I WANT A CHIMPANZEE by Bonnie Lewis
Please! Please! I want a chimpanzee I don’t want a monkey they are just too cheeky! I don’t want a budgie what fun would that be? I don’t want a puppy with all its pedigree. Please! Please! I want a chimpanzee Oh what fun! Oh what glee! when she belongs to me! I don’t want a buzzing bee it will just sting me! I don’t want a goat called Billy that would be too silly! Please! Please! I want a chimpanzee I know that she won’t be free so I’ll save up my pocket money Together we’ll have high tea and drink milk and honey we’ll go on shopping sprees and spend my Dad’s money! Please! Please! I want a chimpanzee One, two, three! Give me a chimpanzee

MR GIRAFFE by Geoffrey Lapage
O Mister Giraffe, you make me laugh, You seem to be made all wrong; Your head is so high up there in the sky And your neck is so very long That your dinner and tea, it seems to me, Have such a long way to go, And I’m wondering how they manage to know The way to your tummy below.

RAIN

Pitter patter on the panes little kitten scampers the rains are coming crickets humming drizzly droplets dreary skies nature sings as kitten purrs dries her fur cosy curling lays beside a crackling fire warm and toasty happily away from the dire storm

Section 464 Verse Speaking Solo 11-12 years REMEMBER ME by Ray Mather Remember me? I am the boy who sought friendship; The boy you turned away. I the boy who asked you If I too might play. I the face at the window When your party was inside, I the lonely figure That walked away and cried. I the one who hung around A punchbag for your games. Someone you could kick and beat, Someone to call names. But how strange is the change After time has hurried by, Four years have passed since then Now I’m not so quick to cry. I’m bigger and I’m stronger, I’ve grown a foot in height, Suddenly I’M popular And YOU’RE left out the light. I could, if I wanted, Be so unkind to you. I would only have to say And the other boys would do. But the memory of my pain Holds back the revenge I’D planned And instead, I feel much stronger By offering you my hand.

SEAL by William Jay Smith See how he dives From the rocks with a zoom! See how he darts Through his watery room Past crabs and eels And green seaweed, Past fluffs of sandy Minnow feed! See how he swims With a swerve and a twist, A flip of the flipper, A flick of the wrist! Quicksilver-quick, Softer than spray, Down he plunges And sweeps away; Before you can think, Before you can utter Words like ‘Dill pickle’ Or ‘Apple Butter’, Back up he swims Past string-ray and shark, Out with a zoom, A whoop, a bark; Before you can say Whatever you wish, He plops at your side With a mouthful of fish!

JUNK by Libby Hathorn
We made this thing of jumbly junk Four legs, three arms, six eyes. And when we’d hammered forty nails It moved to our surprise. It walked about and creaked and clicked And even shook its head, But when it spoke with rusty voice “Goodbye” was all it said.

NEW BIKE By Libby Hathorn It’s not fair You won’t share! I just might If you don’t fight. Well, give me a go, I’ll go slow. OK. Take care From here to there. Whoosh. This goes fast, Watch me go past. Hey, watch the gate Oh no, too late! Don’t be slack And take it back. It’s not fair If you won’t share Your new bike! Tough!

Section 470 Scripture Reading Solo 9-10 years
PSALM 32: 6-11 6. Therefore let everyone who is godly pray to You while You may be found; surely when the might waters rise, they will not reach him. 7. You are my hiding place; You will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance. Selah 8. I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you and watch over you. 9. Do not be like the horse or the mule, which have no understanding but must be controlled by bit and bridle or they will not come to you. 10. Many are the woes of the wicked, but the Lord’s unfailing love surrounds the man who trusts in Him. 11. Rejoice in the Lord and be glad, you righteous; sing, all you who are upright in heart!
Section 471 Scripture Reading Solo 11-12 years
PSALM 84: 1-8
1. How lovely is Your dwelling place, O Lord Almighty! 2. My soul yearns, even faints, for the courts of the Lord; my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God. 3. Even the sparrow has found a home, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may have her young- a place near Your altar, O Lord Almighty, my King and my God. 4. Blessed are those who dwell in Your house; they are ever praising You. Selah 5. Blessed are those whose strength is in You, who have set their hearts on pilgrimage. 6. As they pass through the Valley of Baca, they make it a place of springs; the autumn rains also cover it with pools. 7. They go from strength to strength, till each appears before God in Zion. 8. Hear my prayer, O Lord God Almighty; listen to me, O God of Jacob. Selah

Tough!

