Both the Democratic and Republican Conventions have come to a close. It was reassuring to see the presence of faith at each convention. An invocation and a benediction by a religious leader were given each night of both conventions. Fr. James Martin and Sr. Simone Campbell were invited to pray at the Democratic Convention; Cardinal Timothy Dolan was invited to pray at the Republican Convention. Sr. Dede Byrnes gave an inspiring speech at the Republican National Convention at which she declared that she was not simply “pro-life,” but that she was “pro-eternal life.” In a time where fewer and fewer Americans are identifying themselves as members of any faith tradition, it was important to see that religion is still being recognized as an important part of the fabric of life in the United States. St. Therese Parish will be hosting a special event on St. Padre Pio on the evening of Thursday, September 17. St. Padre Pio was an Italian Franciscan friar who lived from 1887 – 1968. During his lifetime, he experienced on his body a perpetual stigmata, the five wounds of Christ. He had the ability to prophesize and to read souls. Through his prayers, miraculous cures took place and continue to take place until this day. Dr. Pat Castle of Papillion, Nebraska, will be coming to St. Therese to give a talk entitled “Meeting St. Pio: Pray, Hope and Don’t Worry.” He will speak about the life and ministry of St. Padre Pio. Dr. Castle is the founder of the world’s largest Pro-Life Team, LIFE Runners. He has a Ph.D in nano-analytical chemistry and served extensively in the United States Air Force. He has been endorsed by several US Bishops, including Cardinal Dolan of New York City and Archbishop George Lucas of Omaha, Nebraska. More information about Dr. Castle can be found at www.liferunners.org/speaking This special evening will begin at 6:15PM on Thursday, September 17, in the Church with the recitation of the Divine Mercy Chaplet. Dr. Castle’s presentation will take place at 7PM. Because of Bishop Boyea’s decree limiting Masses and other worship events to 25% seating capacity, 85 participants will be allowed to attend this event. Feel free to invite your friends, but please arrive early! There will be no Mass on the evening of Thursday, September 17; instead, it has been moved to the morning of Thursday, September 17, at 8:30AM. The ALPHA Program has been an important part of the faith journey of many people. ALPHA will be held remotely at St. Gerard Church, beginning Wednesday, September 16. For more information, please contact St. Gerard Church at 323-2379. Religious Education Classes at St. Therese Parish will begin on Sunday, September 27. Parents are being surveyed to see if they would like their children to learn remotely or in-person. Both options are being offered at St. Therese. Now more than ever, our children need to learn the teachings of the Bible and of our Catholic Christian Faith. I truly hope to see all of our St. Therese children enrolled in one of our religious education options. This year’s Parish Feast Day will be a scaled-down affair due to the pandemic. The congregation will be blessed with the new relics of St. Louis and St. Zelie at each of the Masses on October 3 & 4. Bishop Boyea will celebrate the 10:30AM Mass on Sunday, October 4. Please support our Feast Day by supporting our Parish Raffle. Tickets may be placed in the collection baskets on the baptismal font, mailed to the parish office or brought to the parish office directly. Thank you for your support! Fr. John Fain

Our Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA)
RCIA Question of the Week: Let’s talk more about what it means to become/be a disciple of Jesus Christ – the “fruit” of the RCIA process.
RCIA Answer of the Week: Our Seekers and Catechumens can be leaven for us who are already baptized, challenging us to show them what “disciples” look like, say, do and don’t do. Below are some of their ideas of what characteristics a “disciple” must have:
Gives lavishly, sacrificially
Trusts God with abandonment
Hungers for more about God and Jesus Christ
Discerns God’s call
Shares faith with their children
Shares how the Good News has impacted their life
Takes risks for the Kingdom of God
Is joyful Do YOU believe?

Why do we offer Masses for specific intentions?
The custom of requesting a priest to offer a Mass for a specific intention, even
when one cannot be physically present at the Mass, is a longstanding tradition in
the Catholic Church.
This is because the Church considers the Mass as the greatest possible prayer of
intercession insofar as it is the perfect offering of Christ to the Father by making
present the paschal mystery of his death and resurrection.
ROME, 22 FEB. 2005 (ZENIT) Answered by Father Edward McNamara, professor of liturgy at the Regina Apostolorum Pontifical
University.
