LISTEN TO JESUS AND THE PROPHETS
P rophets have always had a tough row to hoe. Their words,
of-ten unwelcome, are used against them to persecute and even kill
them. Such was the fate of the Old Tes-tament prophets, and
Jeremiah is a great example of this. Jesus endured opposition from
sinners, and did not turn back from a shameful death in order to
rise to a glorious new life. The ultimate prophet, Jesus sought to
warn the people of his time and ours of the divisions that his
words would cause,

look at our divisions and dilemmas in light of Jesus’ teachings and
warnings, and seek to under-stand all that he has proclaimed and

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION
I n recent weeks, we have reviewed how the Churches of East and
West have enriched one ano the r , and this past T h u r s d a y ’
s solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary was born
in the Eastern Church. It is a gift from the ancient Church of
Jerusalem, a commemoration of the death of Mary, and a feast
charged with a deep sense of the Resurrection. Mary, the first
disciple, is the first to share fully in Christ’s victory over
death. In the tradi-tion of the East, August 15 is the “Dormition
of the Theotokos,” or the “Falling Asleep of the God‑bear-er.”
There is no shadow of death or gloom in the the-ology, since this
is seen as a transformation of Mary’s life into a heavenly and
immortal existence. There is a sense in the tradition that she who
made earth heavenly and exalted the human race by her faithful-ness
is glorified today. A persistent legend among Orthodox Christians
tells how all the disciples, except Thomas, who was preaching in
India, were present at Mary’s death and burial, and sat by the tomb
for three days. On the third day, Thomas saw Mary’s body rising to
heaven. She greeted him as “my friend,” and he was escorted by
angels to proclaim her assumption to the others, who then realized
her tomb was empty. Thus Thomas, the one who expressed doubt at the
resurrection of Christ, received a gift from Mary: the chance to
pro-claim resurrection faith to the disciples. —James Field,

YOUTH/TEEN CHOIR SIGN-UPS
T he Youth/Teen Choir will be having sign-ups for the 2019 choir
season after the 8:00am, 10:00am, and 12:00pm Masses on Sunday Aug.
18th and Sunday Aug. 25th. Auditions for the choir will be held in
the School Music Room on Wednesday August 28th and Wednesday
Septem-ber 4th from 5:45-6:30pm. The Youth/Teen Choir sings at the
12:00pm Sunday Mass. All children 8-18 are invited to join. No
previous musical experience is required.

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS BREAKFAST
T he Knights of Columbus, Oxnard Council 750, will host a
Pancake Breakfast on August 18, 2019, 8am-11am. Council Hall, 632

RCIA & ADULT SACRAMENTS
I s God calling you or someone you know? We are now taking
applications for sessions starting mid-September. This program is
for those never Baptized as Christians, those Baptized in another
Christian faith tradition and now interested in the Catholic
tradition, those who are returning to the Catholic Church, and
those Baptized in the Catholic tradition whose total Sacrament
formation has never been completed. We offer an opportunity to come
together in a small groups to learn more about our faith. Sessions

ESCUCHA A JESÚS Y A LOS PROFETAS
L os profetas siempre han tenido un hueso muy duro que roer. Sus
palabras, a menudo poco deseadas ser escu-chadas, se usan en contra
de ellos para perseguirlos y aún para matarlos. Ese fue el destino
de muchos profetas del Antiguo Testa-mento, y Jeremías es uno de
esos grandes ejemplos. Jesús trato con pecadores y aceptó su muerte
y luego resucitó a una vida gloriosa. El último profeta, Jesús
buscó prevenir a las personas de su tiempo y del nuestro de las
divisiones que sus palabras causarían, mostrándose él mismo ser el
profeta de todo el tiem-po. Todos necesitamos ver a nuestras
divisiones y di-lemas a la luz de las enseñanzas y advertencias, y
buscar comprender todo lo que él proclamó y enseñó de las cosas que

TRADICIONES DE NUESTRA FE
E l otro día leí un artículo escrito por un pastor bautista
sobre la necesidad de tener un altar en casa pa-ra educar a
nues-tros hijos en la fe y la oración. Lo leí con interés ya que el
uso del altarcito tiene una larga his-toria en la Iglesia católica.
En casa de mis abuelos paternos, en México, había un bello
altarcito en for-ma de pirámide que contenía flores, velas y
figuras de Jesús, María y algunos santos. Además de esto estaban
también algunos instrumentos de oración co-mo el rosario, la Biblia
y algún otro libro de oración. También en casa de mi abuela
materna, en Texas, había un rinconcito sagrado. Muchos latinos
tenemos altarcitos familiares. Algunos son verdaderos altares como
el de mi abuela, mamá Lilia. Otros son rincones especiales como el
de mamá María, con alguna ima-gen y libro de oración y fotografías
de nuestros pa-rientes. A fin de cuentas no importa ni su tamaño ni
su forma. Importa su existencia y sobre todo su uso pa-ra
recordarnos de la presencia e importancia de Dios en nuestros

MISA DE LA REINA DE LOS ÁNGELES

LEGION DE MARIA ¿Qué hace la Legión de María? Evangelizamos,
visitamos a los enfermos y damos comunión a los confinados.
Promover la devoción al Santo Rosario, la Divina Misericordia, la
escápula marrón y la medalla milagrosa. El Praesidium en inglés se
reúne todos los lunes de 9 a 10:30 am en la sala A y B, en el salón

certificado de bautismo, foto reciente y tarifa de registro de $95

GRUPO DE ORACION
L os Invitamos a nuestra reunión de asamblea. Todos los jueves
en el auditorio de la escuela de Santa Clara, justo frente a la
parroquia. Tenemos alaban-za, oración, predicas, crecimiento
espiritual, compartimien-tos y eventos especiales. Vengan a
compartir con nosotros la misericordia de Dios. Si sientes un vacio
en tu vida, desespe-ración, problemas con la familia y no
encuentras el camino o simplemente sientes la necesidad de
acercarte a Dios, ven y caminemos juntos en comunidad al encuentro
de Dios. “Busca a Dios ahora que lo puedes encontrar…”. Nos uni-mos

CAPILLA DEL MINISTERIO DE JÓVENES
EDGE: Este programa es para cualquier persona en los grados 6-8.
El programa cuesta $20, y necesi-taremos una copia del certificado
de nacimiento del niño, una fotografía reciente y un registro de
bautis-mo y primera comunión (podemos prepararle para la primera
comunión a través de este programa si es necesario). Por favor pase
por la oficina principal para recoger una aplicación
CONFIRMACIÓN: Su hijo debe tener 14 años de edad y estar en la
escuela secundaria. Por favor traiga una copia del certificado de
nacimiento del estu-diante, un registro de los sacramentos
(bautismo y primera comunión) y la cuota de inscripción ($65 pa-ra
el primer año y $95 para el segundo año). Para obtener más
