There have been some stories told about slavery in Ancient Egypt. For example many people believe that the Great Pyramids of Giza were built by slaves, however many other people believe that it was built by many skilled workers.

Slaves-

In Ancient Egypt slaves were usually prisoners captured at war. Slaves would be found working all day working for pharaohs and also working in temples and by the Nile river.

Whether they were slaves or servants they were always looked after by their master. If a slave never completed the job as told, they would be punished. They would either be beaten, tortured or cut.

Farmers-

During the early summer months the mountain region of Ethiopia experiences lots of heavy rain which increases the water level of the Nile to rise causing it to flood in Egypt between June and September. The Ancient Egyptians called this time inundation. The yearly inundation was a benefit for many Egyptians because it helped the crops grow faster in order to have food.

As soon as the flood began the farmers ploughed the soil ready for sowing. Seeds were then sown into the ploughed soil. Goats and many other animals then walked into the ploughed soil to push the seeds into the ground. The crops grown included wheat, barley, onions, leeks, garlic, lettuce and many other fruits and vegetables. Papyrus was used as paper, the papyrus reeds usually grew along the banks of the Nile. Papyrus was also used to make sandals and other necessitiesKatrina Zdrafkoski Tuesday, 9 April 2013 4:49:42 PM Australian Eastern Standard Time
