Everyone’s Reading: HATCHET

Join Camp Read-a-Lot for a literary outdoor adventure this summer as we read Hatchet by Gary Paulsen. Campers of all ages are welcome to participate!

How it works: Starting June 16, you can stop by the Library to check out a copy of the book. We will have plenty on hand for everyone! Finish the book by July 10 and participate in the weekly Hatchet trivia for all ages during the following four weeks. Each time you answer the trivia question correctly you will be put in a drawing to win a hardcover copy of the book and a $20 gift certificate for REI. There will be a total of 3 winners, one from each age category.

About the Book: Thirteen-year-old Brian Robeson is on his way to visit his father when the single-engine plane in which he is flying crashes. Suddenly, Brian finds himself alone in the Canadian wilderness with nothing but a tattered Windbreaker and the hatchet his mother gave him as a present—and the dreadful secret that has been tearing him apart since his parent’s divorce. But now Brian has no time for anger, self-pity, or despair—it will take all his know-how and determination, and more courage than he knew he possessed, to survive. This award-winning contemporary classic is the survival story with which all others are compared—and a page-turning, heart-stopping adventure, recipient of the Newbery Honor Award.
