From the Pastoral Associate
It has been difficult for me to sum up in words or image all that the past almost 10 years
has been like for me here at St Peter’s. Then, when I was cleaning out my desk this week I
uncovered some artwork that my children left for me one day, when they were still leaving
me pictures and notes. In this particular picture, in the center of the page in big bold letters:
ST PETER PARISH and around it in every color imaginable were hearts. Ahh . . . I thought,
this is pretty close to what I feel.
Because at the center is the parish, the community of people like in the art... in bold. It emcompasses for
me why I was called here in the first place. It represents those I have come to know who have been here for
generations and those who only blessed our space for a year or two while here for short periods. It is the many
people who serve in ministries, attend faith development opportunities, and who quietly offer welcome to the
neighbor next to them in the pews or the neighbors that are not within these walls. This center of the image is
filled with sacramental moments (both big S and small s moments). It is the baptisms I have been so
privileged to witness (it is no secret that this was my favorite part of my job); ministering in the Communion
line; and comforting one another at funerals. This bold center represents the liturgies we celebrate together and
how over the years we have come together to pray in thanksgiving, but also in sorrow over being part of a
world we struggle to understand. This center holds the people who walked into this space and felt welcomed
and also holds those who embody and embrace the welcome statement of our bulletin in all that they do here.
The symbols of the heart drawn around this bold center is the glue that holds it together. It is the love of
God and the love of one another that is here in this place. I have been privileged to be a recipient of that love
time and time again and I thank you.
I want to thank you all for teaching me how to be a better lay minister, a better Catholic, and a better
person. My family and I have felt welcomed from when we first arrived. I also want to say a special thank you
to this incredible, loving, and talented staff - both those here now and those that have been here through the
years. And a special thank you to Fr. Lenny. He is a wise, loving, incredibly patient, and supportive mentor. I
feel a comfort moving to my new role this summer knowing I learned from the best.
This isn’t goodbye for you will see me from time to time in the pews. But, from the bottom of my heart,
thank you.
Anna Molettieri
