RENAULT.CRÉATEUR D’AUTOMOBILES

Innovate. The constant determination which has transcended every period of Renault's existence, guiding our options and governing the

directions in which we have developed, is now helping to establish our reputation. At the dawn of this third millennium, our dedication to

innovation is not just central to our own concerns but also to those of the individual motorist who is now entitled to expect not only that a vehicle

will provide safety, performance and respect for the environment, but also intelligence.

Creation means bringing together intuition and expertise. At a time when performance and individualism were in fashion we were the first

to break with established thinking by imagining an MPV. To launch the audacious elegance of the Vel Satis and the innovative but winning lines

of the New Mégane, we again had to dare to be different. Innovation is born when an idea meets a need. We have a flair for picking up on your

wishes and visualising your expectations and this has enabled us to design vehicles that are a natural extension of living space (Espace), to invent

modularity (Scénic), the keyless car (Laguna) and the automatic parking brake (Vel Satis), exceeding your expectations at each stage.

It is by imagining what will be commonplace tomorrow that we have been able to realise the dream of the intelligent car, capable of helping

drivers to hold their course and of assisting them to do what is essential to keep them and their passengers safe. As a result, following crash

tests carried out by Euro NCAP (the independent European Consortium) the Laguna Hatchback, Mégane Hatch, Vel Satis, Espace, Scénic,

Mégane Coupé-Cabriolet and most recently Modus, have each achieved the maximum 5-Star rating and are the safest cars in their category.

Every day, our engineers think up and develop new systems for continually reducing the risk of accidents, such as a new generation of

programmed-restraint airbags or the Brake Assist system.

Competition - and Formula 1 in particular - is a valuable laboratory for innovation. It means we can design and develop the technological

excellence that characterises our engines and gearboxes, so that you can experience the pleasure of driving dCi direct Commonrail injection diesel

engines. We take all our environmental responsibilities very seriously - innovation today comes with a deep respect for the environment. Our engines

are now much more unobtrusive and their emissions have been considerably reduced. All our vehicles are designed with recycling in mind and

are on target to reach 95% recyclability. For further information on the End of Life Vehicle Directive and our progress against its targets please

visit our web site, www.renault.co.uk.

While being responsible in terms of safety and the environment, we remain attentive to your service needs. From the extensive coverage

of the Renault Network to the flexibility and speed of its assistance, by way of the personal finance packages, internet site or customer service,

we are opening the lines of communication in order to guarantee you support at all times.

And so that driving and being on board become more enjoyable with every bend, we will continue to create free of any constraints, because

it is by creating freely that we advance.

With Scénic and Grand Scénic you’re free to do exactly as you please.

The interior adapts to the needs of the moment. The front passenger seat, for instance, converts into a table or writing desk. While the three

individual folding rear seats are not only adjustable but recline to 35°; every passenger relaxes in made-to-measure comfort.

Need even more passenger space? Grand Scénic offers you two extra seats that, when not needed, fold individually and easily into the floor,

freeing up a big, completely flat load space.

Need to carry an awkward load? No problem: simply fold or remove one, two or all three rear seats to make room for it.

As for all the things that you need to take along – drinks, sunglasses, maps, books, games, cameras and the rest – Scénic and Grand Scénic are

ingeniously designed to allow you to tuck the lot away but keep it close to hand. There are under-floor lockers, drawers beneath the seats, a

huge sliding central storage area, which slides to make it accessible to everyone on board. And here’s a typically thoughtful touch – the cooled

glove box to keep your drinks and fruit at the perfect temperature.

Scénic and Grand Scénic are supremely versatile – but high performance engines, matched to sweet-changing gearboxes, mean that

they’re truly enjoyable to drive as well.

You’re offered, to begin with, a range of superlative multivalve petrol engines – 1.4 16V 98*, 1.6 VVT 115 and 2.0 VVT 136. And,

naturally, each delivers the instant response, ample torque at low engine speeds and smooth power delivery that are fundamental to

enjoyable driving. The Commonrail turbodiesel engines – the dCi 86 Euro IV*, dCi 106 6 speed Euro IV and the 1.9 dCi 130 Euro IV – offer

all the considerable benefits of the latest generation, high-precision Commonrail technology. And the low noise levels, miserly fuel consumption

and clean-burning characteristics of the Commonrail 1.5 dCi 80 hp and 100 hp units define the current state of the art in diesel engines.

And because they burn every drop of fuel so thoroughly and so efficiently, their emission and fuel consumption levels are both commendably

low.