WHAT IS BLACK by Mary O’Neill
Black is the night When there isn’t a star
And you can’t tell by looking Where you are.
Black is a pail of paving tar. Black is jet And things you’d like to forget. Black is a chimney Black is a cat, A leopard, a raven, A silk top hat. The sound of black is ‘Boom! Boom! Boom!’ Echoing in
An empty room. Black is kind-It covers up The shabby street, The broken cup. Black is the coal That drives a train The soot spots on The window pane. Black is a feeling Hard to explain Like suffering but Without the pain. Black is liquorice And patent leather shoes Black is the print In the news. Black is beauty In its deepest form, The darkest cloud In a thunderstorm. Think of what starlight And lamplight would lack Diamonds and fireflies If they couldn’t lean against Black……….

Section 512 Verse Speaking Choir Grade 2-3 WE TAUGHT THE CAT TO CLEAN MY ROOM
by Ken Nesbitt
We taught the cat to clean the room, to use a bucket, brush and broom, to dust the books and picture frames, and pick up all the toys and games. He puts the pants and shirts away, and makes the bed, and I should say it seems to me it’s only fair he puts away my underwear. In fact, we think he’s got it made. He’s not too happy with our trade. He may pick up our shoes and socks, but WE clean out his litterbox.

COUNTRY MORNING By Colin Thiele The high cry of night birds flying over in the darkness before dawn, dogs barking dim farmyards away, roosters crowing faintly on the thin air, leaves stirring, and at last a wash of dawnlight signalling the day. And then, suddenly, sunlight like golden bugles, trumpets on the hills, and the bright ring of the morning: dewy spangles as sharp as ice, wind-waves in the wheat, the land flowing in folds as if it, too, is billowing before the breeze; lamb’s bleat, crow’s caw, magpie’s carol down the steep air. And footsteps, voices, engines, all on time and according to rule….. Hurry up, Kylie, or you’ll be late for school.

Section 514 Verse Speaking Choir Grade 6 STUCK HERE FOREVER by Ian Souter 1st gear, 2nd gear, 3rd gear - NEVER, Are we to be stuck in this traffic jam FOREVER! With Cars slowing and traffic growing, Bumpers nudging, hardly budging. Stop - start, stop - start, NO OVERTAKING! Stop – start, stop – start, CONTINUAL BRAKING! 1st gear, 2nd gear, 3rd gear – NEVER, Are we to be stuck in this traffic jam FOREVER! With Babies crying and others sighing, Drivers glaring and horns blaring. HONK! HONK! HONK! PEEP! PEEP! PEEP! CARS, CARS, CARS like SHEEP, SHEEP, SHEEP! 1st gear, 2nd gear, 3rd gear – NEVER, Are we to be stuck in this traffic jam FOREVER! Engines turning and fumes burning, Petrol oxidizing and pollution rising. SMOKE! SMOKE! SMOKE! CHOKE! CHOKE! CHOKE! A solution to pollution would be a masterstroke. 1st hour, 2nd hour, 3rd hour’s gone. I’LL BE ANOTHER YEAR OLDER BEFORE WE MOVE ON!

Section 652 Verse Speaking Solo Grade 11-12 THE CORNFLAKE by Bruce Dawe When Greek women drop a piece of bread from the table On picking it up they kiss it. But what shall we do with the petty cornflake? It shares the tragedy of all small nameless unsacramentalised things -Absurd as dandruff or scabs Who shall plead for it? Its future Is written in its sweet anonymous present. It is mush in the act of becoming. It cries for its milk like its Mamma. It has no one to love it outside the commercial. It is so frail and insincere, drifting into gullets As the autumn leaves in a large city Make irresistibly for gratings – who cares what brief Balletic sprightliness it displayed rattling from waxed packets? There are no connoisseurs of the cornflake. Its lyricists (all save one) are in it for the money. There are none to sing its praises, to run appreciative finger-tips of
language over its beauties, as with its sister the snowflake. It is the victim of history – kings could have made it famous, Peasants in fokelore could have endowed it with a humble fame -Instead the cornflake is one with the commuter to whom Even the intelligentsia have forbidden nobility. Ah, but the revenge of the cornflake is memorable! Spooned Joyfully by wild infants on kitchen walls, it soon hardens To the durability of concrete. There, where the high-chair stood, it clings, Resisting the last hurried damp cloth, the sponge, the pot-scourer, Often outlasting, it is said, several successive families…..

