NATIONAL VOCATION AWARENESS WEEK, November 5-11, 2017. Did you know in our country, compared to 50 years ago, there are 20,000 fewer priests and 130,000 fewer religious sisters? At the same time, the Catholic population has continued to grow steadily. Many factors have contributed to the decline: growing secularism, a lengthened period of adolescence, attitudes about celibacy, etc. During Vocation Awareness Week, please pray that young people in today’s society will hear and respond to God’s call. And do your part to encourage them to consider the priesthood and religious life.
FREE SUBSCRIPTION FORMED.org:• Go to Formed.org.• Enter our parish code NZ2PDB on the home page.• Create a personal account with your email and password.Start enjoying the best Catholic content all in one place!
We welcome the newest members of the Catholic Church:
• Bryson Roger Lee, son of Paul and Michelle Snyder.• Lydia Rose Merry, daughter of Robert and Regina Merry. They were baptized last Sunday, October 22. May they grow in their faith here in our parish family!
REQUIESCANT IN PACE! In the charity of your prayers, please remember the families and friends of:
• Vera M. Breckler, who died Wednesday, October 18. Vera is the grandmother of parishioner Maria Korson (Michael Sr.), and great-grandmother of Michael II, Bonnie and Helen Korson.• Marjorie E. Smith, who died Wednesday, October 25. Marjorie is the mother of parishioner Sharon Garner (Dan).
Their funeral Masses were celebrated this past week.
ALPHA COURSE: A program for all – “Catholic and non-Catholic” – for those seeking direction /purpose in life as well as for those seeking a deeper life, in other words, ALL of us! Join with fellow parishioners as we partner with St. Cecilia here at Sts. Simon & Jude for a continuation of this program, this Tuesday, October 31, “Why and How Should I Tell Others?” 6:30 p.m., complete with a complimentary dinner. *(N.B. All sessions will be at SSJ; This is a change from the original site as stated in previous bulletins.)
WORLD MISSION SUNDAY APPEAL: Thank you for your generous response to the Society for the Propagation of the Faith last weekend on World Mission Sunday. Our parish raised $2,159. Some people are called to go to serve in other countries to develop the Church and serve its people, but all of us can pray and support the Missions from right here in the parish.
ALL SAINTS DAY IS A HOLY DAY OF OBLIGATION: Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, November 1, 8:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m.
Book of Remembrance: During November, the Catholic Church remembers those who have died and especially those who have contributed to our own faith development. During the month, we will have the Book of Remembrance in the church, listing those who have died this past year. You are invited also to write in the book the names of your loved ones who have died. They will be remembered and prayed for by our faith community during November.
THE COMMEMORATION OF ALL THE FAITHFUL DEPARTED (ALL SOULS DAY) at our parish cemetery located at 500 West Jefferson-Kiousville Road in West Jefferson, Thursday, evening November 2, at 5:00 p.m. We will pray Evening Prayer from the Offi ce of the Dead. All are invited to attend. This is part of remembering the faithful departed of our families and community on their feast day. Please bring a lawn chair. (In the event of inclement weather, we will meet at the church at the same time.)
THE GOOD SAMARITAN FOOD PANTRY: We have begun our annual collection of donations for the Thanksgiving Dinner Basket project: instant mashed potatoes, stuffi ng mix, and gravy.
