HOLY TRINITY SUNDAY

When we say God is the triune God, we are saying something about who God is beyond, before, and after the universe: that there is community within God. Our experience of

this is reflected in Paul’s words today. When we pray to God as Jesus prayed to his Abba (an everyday, intimate parental address), the Spirit prays within us, creating between us and God the same relationship Jesus has with the one who sent him.

John 3:1-17

Jesus’ miracles prompt Nicodemus to visit him in secrecy. Jesus tells him about being born of the Spirit and about the Son who has been sent by God to save.

FLOWERS AND CANDLES GIVEN May 27, 2018

The Altar Flowers are given to the glory of God by Colleen and Lewis Weathers in honor

of their anniversary. The Sanctuary Candle is given to the glory of God by Robin Johnson in honor of Eldon

Stoehr’s birthday.

CHURCH OFFICE CLOSED ON FRIDAYS

JUNE, JULY AND AUGUST

The church office is closed on Friday during the months of June, July and

August. We are open Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. until noon. The newsletter deadline remains the same: All articles must be received no later

than 9:30 a.m. on Thursday morning. Thank you!

Judy

WHAT’S HAPPENING AT SAINT PETER

Unfortunately, our church’s roof is leading and shingles are being torn off in the wind. The life expectancy of the roof has been reached. The shingled roof

needs replacing. We will replace the entire shingled roof with work beginning

on Monday, June 4. Work should be completed by June 15. Construction cones will be in place to assist us in parking.

The inconvenience will be temporary. However, the improvement will be

permanent! Thank you for your understanding.

Steve Spindler

Spirit Notes

2018

I learned a long time ago that the most God-honoring . . . act is to

err on the side of loving people. When you simply accept those

around you in whatever condition they come to you, the table

naturally expands and relationship happens and God does stuff

that you couldn’t predict or control.

- John Pavlovitz, A Bigger Table

MUSIC NOTES May 27, 2018

This Sunday the choirs will sing at the Communion

Meditation while the Saint Peter Hand Bell Choir provides the special music at Offertory. The First Service Choir sings, “His Love for Me”. This original anthem

by composer Patricia Mock has a piano and guitar accompaniment. The guitar

accompaniment adds a folk quality to the anthem. Rick Jones will play guitar. The Second Service Choir adds a new anthem to their repertoire, “The Gift of

Love”. The publisher describes the anthem this way, “Hal Hopson's pairing of the American folk tune O Waly Waly with the text of the beloved Corinthians

bible verse is truly inspired!”. Saint Peter Hand Bells join both choirs during the Choral Introit, “All Glory to Our Lord and God” also composed by Hal H.

Hopson.

To the “Men of Faith”

Director of Worship and Music Arts Lois Moore, thanks all men who participated

in Sunday’s presentation of “Dry Bones”. It was a great success! It sounded and looked great. Thank-you to your leadership for allowing a portion of your

last five meetings for rehearsal. Thank-you to the tenors and basses from both

choirs for helping. A big thank-you to Dwayne Blair for his spirited accompaniment. There’s a saying among singers that you’re only as good as

your accompanist and we had a good one! Many of you had never done anything like this before. I echo Pastor Dave’s remarks that the “Spirit of

Pentecost” was in you! I’d like to invite each of you to join one of the choirs at Saint Peter. The First Service Choir sings parts and the Second Service Choir

sings in unison. Consider adding your “joyful noise” to one of the groups. Please see me for more information. I look forward to working with you again!

Lois Moore

TALENT SEARCH

The Outreach committee needs help. We know there are many

members of our church blessed with a God-given ability to play a musical instrument. We need your talent. Each Sunday

morning this July, members of Outreach will lead devotions at Ocean Trail Nursing Center in Southport. We gather from 9:30-10:00 to sing

hymns, read scripture, pray and talk with the residents. They love to sing their favorite hymns!

Giving one-half hour of your time will bring so much joy to these patients. If

you could share your talent and help us for one of these weeks, please call Noel Dusanenko at 910-363-4684. Thank you.

BOOK REVIEW O Jerusalem! By Larry Collins and Dominique Lapierre is

quite the read. I say that as the book is almost 600 pages long in tiny print. The authors intensively researched for five

years giving the reader a thorough history of the Jews, Arabs

and British in constructing and maintaining Jerusalem. Much of the book is made up of records from numerous people. A few months back,

I talked about Blood Brothers and the story of Palestinians and Israelis. This book is similar to an encyclopedia explaining the history of this area.

Copyrighted in 1972, some information is dated. This story was highly recommended, and I have to agree, you get a full history. My problem is I

could not finish the book - intense reading. By the time I got to pick it up to continue reading, I had to review the previous readings. If you have time to

commit to reading it daily in large chunks, it would mean more to you. Giannatasio’s rating: Content 9/10 (some information dated); Readability

(6/10).

All books that are reviewed are from our church library. If you have difficulty finding a particular-referenced book, let our church librarian, Audrey Pedersen,

or me know and we will find it for you.

BLOOD DRIVE RESULTS

The Red Cross Blood Drive was held on Monday, May 21. It was a huge

success. We collected 35 pints of blood, exceeding our goal of 25 by 10. That’s a record! I would like to thank the donors for an incredible response.

And, of course, a special thank you to my faithful partner, Brenda Jennings. I could not have done it without her. We even had a few “walk-ins,” who

stopped in to donate just because they saw the sign in our driveway! Thank you all for giving the Gift of Life. You are very special.

Please make a note that our Fall Blood Drive will be in October. Hope to see

you then.

Kathy Railo

VBS FORUM

Please join us for a VBS forum between services on Sunday, June 3. We will share our experiences, watch a short video and answer any questions you

have. See you there.

Spiritual Directors Insight

What exactly do spiritual directors do?

“…The Kingdom of God is within you.” Luke 17:21 NRSV

Thomas Merton Conjectures of a Guilty Bystander

At the center of our being is a point of nothingness that is untouched by sin and by illusion, a point of pure truth, a point or spark when belongs entirely to God, which is never at our disposal, from which God disposes our lives, which is inaccessible to the fantasies or the brutalities of our own will,,, it is like a pure diamond, blazing with the invisible light of heaven. It is in everybody, and if we could see it we would see those billions of points of light coming together in the face and blaze of a sun that would make all the darkness and cruelty of life vanish completely. Your spiritual directors at Saint Peter are here to be ‘The Friend of Your Soul’ to walk with you on your spiritual journey.
