Thank God for Stephen Ministers!

We are blessed to have the Stephen Ministers in our diocese and especially in our parish. They are a group of trained ministers who walk with others who are experiencing difficulties in life. One of the areas that they are specialized in is walking with someone who is experiencing grief. Because of the make up of our parish population grief is, to say the least, a common experience. Recognizing this, our Stephen Ministers are willing to step up and walk with those who are dealing with grief in their lives. If you or someone you know is experiencing grief, especially the loss of a loved one, know that we have trained people in the parish to walk with you!

Our Stephen Ministers will be offering a series on grief and how to better address it, as well as a grief support group. Please check the bulletin for when this will be offered and let others know.

Grief is something we all go through at one time or another. I, myself, am in the process of grieving. My father was recently diagnosed with lung cancer, and it seems to be a pretty aggressive type. I will be leaving tomorrow to go home and see my father, maybe for the last time. Please pray for me and my family as we journey into the unknown together, that we will be able to find the blessings in the midst of darkness, and that through this time of loss, we will always remember the blessings of my father’s life.

In the Redeemer, Fr. Lamar , C.Ss.R.

MEET YOUR PASTORAL COUNCIL My wife, Deborah, and I moved to Saddlebrooke in 2010 from Southern California. We had been coming to Santa Catalina Parish for many years as we visited friends in SaddleBrooke.

After we joined the parish, we wanted to be involved, so we became Eucharistic Ministers. We eventually became lectors, and we also trained youth altar servers, a program we hope to start again.

I have been involved with the Pastoral Council for a long time. I am also a member of the Knights of Columbus, and I like to work in the kitchen for our pancake breakfasts. The Knights host this monthly parish event to help parishioners meet and get to know each other.

Outside the parish, my wife like ceramics, stained glass, and playing canasta. I am a volunteer at the Golden Goose Thrift Shop, and I have been there for 11 years. I also volunteer at Kid’s Closet, a SaddleBrooke Community Outreach program, helping underprivileged school children have what they need to attend school. Both these and the parish are very rewarding.

We also enjoy travelling to Southern California to visit our 3 children and 4 grandchildren.

LIVING ROSARY UPDATE The Living Rosary was a great success! Many gathered to pray together and eat together. Thank you to all the participants and to our sponsors for the beautiful flowers. A BIG thank you to Platinum Air Heating & Cooling for providing a delicious Lunch.

If you missed this rosary, make plans to join us next year!

Football Mania kicks off again, with ticket sales starting this weekend!

Football Mania is an exciting sweepstakes, this year based on College football with 18 prizes each week for 17 weeks. Last year we activated 250 tickets. There were 17 winners that claimed $1,550!

The tickets sales helped us to raise $3,000 which went to our various charities. Anyone can buy tickets to support this fundraiser and win prizes.

To buy tickets, visit the Knights table on the patio!

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR WEEKEND MASSES Parishioners are enjoying the PowerPoint presentation at each weekend Mass. However, there is a need for volunteers to advance slides during the Power Point Presentation during Mass. No PowerPoint experience is needed to run the presentation and training will be provided. The goal is to have at least two volunteers for each Mass to there can be a rotating schedule.

Several of the volunteers now helping with the PowerPoint Presentation have commented this has helped them to know the parts of the Mass and the Mass is much more meaningful to them. If you are interested or have questions, please contact Sophie at 825-9611, x105 or [email protected].

Lamar , C.Ss.R.

MASS INTENTIONS

One of the greatest acts of charity is to pray for the living and the dead and the most powerful prayer we have is the Mass. For this very reason, having a Mass offered, what the Church calls a Mass Intention, for loved ones who have died, for the living who have a special need or celebration, or in thanksgiving to God, the Church is able to intercede for us and apply special graces from God upon that individual, blessings, or thanksgiving.

To request a Mass Intention, contact Lupe at 520-825-9611 or [email protected].

Blessed are you, Lord God, Creator of body and mind and heart; you have sent the Spirit of wisdom and knowledge to guide your people in all their ways.

At the beginning of this school year we implore your mercy: bless all students, teachers, and staff, that together they may grow in faith, hope, and love as we learn from you and each other how to follow your Son Jesus.

Expand the horizons of our minds, that we may grow in wisdom, understanding, and knowledge; deepen our commitment to seek the truth of your ways; and enliven our faith to reach out to those in need.

Glory and praise to you, Lord God, in the Church and in Christ Jesus forever and ever.

Amen