The engines in Scénic have clearly been developed to please the enthusiastic and knowledgeable motorist. And the same can most

certainly be said of the new 6-speed manual gearbox now available with the 1.9 dCi 130 Euro IV, 2.0 VVT 136 and 2.0T VVT 165 engines. It is

beautifully engineered, with ratios carefully chosen to capitalise upon the engines’ power and torque characteristics: acceleration is eager,

power is delivered with wonderful fluidity, and yet fuel consumption is surprisingly modest. The satisfying precision with which this gearbox

operates and the feeling of involvement and control which this creates play an important part in the sheer pleasure of driving Scénic.

If the incomparable ease of use of an automatic tempts you, you could do no better than specify the sequential shift Proactive

gearbox. It uses advanced computer technology to ensure that the gearchange pattern matches your individual driving style and the kind

of road on which you are driving. It’s equipped with a sequential shift mode and you can over-ride the automatic system at any time. With

the Proactive automatic gearbox, you are completely in control – how many other automatics could claim as much?

WITH RENAULT,THE ENVIRONMENT COMES FIRST. ALWAYS.

Renault was the first car manufacturer to pursue a policy of combining a respect for the environment with improvements in vehicle performance.

Reduction of CO2 levels and noise emissions, 100% traceability of substances and materials, 95% vehicle recyclability at lowest cost, reduction

in the use of non-renewable resources and monitoring of the effect of factories on the natural environment – Renault has imposed its demands

and expertise at all stages of the environmental chain. With mould-breaking innovations such as direct injection Commonrail diesels and robotised

gearboxes, Renault has consistently demonstrated that care for the environment can be compatible with real technical progress.

Now that environmental issues are no longer considered to be constraints, a new logic governs the manufacture of Renault cars. From design

to the final manufacturing phase, each stage in the life of the vehicle is conceived in a way that optimises the relationship between the effectiveness

of a material and its recyclability, so that waste is continuously reduced. The implementation of procedures such as the collection of wrecked

cars, batteries or waste oil are less spectacular but still immensely important, and testify to the depth and comprehensiveness of Renault's

commitment.

Recycling is now a major challenge for sustainable development and is at the heart of Renault's environmental policy. Because the end of a

vehicle's life does not mean it disappears, Renault has made a deliberate effort to encourage the processing, assimilation and reclamation of

each part and each material, if necessary going back to the molecular level of its components. The aim is now to think of end-of-life vehicles as

a usable resource rather than waste. Although the “zero waste” car may be a challenging objective, Renault, as a leader in recycling, has made

it a realistic one. We take all our environmental responsibilities very seriously - innovation today comes with a deep respect for the environment.

BRO_JR84_GB 18/07/05 15:11 Page 16

Page 19: Scenic

Our engines are now much more unobtrusive and their emissions have been considerably reduced. All our vehicles are designed with recycling

in mind and are on target to reach 95% recyclability. For further information on the End of Life Vehicle Directive and our progress against its

targets please visit our web site, www.renault.co.uk.

To maintain the momentum of this process, Renault has created a new system called Life Cycle Management. This places environmental

protection on the same level as cost, quality and delivery. One result of this initiative is that Renault is now better able to determine the effect

of its factories on the environment and to find appropriate solutions: for instance, the use of gas as a fuel to reduce atmospheric emissions, or

the use of rain water to reduce water consumption. Ensuring that the system has a future does not mean just financing research. It also means

that the people involved in the process are held accountable and that the economic viability of the procedures is guaranteed. By taking on these

tasks, Renault has proved that it is possible to reduce pollution at the same time as increasing productivity.

Still playing the innovation card, Renault foresees a major role for electronics in the next stages of the green revolution, giving better control

of consumption and emissions. New materials and architectural concepts will mean that cars become lighter. Finally, the development of “parallel”

engines (LPG, electric, CNG (Compressed Natural Gas), hybrids (diesel/electric or LPG) or hydrogen (fuel cell) already provide proof of Renault's

continuing efforts towards becoming ever greener.

Managing energy better and finding new solutions every day so that the car – today more than ever the symbol of freedom and development

– justifies its legitimacy and its usefulness, and continues to move forward within a preserved natural environment.

BRO_JR84_GB 18/07/05 15:11 Page 19

Page 22: Scenic

Safety is the starting point of every car designed and built by Renault. Active factors – handling, braking and other characteristics which

allow the driver to avoid or manoeuvre their way out of danger - are considered both separately and in conjunction with the advanced passive

safety systems that constitute the most comprehensive ‘all-contingency’ safety systems in motoring today. The means by which this has been

achieved are incredibly sophisticated: they take into account the various situations you may find yourself in, your reaction to those situations,

your individual physique and, even, the possibility of human error. Renault’s approach to safety is based on the belief that prevention is better

than cure. But recognising that, as long as vehicles continue to be mobile, accidental impacts will never be totally eliminated, Renault

designers also continually seek to minimise their effects.