SAMSON AT GAZA By Hugh Chesterman “Bring Samson in!” said someone in the crowd. “Old Samson, blind and bent?” And one fat priest of Dagon cried aloud, “Oh excellent!” Excellent sport to see a blind man baited? And suddenly the walls reverberated With cries of, “Samson!” “Samson to make sport!” “A happy thought.” They brought him in, old Samson, bent and blind! Plied him with goad and whip… Drove him with every insult tongue could find, To dance and skip. So blind, so broken, how could any tell That this was once a prince of Israel? But soon the shouting crowd grew tired And sought some other sport…. Then Samson lifted sightless eyes, and cried Frenzied with grief and pain…. “My strength, my ancient strength, Lord God above give me again!” Then laid upon the pillars twain his hands, No longer weak and nerveless, iron bands, That brought the rocking temple at one thrust
down to the dust.

PSALM 30: 1-12 1. I will exalt you, O Lord, for You lifted me out of the depths and did not let my enemies gloat over me. 2. O Lord my God, I called to You for help and You healed me. 3. O Lord, You brought me up from the grave; You spared me from going down into the pit. 4. Sing to the Lord, you saints of His;
praise His Holy Name. 5. For His anger lasts only a moment, but His favour lasts a lifetime;
weeping may remain for a night, but rejoicing comes in the morning.
6. When I felt secure, I said, “I will never be shaken.” 7. O Lord, when You favoured me, You made my mountain stand firm; but when You hid your face, I was dismayed. 8. To You, O Lord, I called; to the Lord I cried for mercy: 9. “What gain is there in my destruction, in my going down into the pit? Will the dust praise You? Will it proclaim Your faithfulness? 10. Hear O Lord, and be merciful to me; O Lord, be my help.” 11. You turned my wailing into dancing; You removed my sack-cloth and clothed me with joy, 12. that my heart may sing to You and
not be silent. O Lord my God, I will give You thanks forever.

PSALM 91: 1-8 and 12-16
1 He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
2 I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”
3 Surely He will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence.
4 He will cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you will find refuge; His faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
5 You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day,
6 nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday.
7 A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you.
8 You will only observe with your eyes and see the punishment of the wicked.
12 The angels will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.
13 You will tread upon the lion and the cobra; you will trample the great lion and the serpent.
14 “Because He loves me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my Name.
15 He will call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honour him.
16 With long life will I satisfy him and show him my salvation.”

PSALM 31: 3-10 and 19-24 3. Since You are my rock and my fortress, for the sake of Your Name lead and guide me. 4. Free me from the trap that is set for me, for You are my refuge. 5. Into Your hands I commit my spirit; redeem me, O Lord, the God of truth. 6. I hate those who cling to worthless idols; I trust in the Lord. 7. I will be glad and rejoice in Your love, for You saw my affliction and knew the anguish of my soul. 8. You have not handed me over to the enemy but have set my feet in a spacious place. 9. Be merciful to me, O Lord, for I am in distress; my eyes grow weak with sorrow, my soul and my body with grief. 10. My life is consumed by anguish and my years by groaning; my strength fails because of my affliction, and my bones grow weak. 19. How great is Your goodness,
which You have stored up for those who fear You, which You bestow in the sight of men on those who take refuge in You.
20. In the shelter of Your presence You hide them from the intrigues of men; in Your dwelling You keep them safe from accusing tongues. 21. Praise be to the Lord, for He showed His wonderful love to me when I was in a besieged city. 22. In my alarm I said, “I am cut off from Your sight!” Yet You heard my cry for mercy when I called to You for help. 23. Love the Lord, all His saints! The Lord preserves the faithful, but the proud He pays back in full. 24. Be strong and take heart, All you who hope in the Lord.
