Samenvatting van het
IPCC AR6 rapport
en de watersnood in
Zuid-Limburg e.o.
Kleine waarschijnlijkheid & grote impact
› Snelste verandering in
zeker 200 jaar.
› .. en mogelijk 100.000 jr
› Ondubbelzinnige
oorzaak: de mens
Opwarming klimaat
Conclusionsfrom IPCC AR6 report:set 1
Unequivocal: human influence caused global warming
Widespread changes have occurred in atmosphere, biosphere, cryosphere and ocean
Scale of changes in climate unprecedented in 1000-s of years
Observed changes in heatwaves, heavy precipitation, droughts and cyclones can be attributed to humans
Best estimate of climate sensitivity (temperature change resulting from doubling of CO2 levels) is 2.5 – 4.0 oC
Global warming will exceed 1.5 – 2.0 oC level unless deepreductions in greenhouse gasses occur in coming decades.
› Waargenomen opwarming: 1,1 oC
› Bijdrage broeikasgassen: 1,5 oC
› Luchtvervuiling door uitstoot van
NOx, SO2, NH3, contrails: -0,4 oC
Oorzaak: CO2 uitstoot
Conclusionsfrom IPCC AR6 report:set 2
Frequency and intensity of all weather extremes, as well as reductions in ice and snow cover will increase.
Global warming will further intensify variability of monsoons and severity of wet and dry events.
Increasing CO2 emissions will make carbon sinks lesseffective – leaving more CO2 in the atmosphere.
Changes in the ocean, ice sheets and global sea level are irreversible for centuries to millennia.
Natural drivers and internal variability will modulatehuman-caused changes at the regional scale.
› Toename hittegolven, droogtes en extreme neerslag
› Figuur: toename bij 1, 1.5, 2 en 4oC opwarming tov oude klimaat
Toename extremen
Extreme warmte Extreme droogte Extreme neerslag
De zeespiegel stijgt. De mate en snelheid is onzeker en hangt sterk af van klimaatmitigatie en Antarctica

Technical Summary
Conclusionsfrom IPCC AR6 report: set 3
Every region will experience changes in the localclimate, and more strongly so at 2oC compared to 1,5oC.
Tipping points such as ice sheet collapse, abrupt oceancirculation changes, e.o. have a low likelihood, but cannot be ruled out and are part of the risk assessment.
Limiting human-induced global warming requires thelimitation of green house gas emissions to at least net zero. Reduction of CH4 emissions improves air quality.
Scenarios with very low or low GHG emissions will lead to discernible effects on GHG concentrations and globalsurface temperatures within 20 years and longer forother climate impact-drivers.

Kantelpunten
› Emissiescenario’s: meer CO2 meer opwarming
Parijs: opwarming <2oC
1,5oC limiet al in
10 jaar bereikt!

› Maas en Geul buiten hun oevers
Watersnood Limburg ‘21
Valkenburg, 16 juli ‘21
Eerste schatting schade ~ 1800 M€
Neerslagtrend
› Is de oorzaak klimaatverandering?› Onderzoek door WWA olv DWD› Alleen meteorologische effecten› Kans in huidige klimaat: 1 / 400 jaar› Vergelijking met klimaat uit 1900:
– Toename intensiteit 3-19% (model)– Kans is factor 1,2 – 9 toegenomen