PREVENTION. On today’s Renault cars, numerous functions allow the driver to anticipate and prevent danger. For example: the doors lock

automatically when the vehicle is in motion to prevent unauthorised entry; a rain detector switches on the windscreen wipers automatically; a

light sensor switches on the car’s powerful (but less dazzling) double optic Xenon headlamps; a tyre pressure monitor warns of potential tyre

problems. Renault also helps to make the roads safer by providing road safety lessons for primary school children in 12 European countries: (visit

www.safetymatters.renault.co.uk for further information).

CORRECTION. Frequently, the ability to identify the danger allows you to evaluate the risks calmly and adapt your driving accordingly. In

abnormal situations calling for an extremely fast and precise reaction, technology actually enables today’s Renault cars to make the appropriate

correction automatically and immediately. For example, Brake Assist coupled with the action of the ABS anti-lock braking, ASR Traction Control

and CSV Understeer Control, all complement the ESP (Electronic Stability Programme) and PAX ‘run-flat’ tyre and wheel system.

Page 23: Scenic

PROTECTION. In the event of a crash, the vehicle structure becomes the critical element in the overall safety system. The occupants of a modern

Renault car sit within a central steel safety cell. This, necessarily, is extremely rigid; but that rigidity is carefully offset by the way in which special

elements within and around it deform, progressively and in a controlled way, to absorb the energy created by the impact.

The protection offered by Renault Protection Systems is literally tailor-made. The reaction of the elements within the system - inertia seatbelts,

load limiters, pre-tensioners, adaptive airbags and anti ‘submarining’ seat features – is adapted to the individual physique of the wearer, as well

as to the severity, or otherwise, of the impact. Thus the system is equally effective in minimising the risk of physical injury, regardless of the age or

physique of the wearer. Renault has also developed a range of seats that are compatible with the ISOFIX child seat system and are specially designed

for young children. Measures like these underline Renault’s absolute commitment to providing the highest possible standards of security for

everyone on board, not simply the driver and front passenger. The benefits of these advanced safety systems are very far from being theoretical:

witness the fact that the Renault Laguna, Mégane Hatch, Vel Satis, Espace, Scénic, Mégane Coupé-Cabriolet and most recently Modus have all been

awarded the maximum score of 5 stars in the independent Euro NCAP crash tests.

The ability to anticipate hazardous situations – and to neutralise them before a potential hazard becomes an actuality – is very much in line

with Renault’s belief that prevention is better than cure. For this reason, Renault is concentrating its research efforts in this area. Specifically, looking

at ways to prevent and correct human error – the principal factor in 90% of accidents - through new systems that are capable of predicting crashes.

Obstacle detection sensors with a magnified field of vision and ‘interactive’ safety systems are just two future possibilities.

Important: Your dealer will be glad to give you precise details about the safety equipment available on different models and versions.

ESP + UNDERSTEER CONTROL

BRO_JR84_GB 18/07/05 15:14 Page 21

Page 24: Scenic

When it comes to safety, Renault designers have two simple priorities: to give you and your passengers the best possible

protection in an accident. And to do all they can – in terms of braking efficiency, handling and roadholding – to help you avoid an

accident in the first place.

Thus, Scénic is equipped with the latest ABS system with EBD (Electronic Brake Distribution), coupled with Brake Assist. This

system actually registers the urgency with which the pedal has been pressed and, in an emergency, generates increased pressure

in the brake circuit. This optimises the full power of the 4 disc brakes to pull you up in the shortest possible distance.

If you hit a loose surface or find yourself driving into a bend too quickly, Scénic’s* ESP (Electronic Stability Program) brings

you back into line in a fraction of a second. The system’s Understeer Control function further assists in keeping you on course by

braking one or more wheels and reducing the engine torque. ASR Traction Control makes another contribution to your safe and

comfortable progress via increased control and the reduction of wheelspin.

The Scénic and Grand Scénic use the latest technology to make driving safer and easier. The powerful bi-Xenon headlights

switch on automatically when conditions demand it; the wipers are activated by a built-in rain sensor and automatically adjust

their speed to the rainfall; and a built-in monitoring system constantly checks tyre pressures and warns you of any problems.

