Search Engine Optimization (SEO), when done properly, is actually a two part process: On-Page SEO, which is most effective when implemented during the website development; and Off-Page SEO, which begins after the website is completed. If you had your website developed by Solutions by Design, let out a big sigh of relief and pat yourself on the back, you’re already half way there.

Our SEO Basic Package is included with every website that Solutions By Design develops, meaning, the On-Page SEO has already been implemented into your website. This includes, but is not limited to, title tags, meta tags, internal linking, sitemaps, and keyword density checks. If that last sentence looked like Latin to you, it’s no problem, give us a call and we will go over each in further detail with you. To save time, let’s assume you already have On-Page SEO completed for your website. The next step to really guarantee that you will rank for the keywords which are relevant to your practice is to implement an Off-Page SEO solution.

The easiest way to understand Off-Page optimization is to think of it like a political campaign. As your practice’s “campaign manager”, part of our job is to go out and secure “votes” for you and your practice. How do we do this? Well, put simply, votes come in the form of links from another person’s website back to yours. We call these backlinks (clever hah?). Not just any backlink will do however. If someone links back to your site with the wrong text (anchor text) it is the equivalent of someone checking off the wrong name on the ballot. For example, if you are an orthodontist in Chicago, you probably want your practice to come up for “Chicago Orthodontist” “Chicago Orthodontics” or perhaps “Chicago Invisalign” and therefore you would want your “votes” to contain the same keywords. Having a backlink with the anchor text “click here” or “proceed” may not be hurting you but, on the flip side, they are definitely not helping you either (Unless your name is Dr. Proceed)!

Also, unlike most political campaigns, not all votes are considered to be equal in SEO. Votes from relevant, industry related, sites hold more value then votes from random or “spammy” sites. Unfortunately, some practices are working with SEO’s who use “shady campaign techniques” to acquire large amounts of “spammy” backlinks. Please understand, though these techniques may work in the short term, once the search engines discover the type of backlinks supporting their website, chances are good that they will be “removed from office”. At Solutions by Design, we don’t use these techniques because we know the repercussions and, more importantly, we know that slow and steady wins the race.
