of the Feast of the Epiphany of the Lord with this exhortation from Isaiah: "Get up, shine Jerusalem, your light comes; the glory of the Lord dawns on you. " The light that the prophet had seen is the star seen by the Magi in the East and many other men. The others contemplate it only as something that seems admirable, but that does not affect them. However, the Magi do discover their meaning and realize that, with it, God sends them an important message for which it is worth bearing the annoyances of leaving the comfort of safety, and risk an uncertain journey hoping to find the "King of kings and Lord of lords" and decide to follow that star, who had previously announced the prophets and awaited the people of Israel for centuries. When the Magi arrived in Jerusalem, the capital of the Jews, they thought that there they would be told the exact place where their King was born, and in fact there they would say to them: "In Bethlehem of Judea, because this is written through the prophet". The news of the arrival of the Magi with their retinue should be noticed by all its inhabitants, because "King Herod was startled and with him all Jerusalem," says the Gospel today. Jesus Christ is the Light that should illuminate the life of every human being, but there are still those who do not care. Only a small effort and He can change their lives to have found the King of Joy and Peace, but this requires the willingness to seek, to move, to ask without discouragement, as the Magi, out of our routine and to appreciate the immense value of finding "Christ, Light of the world." Epiphany means, "manifestation", "presentation" of Jesus as King, Savior of the world. The Magi brought gifts to the Child-God and we, who have also followed his star throughout this Advent, what gifts do we bring him? I believe that the best gift is that of a clean, loving heart, full of serene peace, fidelity and trust in Jesus, the God who saves us. Del tratado de San Roberto Belarmino sobre la ascensión de la mente hacia Dios

Tú, Señor, eres bueno y clemente, rico en misericordia; ¿quién, que haya empezado a gustar, por poco que sea, la dulzura de tu dominio paternal dejará de servirte con todo el corazón? ¿Qué es, Señor, lo que mandas a tus siervos? Cargad –nos dices– con mi yugo. ¿Y cómo es este yugo tuyo? Mi yugo –añades– es llevadero y mi carga ligera. ¿Quién no llevará de buena gana un yugo que no oprime, sino que halaga, y una carga que no pesa, sino que da nueva fuerza? Con razón añades: Y encontraréis vuestro descanso. ¿Y cuál es este yugo tuyo que no fatiga, sino que da reposo? Por supuesto aquel mandamiento, el primero y el más grande: Amarás al Señor, tu Dios, con todo tu corazón. ¿Qué más fácil, más suave, más dulce que amar la bondad, la belleza y el amor, todo lo cual eres tú, Señor, Dios mío?

¿Acaso no prometes además un premio a los que guardan tus mandamientos, más preciosos que el oro fino, más dulces que la miel de un panal? Por cierto, que sí, y un premio grandioso, como dice Santiago: La corona de la vida que el Señor ha prometido a los que lo aman. ¿Y qué es esta corona de la vida? Un bien superior a cuanto podamos pensar o desear, como dice san Pablo, citando al profeta Isaías: Ni el ojo vio, ni el oído oyó, ni el hombre puede pensar lo que Dios ha preparado para los que lo aman.

En verdad es muy grande el premio que proporciona la observancia de tus mandamientos. Y no sólo aquel mandamiento, el primero y el más grande, es provechoso para el hombre que lo cumple, no para Dios que lo impone, sino que también los demás mandamientos de Dios perfeccionan al que los cumple, lo embellecen, lo instruyen, lo ilustran, lo hacen en definitiva bueno y feliz. Por esto, si juzgas rectamente, comprenderás que has sido creado para la gloria de Dios y para tu eterna salvación, comprenderás que éste es tu fin, que éste es el objetivo de tu alma, el tesoro de tu corazón. Si llegas a este fin, serás dichoso; si no lo alcanzas, serás un desdichado.

Por consiguiente, debes considerar como realmente bueno lo que te lleva a tu fin, y como realmente malo lo que te aparta del mismo. Para el auténtico sabio, lo próspero y lo adverso, la riqueza y la pobreza, la salud y la enfermedad, los honores y los desprecios, la vida y la muerte son cosas que, de por sí, no son ni deseables ni aborrecibles. Si contribuyen a la gloria de Dios y a tu felicidad eterna, son cosas buenas y deseables; de lo contrario, son malas y aborrecibles.