ESP + UNDERSTEER CONTROL

Scénic and Grand Scénic provide optimum protection for everyone on board. Extra-high strength steel plus computer-designed ‘crumple

zones’ soak up the energy created by an impact to provide the strongest possible protection for the passenger compartment. Inside,

there’s the unique 3rd generation Renault System for Restraint and Protection (SRP3). This programmed restraint system includes adaptive

front airbags, front lateral airbags and curtain airbags. These are combined with adaptive seat belts with double pretensioners and load

limiters. All these safety measures are deployed, in milliseconds, to give you unrivalled protection in the event of an accident.

1.9 dCi 130 Euro IV FAP Commonrail

turbo diesel. Maximum torque

300 Nm at 2000 rpm. The ultra-precise

Commonrail injection system gives the

optimum fuel-air mixture at all times,

ensuring improved engine efficiency and

increased power. The variable-geometry

turbo gives an excellent top-end perfor-

mance, while delivering smooth, instant

response at low revs. Coupled to a

6-speed manual gearbox, it gives excep-

tional driving qualities, remarkably quiet

operation and very low fuel consumption.

dCi 106 6 speed Commonrail turbo

diesel. Maximum torque 240 Nm at

1900 rpm. The latest-generation

Commonrail technology is a guarantee

of optimum efficiency and, as a result,

smoothness, silence and, above all,

exceptional economy. Remarkably low

CO2 emissions make it a model of

environmental integration – with big tax

advantages too.

▲▲

2.0T VVT 165. This high-performance

engine develops 270 Nm of torque at

3250 rpm. Its increased power comes

from optimised turbocharging, and, in

particular, from a double-intake “Twin

Scroll” turbo. Team up all that with a

precise 6-speed manual gearbox and

a thoroughly enjoyable drive is assured.

1.6 VVT 115 petrol. Fitted with variable

inlet timing, it combines 115 hp with the

kind of torque and low end pulling power

not normally associated with petrol

engines. The enjoyment it offers on the

road is not compromised by its fuel

consumption, either – it delivers a very

creditable 39.2 mpg (combined cycle). ▲▲

1.4 16V 98 petrol. 127 Nm of torque

power at just 3750 rpm. Efficient per-

formance and low fuel consumption

makes this unit an exceptionally sensible

choice as well as an enjoyable one. ▲

5-speed manual gearbox: the dash

mounted lever falls exactly to hand with

a new design of cable-operated control

that ensures delightfully smooth and

accurate gear changes.

6-speed manual gearbox: allows the

full potential of the engines to be exploited

and, in particular, optimises acceleration

in the intermediate gears. The 6th gear

gives relaxed high speed cruising and

reduces fuel consumption.

Proactive 4-speed automatic gearbox:

the gearbox allows you to choose between

manual and automatic operation at any

time. In automatic mode, the gear

change pattern is automatically matched

to your own driving style and the type

of road on which you are travelling. With

the sequential shift facility, a simple

movement on the lever puts you back in

manual control of gear changing.

dCi 86 Commonrail turbo diesel.

Maximum torque 200 Nm at 2000 rpm.

This engine displays all the benefits of

the latest-generation Commonrail tech-

nology. Its efficiency is underlined by its

outstanding fuel economy - 55.4 mpg in

the combined cycle – and low CO2 emis-

sions of just 137g/km. It is a model of

environmental responsibility, yet it is also

quick, quiet and hugely enjoyable to drive.

2.0 VVT 136 petrol. The 191 Nm of

torque at 3750 rpm, and ample power

resulting from the variable inlet timing

and the 6-speed manual transmission

make this a high performance engine in

every sense – powerful, flexible and

truly refined.

The modern Renault performs more strongly, uses less fuel and is safer than ever before. Equally importantly, it isunprecedentedly durable and reliable – a fact which is reflected in the remarkable warranty package enjoyed by every Renault owner. Your new Renaultis covered by a 3-year warranty package - the first 2 years of unlimited mileage Renault manufacturer warranty followed by a further year of dealercover up to 60,000 miles. This requires full servicing history according to Renault UK approved standards. Your Renault requires servicing only at 18,000miles or 2 years* whichever occurs first. Paintwork is also guaranteed for 3 years while the anti corrosion warranty runs for 12 years**. In addition, the 3 years Renault Roadside Assistance plan ensures prompt help anytime in the UK and N Ireland should you be unlucky enough to experience amechanical or electrical fault en route.*Clio Renaultsport models, Espace IV 3.0 dCi & 3.5 V6 and Vel Satis 3.0 dCi & 3.5 V6 models require servicing at intervals of 12,000 miles or 2 years. Alternatively, you may careto consider taking out additional cover, called ‘Renault For You Non-Warranty Incident Cover’ for incidents of the kind described above.
