DESCRIPTION OF THE CHAPTER:
The Saudi Arabian International Chemical Sciences
chapter (SAICSC) was founded in 1988. The chapter is a
dynamic organization which has excelled in the fostering
of chemical sciences within the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The society has grown and now having some of the best
minds in the world of chemical sciences as members, this
also allows for excellent networking opportunities. The
society is keen to promote discussion within this network
which in turn leads to greater accomplishments.

SAICSC-ACS BOARD OF DIRECTOR MEMBERS:
During 2014, every Board of Director member plays a
significant role in supporting the society to achieve its
goals through handling specific and measurable activities
related to organizing conferences, conducting monthly
dinner meetings, developing outreach program,
organizing trips for members and their families.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS:
MONTHLY TECHNICAL MEETINGS
The society has managed this year to bring corporate
members, renowned national and international experts
talking about different topics including the challenge of
producing more value chemicals, environmental issues,
new technologies, and success stories of research and
development in the upstream and downstream fields. This
has offered the society’s members a good opportunity to
interact with experts in different fields.
During 2014 seven technical meetings were arranged
with distinguished speakers from varying disciplines. An
average of 150 members attended each meeting.
January: Body and Soul Green Cities of the 21st Century.
Speaker: Dr Ibrahim Abdulhamid Aalem, founder of
Saudi Environmental Society.

INTERNATIONAL LABORATORY TECHNOLOGY
CONFERENCE & EXHIBITION-2014:
The Saudi Arabian International Chemical Sciences
Chapter of American Chemical Society (SAICSC-
ACS) successfully organized the 3rd International
Laboratory Technology Conference & Exhibition
(LabTech 2014) under the patronage of his
Excellency Shaikh Ahmed bin Mohammed Al
Khalifa, Minister of Finance and Minister in Charge
of Oil and Gas Affairs of the Kingdom of Bahrain.
This conference organized in the Kingdom of Bahrain
on October 28-30, 2014. The theme to LabTech 2014
is “Toward Excellence in Laboratory Management”.
The conference was a resounding success which was
well attended by luminaries from around the globe.
During the opening ceremony six VIPs from Saudi
Arabia, Kuwait, Oman, UAE, Bahrain and USA
delivered VIPs speeches on relevant subjects.
Participants from Europe, Far East, USA, Australia
and the GCC delivered 94 scientific presentations.
Overall 600 participants attended this meeting. It
allowed for new innovations to be showcased, whilst
provided a platform for scholarly discussion
regarding challenges face in the current world.

OUTREACH PRGRAM:
The SAICSC-ACS organized visit to the Saudi Aramco
R&DC for University of Dammam Females Students on
January 29, 2014. Visit was well-organized and an
excellent program was delivered to enhance the
chemistry science among the students. The students
had an exciting time where they enjoyed the
presentations, experiments and labs tour

Society organized visit to the SABIC STC-Jubail
(SABIC Technical Center) for King Fahd Petroleum
and Minerals graduate and undergraduate chemistry
students on March 2014. This trip help student to
understand the role of chemistry in the industries.

For the first time, SAICSC-ACS participated at the
Quality Assurance Innovation Forum and Exhibition
(QAIF-05) organized by SABIC at Al-Jubail
Intercontinental Hotel on April 1-3, 2014. QAIF-05
created an excellent opportunity to our society to
interact with number of chemical industries from
Jubail

KFUPM organizes Open Day for Orientation students
where all academic departments show case the
importance of majoring in those fields. This year the
Open Day was organized on April 29-30, 2014. The
Chemistry department organized its Open Day with the
cooperation of SAICSC-ACS.
The society has several channels of communication
with its members through issuing quarterly society
newsletter called “ORGANON” as part of our great
efforts to foster better understanding and escalating
the attention to chemistry science. During this year we
published three newsletters (ORGANON) which
covered recent events, new innovations and topical
discussions.

During this year, the SAICSC-ACS has issued a booklet
titled¨ Household Chemicals Hazards Awareness¨. It
focuses on awareness of the dangers of chemicals used
in our homes on a daily basis and reduces risks
associated with their utilization. This comes from the
society’s roles in contributing to the dissemination of
science to young students and enhances awareness.
This release represents the second issue in the
Scientific Publications series.

TRIPS PROGRAM:
SAICSC-ACS organized In Kingdom trip for the family
members of the society to Al-Hassa on Friday April 18,
2014. Two buses were arranged from Dhahran to Al-
Hassa to visit the Saudi Aramco” iThra knowledge
program 2014”. In this exhibition, various activities
such as 1001 inventions, beautiful names of Allah,
energy efficiency and generations oasis were presented
to the society members and their families.
In August 2014, the SAICSC-ACS organized a
wonderful out-of-Kingdom trip to Istanbul, Turkey for
members. The cost was subsidized by the society, more
than 70 members and their families were joined this
trip from August 8 to August 15, 2014.

RECONGNIATION & APPECATION LETTERS:
August 12, 2014, the Saudi International Chemical
Sciences Chapter of American Chemical Society
(SAICSC-ACS) received the 2013 Global Engagement
Award from the ACS. This award is recognition to the
chapter’s contribution to the local society to increase
public awareness by conducting technical meetings and
scientific conferences.

Several appreciation letters were received from
different industrial and academic sectors in particular
from King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals
and from ACS President, Dr. Thomas J. Barton as well
as from Sabic for the society efforts toward promoting
the advancement of the chemical sciences through
organizing conferences, technical exchange meetings
and outreach programs.

During 2014, the society sponsored all chemistry
related seminars at King Fahad University of
Petroleum and Mineral (KFUPM), open day activity
and other chemistry related events. This provided an
ideal opportunity for upcoming scientists to engage in
intellectual conversation with professionals from Saudi
Aramco. The society has been recognized for the
support to King Fahd University Chemistry
department.

SOCIETY WEBSITE:
SAICSC-ACS continued enhancing the society website
(www.saicsc-acs.com) to improve the communication
and collaboration between the society’s members and
Board of Directors. A new website content management
was developed to make sure that all contents up to
date. Also, the society arranged for the society’s 2015
election through the newly designed website
MEMBERSHIP PROGRAM:
The society achievements at local and international
levels have attracted more professionals to join the
society during 2014. Voluntarism was encouraged to
help the committee members during the registration for
the dinner meetings. For the first time, the society used
SMS for the announcement and registration for the
dinner meetings

DECEMBER: ANNUAL GATHERING MEETING
The 2014 SAICSC-ACS Annual Gathering was held
on December 29, 2014 at Le Meridian Hotel, Khobar.
The gathering attracted different executives from
Saudi Aramco and major local companies, SAICSC-
ACS board of directors, and society members.
The agenda of this gathering included a presentation
by the SAICSC-ACS chair Dr. Ibrahim Al-Zahrani
highlighted the main accomplishments and
achievements during the year 2014. Followed by a
recorded video tape for the ACS president ACS
President Prof. Tom Barton expressing his gratitude
for: 1) our chapter’s remarkable activities to raise the
profile of chemistry science in Saudi Arabia as well
as in the Gulf region, 2) the extraordinary efforts in
delivering a world-class scientific conference (3rd
International Conference and Exhibition on
Laboratory Technology (Labtech-2014)).
