Sunday June 12 will go down as Salford Schools latest example of our school vision

Making a Difference. The Salford Rippa rugby team certainly did us proud at thetournament held in less than ideal weather conditions at Rugby Park. Expertly coached byMr Hanna and Mr Tucker this group of students demonstrated tenacity, fitness, skill, resilience and speed to take out the Southland Championship title. It was a day of highs, lows, adrenaline overload and amazement! We had suffered our first and only loss for theround robin to Limehills school and faced them in thefinal. Limehills were the clear favourite to win. However, they had underestimated the determination the team wasto

display, to win the final. It was a agreat game Salford won 7-5. Anoutstanding effort in gale force winds,

    driving hail and rain.

Thanks to all the parents and Salfordsupporters, for braving the freezingconditions to cheer our kids on to thefinal! The prize is an all expenses paidtrip to Auckland, for 10 children and twoChaperones, including a trip to KellyTarltons and Sky City. All travel, food, accommodation, and a strip to play inrepresenting a country competing in theWorld Cup are included. Our country will be drawn live on Small Blacks TV, then that is

the country we represent for the pool play games. The students involved will rememberthis experience for life! To view the photos and movie of the day please visit the website

The whole school swimming continues. We are desperate for a Dad to assist us in thechanging rooms, if you are available please phone the school. This week we had an ex-tremely disappointing 32 NON SWIMMING STUDENTS! If your child is too unwell toswim, they are too unwell to attend school. The lessons, pool hire and buses are free provided by theInvercargill Licensing Trust, all children in New Zealand must be able to confidently swim. We area country surrounded by water, our drowning statistics as a country are awful. If your child is notable to swim, please send a note to school clearly explaining the reason why. Non swimmingstudents are extremely difficult to manage as we all go to the pool, therefore they sit in the stands

and require supervision which is problematic. I expect a far better participation in swimminglessons next week.

Staff are frantically preparing the mid year portfolios, they are taking their allocated classroom re-lease days to assist with this busy time, hence the relieving teachers in the school. We lookforward to sharing your child's efforts with you.

Have a restful winter weekend. Marlene

    HEADLICEREMINDER

Pleaseregularly check your childs hair. We will send

children home, if head lice is found in their hair.Headlice are not new. Headlice and the eggs (nits) have been with usfor centuries. Egyptian mummies over 3000 years old have been foundwith the remains of headlice. It is only recently that the western worldhas been relatively free of headlice. No one to date has found asure-fire way of totally eradicating headlice in a community. There maybe 'miracle cures' offered but few live up to the claims.

Controlling headlice requires people in a communityas a whole to act.
