SAMSUNG AND K HOME INTERNATIONAL’S PARTNERSHIP WINS

MA’ADEN CASTHOUSE EPC CONTRACT

K Home International Ltd (KHI) and its partners Samsung Engineering Company Limited of

Seoul, South Korea have been awarded a major Contract in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The Contract is for the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) of a Casthouse for

the production of Aluminium Ingot, Slab and Billet.

The Casthouse is part of an Integrated Aluminium Production facility being developed on a

Greenfield site located at Ras Az Zawr in the Eastern Province for the Saudi Mining

Company Ma’aden and its Technology Partner Alcoa of America.

The Casthouse will process 738,000 tonnes of liquid metal per annum and will be one of the

largest in the world when completed in 2013.

KHI will produce the Basic Engineering Design and Samsung Engineering will complete the

Detailed Engineering Design, Procurement, Site Management and Construction works.

The Basic Engineering will be completed in KHI’s Thornaby office with the detailed design

being transferred and completed in Samsung offices in Seoul.

The Contract was secured against a number of other worldwide Engineering organisations

over a tendering period of six months.

The work will secure jobs within KHI for approximately 18 months with possible further works

in Saudi Arabia.

This project follows on from the successful completion of a similar casthouse facility in Qatar,

where KHI completed the full engineering and design in conjunction with an Italian EPC

Contractor.
